View Full Version : x58 LE possible ram issue

Ok the issue lies here.
Stock speeds, just ram voltage and timing set, GPU's work great.
Any kind of OC, even just the dummy OC, my cards run at about 20%
In 3dmark 06 - first screen single gtx275, about 100FPS, with any kind of OC about 20FPS?
I am running Corsair DDR3 1333mhz ram, 9-9-9-24 1.5v
I know I know I need better ram for this nice i7 I have...
It will come, in the meantime, I can run Super Pi and CPU benches OC'd with no issues, 10.2 Super Pi 1M at 3.8GHZ
May not be the most stable, but this should not cause my 3D benchmarks to only output 20% unless the ram has that big of a factor, and does not want to run at 1333 or even slightly over. :Dizzy::Dizzy:
Evga x58 LE, ram above, i7 920, gtx275, corsair hx 1000
Any input will be great!

mark did you run the precision OSD to see if the cards were downclocking at all.
Also at stock speeds does it do it?

Speaking from personal experience don't ever skimp on the RAM. If there is one thing to spend a little more money on it is this in my opinion. I don't think RAM is the issue here though. Have you tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it? Sounds like the driver isn't behaving properly to me. I know when I push my cards to hard the driver stops responding and this sounds about what it does. Just taking a stab at it.

To answer all of the above, cards perform perfectly at stock speeds.
I have tested with both cards separately, to test for a card issue, or PSU issue.
If I run no CPU/RAM OC, I can push the cards until they quit and they perform like beasts.
I have flashed the mobo bios, which improved a couple things, I have cleared and reinstalled drivers.
Must also mention that this was on a fresh install of windows, newest mobo and GPU drivers.
The only questions I have is the Corsair HX1000 is rated at 13A input current.
If I am only running a 10A power cord, mine was missing from my brand new PSU, could this cause the PSU to drop power?
Gonna test in SLI to question the PSU as to this issue.

sounds like a config issue if its only when oc'd

I'm thinking it is def a config issue, or the fact that my ram does not want to run at the rated speeds.
I may contact Corsair and see what they have to say.
Unless the grand master punx can help me getting some settings locked down. ;)

Well I think I may have a PSU issue.
THe power cord leading to my PSU, which is rated at 10A the input power on the PSU is rated at 13A.
I just popped the second card in, after abotu 4 BSOD's trying to get into windows, most with the IRQ_less than or equal to error, I also got a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
Finally got in, enabled SLI, started 3D 06, 2 secs, then BSOD Nv disp, error.
GOnna stop at Radio Shack and pick up a properly rated PSU power cord, then test this whole theory again.
Meanwhile the PSU cord that runs to the wall (the one in question) was very warm to the touch, pretty sure the PSU was not able to get the power it needs, which could cause the GPU to be underpowered when I try and OC the CPU/RAM, causing a loss in performance, and with 2 cards in and NO CPU/RAM OC, while it would barely start, (hence leading me back to my power issue) when it did start it would barely run.
Will report back shortly. :good:

In all my wonderous wisdom and expertise that I lack which make me a Noob4Life, I would have to say that Corsair HX1000 should get a round of applause for not straight kicking the bucket while trying to operate without a proper umbilical cord and nutrients. :kneelsuckers:

Haha, yep after a trip to the local Tigerdirect I got the proper power cable after a hook up from my new tech buddy Carl! Once I get home and plug her in I will post back, hopefully from Krypto after a little 3d mark run!!
Ps for tech support call 1-800-411-punx :-)

EPIC FAIL!
SO I realized that I cannot utilize the bottom PCI-E slot with my case. The third slot on the x58 LE is x4
Plugged in the new power cord and everything seemed to be running great except my FPS were low, being the slots were reverting to x4
So I shut down, unplugged, moved the cards (now in the #1 & #2 slots)
Restarted, expected the drivers to pick them up, only one was moved, but NO!
Instead I get VGA mode, excessive lagging, turtle like movement in safe mode, and now that I think everything is back up the way it should be, everything shows up good in gpu-z, device manager, etc... no CPU/Ram OC. I start 3d 06 and get flashing pink colors, and extremely sub par performance.
How does all that happen when only switching slots on the GPU??

This is why I run ATI lol. (Not to sound like a fanboy or something, but this is exactly the kind of trouble I had running single cards with 8800 series).
Everyone loves nVidia driver's I had nothing but nightmares when I picked up a few 8800 cards a while back.
Run driver cleaner (sweeper on Vista or 7) and reinstall drivers.

I seldom use the newest drivers...seems I always fall back on tried and true older versions. Hope this is all worked out as I have a LE I am getting ready to install in my 24/7 pc. (probably use just one old 8800 GTS in it tho...)

Never fear!
Actually the manual does not really help much.
Settings in bios were way off for my ram...
After looking at some stuff online, I got all my settings good, the ram will only run up to about 1320MHZ for 2d benches, and the same for 3d benches.
Have a looksie at the first official results.
This is single card, one stick of ram and CPU at about 4.4ghz. :clapping:
Ram is important, especially since the memory controller is in the CPU!
Was able to get to 4.5ghz for super pi with no sweat at all, but my ram will not allow anything higher. ATM I am ok with that, because i was well aware that it would need replacing! ;)

Thanks bud!
Just glad I got her figured out, now to complete my project in the next few days and get back to work, hopefully I can resume work tomorrow.
Man this thing runs like a beast! Can't believe the improvements, it is really fast!
So far I am loving it, but also am understanding why so many people are having issues.
Just happy she is running like a champ..... for now.

WOW looking at the hwbot, that score would get me the 19th top spot overall, and that was without really trying, and my crappy ram.
Hmmm now I have something to prove!
