AMD has launched a new contest giving away a brand new 4 socket, 48 core motherboard + CPU setup to anyone who can convince them that they would use this system for the greater good.

Considering that those CPU's and Motherboard do not over clock :(

Plus the winner has to pay tax on it which could cost a fair amount like he said in the post :(
So the winner might be looking at $2,500 in taxes in order to recieve that beast.
It also is not a full complete system.

Okay I rephrase that.

I would dominate wPrime and then sell it :)

Yup, just like on the game shows that you see on TV, the bigger prizes they have to pay tax on those things when they recieve them.

It has to do with the cost of what ever the prize is, not sure of what the limit is.

Our govenment requires us to send the winner a 1099-B statement and the winner has to pay taxes. The threshold on this is usually ~$2500. Under that I could probably run a contest worldwide.

And your government is probably going to want to tax you as well.

Agreed on not being able to afford to win.

So you win the thing and decide to sell it, picture your paypal account with 8-10 grand going through it or what ever all that costs. You also have to report that as income come tax time because paypal will notify IRS of all this as they do with any big seller on ebay.
