Thanks guys all that made me see the real ugly truth underneath a sport that I take as a pleasant hobby. Funny thing is I used those same exact lines on some other results for a while and nobody felt bothered until I hit the big globals.

You all know how hard is to complete against 10-15 tray cherry picked cpu's, special edition psu's, golden vga card samples, etc. I don't need to say that out loud but I needed to make a statement on how proud I am of making it happen for the underdogs.

All that BS made me put my game face on and go after all the freaking 1st places I can take...

Benching a cherry ES you got for free is in NO way like benching a chip that you worked hard to pay for hoping to get a good one, no matter what the "elite chosen" want to say.

I see now that they desperately want to see themselves as competing on a level field with the rest of us, when they clearly are not.

I see both sides of the coin here and im not taking sides. Do try to see it from their perspective. Yes they get some free hardware, but also yes everyone dumps on them for it. Trust me all the guys in Pure spend tons of their own dough for their hardware. Even vince spends his own cash on some gear.

Does getting some free gear help? Sure, but they have put in years of work to get where they are. They didnt just get intel/company X to throw hardware at them by doing nothing. They all started out where all of us unsponsored people are now. They just got in earlier, and pushed it hard for a long time until they were noticed. And then people dump on them b/c they get some bits for free. Well they also do hella amount of testing beta bios etc for improved efficiency and working out bugs, which ALL of us get the benefits from.

Perhaps some of the responses were a bit caustic, but this is far from the first time people have raised the sponsored/ES/pre release/blah blah blah argument. Im sure theyre just tired of hearing it is all...:Hi:

Edit#2: 90% of the samples these guys get are duds/average also. Brian had to buy a whole slew of 5870 to finally get one that did great clocks. People see the great results and instantly think "golden vga" "handpicked from a tray of cpus" but in most cases that is NOT how it works.

I can see that side as well karma, just dot complain is the only thing. Some have it so good and they act like its such a chore. I think about some guys here like witchdoctor that cant afford the gear but try so damn hard to do the best they can with what they have never complain once and just roll with it. You got my support, even though I disagree with you about posting HW info :)

If no one posted HW info at the bot I would not know that a little mod on a Foxconn Bloodrage (~$200 shipped used) could compete with the much more expensive classifieds. (Will be testing this out myself soon enough : ))

I like Splave's comment "Retail Army FTW!" and think that sponsored HW, should include an asterisk at the bot.

Yup. The whole post was true, but I think this is the most important part of it.

Nothing in life is free. You work hard spend a lot of money to get your name respected enough to get the free stuff. (well not always, but usually)

I do not poop on the free stuff getting guys. But I can understand why some do. The important thing is that most of those guys share the knowledge they gained over processing large numbers of chips :) More important than any "review" they do give. (Let's face it most of them suck at reviews anyway ;) but are great at getting every last bit of performance out of them)

Karma, the problem is the elitist bastard attitudes that some portray. You know what, this really has me heated. The clowns are supposed to be the ambassadors of the sport. If perception is reality then this "sport" is for the birds if I was just learning about this. I am totally shocked by the response of some of these guys. Some not so much because they always portray their "better than thow" attitude. Ok, well one of them. God forbid, in any other sport, the manufacturers catch their sponsered athletes give this kind of attitude. They would either take a pay cut or a hike; most likely the latter.

Like Kal says, "Foster the Fever" That's what all these guys should be doing. Get as many people into the sport as possible. That requires a good attitude though.

Not a surprising thread, though. Certainly, there's some heat over there - but make sure you take note of the large number of guys at PURE that didn't hop in and flame.

I came to this game late and am personally spending a fortune on hardware - and killing it. It does feel extra good when you get your hands a gem (especially when it's $25 on ebay). But this sponsorship stuff goes through growing pains in every sport, and everyone always laments the good old days.

I remember it happening in surfing 20-25 years ago. Tom Curren was my idol then, and he quite appropriately left and became a hermit in France - very fitting. People were always complaining that the pro guys got flown around the world (just a few hours north of Supe every year....) to surf killer waves on free stuff. And the pros were always complaining that they had to surf meager slop and pretend it was fun just to get some points. Then Kelly Slater came along and real money started to roll in.....

Just wait until real money becomes involved in benching.

Personally, I'd love to get some binned chips and GPU's - but I got no interest in reviewing stuff. I'd rather surf slop on my own time.

(I gave up on p55 after wasting $900 on three crappy 670's with a 66% survival rate, but I might be willing to give it another go if Jor's buddy wants to unload another cherry ES for a measly $190 :hug:)

Many times we have to suck it up and just do the best we can with a substandard CPU rather than just grabbing a new one. I beleive they go throungh many hunks of crap, but it sure must be nice to be able to throw it over your shoulder and grab another one .... :thumbsup:
