Finally got my 762 set up, all plugged in and ready to test under SS with an air breathing card, but it won't boot past post code 68. Could be b8 but couldn't find a b8 in the book. The book says 68 is reserved which usually means something bad :scared:
Tried the old troubleshooting routines of 1 stick of ram, slot by slot - still no past 68.
Started disconnecting stuff like fans (which is about all I had on it cept the GPU, not past 68
Can't get to BIOS to adjust anything :morpheus:
Any thoughts?
PS.. could be a 6B would is enter auto configuration, but it looks like 68 and I can't get into setup (as stated above):argh::argh::argh:

68 or b8?
b8 is intel stock code for memory problem. I was having similar trouble on my E758 IIRC and the guys at EVGA forums said that if using ram with over sized heatsinks you should make sure that they are fully seated. (Push a little harder I guess?)
worked for me anyway.

Take it out and fire it up on air. I think we had 68 on it just yesterday when the 975 didnt like the cascade!

EVGA uses award bios as well so should work for you.

Well, I got Corsair DomGTs, which were working fine on the 759. They did seat a little tight, but they went all the way in till the clips closed... don't think you can get it much past there. Tried on in each slot individually, tried with all three ... no go past b8 or 68
Wonder if the BIOS in this new board is too old to recognize the Gulfy?? Guess I could swap out the CPU and see if that made any diff ...
dunno... too :Dizzy: right now
looks like b8 to me, but who knows with these little hex monitors lol
Thanks for all the quick feedback though guys :)
PS. Downloaded a new bios and burned it to a CD. Phase head still frozen to the CPU so it's gonna have to wait until tomorow. I'll put the 975 in the socket and see if I can get it to boot, if that works, all should be good... if not, back to the EGG she goes
I know that when I put my GT in my 760 without flashing a GT compatible bios I got the sam 68 code you're having issues with. I'd suspect that's the issue especially if it came from the egg and not Evga itself.

Thanks Duex
I've pretty much convinced myself that's what it was, THIS makes me feel much better :D
Once the tim will let me slip off the phase head I'll find out :)

I get 68 a lot. Sometimes it's memory, sometimes it's a coldboot loop. Coldboot one is annoying because when I get that loop I have to warm it back up to the -50's.
Good luck with the BIOS flash. That'll prolly work.

58 is also on the FTP btw. Faster download.

Boots up just fine with the 975 on air. Flashed BIOS 56 on it, which is the latest on the evga site. Once everythings running good with the GT I'll do 58.
COOL
:D
Thanks again to all :):)

it wasn't mentioned so i'll mention it ...the memory problem was sorta talked about in one forum i forget..but bad mounts or mounts that can flex a mobo has been the culprit...since you're on air...it eliminated the problem??? just letting you know.

Update
BIOS 56 installed, GT installed, kneaded rubber reinstalled, SS phase head installed.
We have ignition!!!! lol
Boots just fine now
Just didn't think they were still shipping product with such an old BIOS on it

I have been fighting the cascade as well today. Either I have a bad mount or the mobo cant take the cold. I have a proven CPU which can take cold. :Dizzy:

lol.. being on "'air" consisted of my old nactua 775 HSF sitting on the 975 with tim in between em, and my F1EE sitting on top of it to keep some pressure lol One Yate Loon fan too :D
Wansn't purty, but it worked:clapping:

If that's you in the avatar.. I'll be RIGHT over  If not, and you live close I'll come by sometime anyway :D
Actually no harder than mounting a water block, maybe easier than some HSFs too

Yeah I was just kidding. Just have been fighting this thing for a few hours now. It seemed to boot on air without any issues and when I put the cold to it it wont go. Well we have nothing but time I guess.
When I have mount problems, I have to walk away for 20 minutes or so and come back for success... Raging through hardware is getting expensive... :ohcrap:

Oops.. forgot you were having cascade issues... sorry  Blame it on your avatar ;)
Problems like you're describing are usually the result of improper insulation of the board and/or socket, or so I'm told ;) Using eraser to cover everything except the top of the proc? Armaflex on the evap head to keep air away from the head?
Using ceramique?
Could be too much tim too. I had that problem once on LN2 and the thickness of the tim prevented the cooling from transferring correctly.
Did you insulate the back of the board?
Not sure where you're at dude so don't mean to sound like an ass reciting the basics that you prolly already know  Get that girl in your avatar over to your house and I'll come over and help... with your umm... evap head lol
Good luck bro

He he! Geez lay off the Viagra! :D Tomorrow is day two so I'll take a look on the insulation etc. since btw: didn't change from the SS.

Its def a weird issue, I mounted the cascade myself twice while he was here lol so it wasnt a n00b mount issue, Boots fine at 25c -2c and soon as you hit around -30c wont boot. FF of doom which is CB issue. Maybe you already had the X-cool in the right spot and we moved off again?

that's my thought as well. -30 with the jumper in the left position will CB every time. If you look at the board straight on, it has to be on the right three pins.

Thanks for you help guys but like I said I tried in both positions and even got the manual (me noob) since I didn't remember my self how many times we really moved the jumper. Don't have really too much time to monkey with this in the next few days. All I know at this point that the proven working CPU shows FF as well no matter what I do. If I cant get it to go we will test the CPUs next time when I see master Splave on one of his boards to rule these out. :D
