Raptor Pit Forum Wars (Feb 2011)

Got an e-mail invite from Raymo for the next Forum Warz:

Hello fellow Overclocking forums and their members..
For those who haven't heard of Forum Wars, here's a quick rundown...
Forum Wars is a team overclocking competition. Teams from each forum will compete against other forums teams for prizes and bragging rights for the next year. Every forum can have as many 3 man teams as they wish. There are new classes and all PC's are handicapped into these classes based on CPU threads, VGA cores and cooling options (see the rules for handicapping). The winners from each class will be in a drawing for a nice case and 12 month sub to CPU magazine.. there will be many prizes to give away via random drawing for any player who posts an overclocked score (see prizes). We have many sponsors this year.. they are: NZXT, Crucial, CoolerMaster, Noctua, Thermaltake & CPU magazine.
The Player will need to purchase a copy of Futuremark Vantage ($6) to be able to get a full score, all the rest of the benchmarks used are free.. use of Vantage is not required, but the points will help your team and forum. Alot of people that have recently purchased VGA cards received a free copy with their product, Some may obtain a key from another forum member rather than buying the benchmark.
Your forum is officially invited to join the Forum Wars Competition beginning February 1st 2011.
All players must register prior to the stock posting deadline..

Yeah I did this a few years back with OCC. OCA can easily take the top in this one. Most of these guys are not benching stuff like we do here.

No there have different classes you can compete in. At least this is what it was last time I played. You can go to the Forum Wars website and read the current rules.

Yah, this looks like a really good idea for us. We've got air/water/phase/ln2 benchers at the ready and everybody has equal potential in contributing to a win.

There is alot of reading and understanding to do tho, gotta put the time into reading the rules/categories carefully to make a good showing.

Forum Wars begins in February 2011 with a new look and many sponsors donating some great hardware. We will also be using the new benchmark "Vantage". There will be a new handicapping system in place for the next war, so your system will be competitive in the class you run in..
All PC's entered will be givin a point value based on their componants..
All CPU threads will be added to the number of VGA cores along with your cooling options.. See below.
Air cooling = 0
Water cooling = 1
TEC & Chiller = 2
Phase & DICE = 3
Cascades & LN = 4
Examples:
(1) an i7 920 with 8 threads and a 4870X2 with 2 cores with Air cooling
This system is handicapped in this manner..
8 threads + 2 vga cores + (air) 0 = 10

(2) Q6600 (4 threads) and 2x 5870's (2 vga cores) using LN (4) is a 10

(3) Gulftown i7 980 (12 threads) and a 5870 (1 core) using H2O (1) is a 14

I competed in this with 411 in the past and it was alot of fun. The biggest thing I saw was organization. Getting scores submitted in time and then having the time to sort through the submissions to validate anything that is questioned.

So you know all the top hwbot forums around the globe have been invited to join.
competition will be stiff, it wont be the biggest, baddest rigs that win.
It'll be the overclocking ability of getting the most out of what you have
The reason is in the ALL NEW classes..
as mentioned earlier.. there is a new handicapping thing going on.
Also.. you can have as many 3 man teams in any class, as you wish.
meaning, you can have 3 "B class" teams
winning each class is great, But winning the overall is the ultimate acheivement
That would require winning or ranking high in each class.

We can start overclocking feb 1st.. so here's what we are doing at TRP
Get everybody in private forum feb 1st and perform all the benchs and post the results privately
The roster submission deadline is Feb 16th
This allows all forums to get there best players scores in each class prior to roster submission
granted... all scores must be properly verified or they wont be excepted when the war starts Feb 17th..

So.. 1st thing is to get a private spot created here
or if you wish I can create a private forum at TRP
If you do not have forum cop to verify your internal scores, then an outsider cop from a different forum will have to verify them for you.. or you can just pick your rosters and OC when the wars starts and post at TRP if you don't have a thread available..

Please go to TRP and do some reading.. there's some stratagy involved

All Systems must have a different CPU and a different VGA set up. (same model CPU will require side by side picture of both)
Standard HDD performance tuning (like RAID) on ATA, SATA, II, III are OK. No Virtual or Ram Drives, SSD's are OK.
Acceptable Operating Systems: Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, 2008, Vista & Windows 7 and all variants of each (32-bit/64-bit, home/pro/ultimate, etc.)
Acceptable Drivers: ALL Released Drivers (No modded or tweaked drivers)
Acceptable Hardware: All (except unreleased architecture that are not available retail 1 month prior to the start of FW)
NO UPGRADES after Prelim Deadline, (RMA's & Downgrades are OK, subject to validation by the judges).
Forum Police can deny any posted score if not properly submitted
The Forum Wars Judges will vote on All Questionable scores
The "Police Station" is where the forum police will post a poll and discuss scores and rule clarifications.
This forum will be password protected.

They mean you can use a 980X for team F or team A-E but you cant use the same chip for more than one team. IE not G and D and A. You must have 3 chips.

JUst a few days away..
on Feb 1st the wallpaper will be available for download (required for wprime)
You can overclock from day one but CANNOT post any overclocked scores until after the rosters are submitted @ TRP and the wars begins... until then ONLY stock scores can be submitted (not required though)
You may submit your scores at TRP if you don't have a forum wars cop to verify them
