Let's talk thermometers.

Anyone think this thermometer (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330479752832&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) would do what it says in the specs?

And aren't they all probe dependent anyways? Where do you get good probes?

I read that the extech ea10 probes were only good to -50. Any truth to that?

The thermometer itself may be ok, I buy my probes at Grainger. Are you going DICE or LN2? Temperature accuracy is more important with LN2 than DICE is why I ask.

This K or J type thermometer (8060) can accurately measure temperature with K or J Type thermocouples. 8060 has a wide range temperature measurement from -200 to 1300 °C (-328 to 2372 °F).

i think you're good with it.....its just a matter of quality... price is right..thats the same price for having uei serving warranty on their digital thermometers...

the set you linked i think has the k-type thermocouple..which is what we need for ln2...

spec wise it looks great ny. I use an extech, very accurate at least to where I've taken it (DICE range) around -70C.

I'm going to do LN2 first and on AMD chips, for awhile anyways. I'll check out the probes at Grainger, thanks.

LN2 is easy for me to get only 10 miles away.....for DICE I'd have to drive 35-40 miles one way........I think.

I would try and find one that has a bead end on it.

If you want high accuracy, look at the Fluke 80PK-1, a little over $30 each.

If you need a probe to get started, check the F/S section :D

I have a probe just like those on my block now, but the thermometer only goes to -50 C.

What is the actual temperature range on the Fluke probe 80PK-1.....the specs say only down to -40. That's why I'm still looking. I cannot find one that goes down past -40...what's up with that?

The spec is all they're "rated" for, but they all will go much farther than the spec sheet. Some will maintain accuracy, others will become more skewed the colder or hotter you get.
