My Av receiver bit the dust,
It was a 15 year old Onkyo TX-SV727
it served me well, Just hit the buy buttom on the Yamaha RX-A1000
I hope it is decent, came with a $ 300.00 Newegg gift card, Prolly never use it ....
6970 goodness FTW :clapping:
ANy insight on this receiver would be appreciated as I did not have time to really do the research as I can't live with out tunes and surround sound.

Looks like a monster f a reciever to me. IDK much about it. I do know that the new recievers are nt at all like the days of old. Hell it took me a week to figure out mine. They're all digital and you need to be a rocket scientist to figure them out as far as im concerned. I miss the old days of just turning knobs. Nice deal with the gift card. I'd find a use for that.

LOL
I picked up a refurbed onkyo for real cheap a while back... Had to send the thing back (on their dime) twice to get a fully working one, and its been going strong for over 6 years now :)
Unfortunately no HDMI passthrough.. my next receiver will definitely have that. Still rocking the HT Home theater speakers except for L/R audio. Running polk monitor 40s for that. Way more bass than the onkyo passive sub :)

Thanks gents,
Hope it works out. What does the pass through HDMI do for you ?
Had to buy a seperate i pod dock, WTF
you would think this day and age it would be built in ???

I have the same receiver, it's a beast. Running KEF's all around for speakers, the clarity and separation is impeccable.
Not sure why the docks are sold separate, but I'd never own an Apple product anyway so I'm cool with it :)
Passthrough HDMI just means it retains it's original encoding iirc so there isn't any down or upscaling.

Kool .........
Kinda went out on a limb, not knowing alot about modern AV unit's.
No tunes called for drastic measures so I did not have time to read up.
Glad I made a solid choice by luck.
What's up with the USB port ??? can I just load up MP3 or MP4 files on a stick and play them ???

just plug in a flash drive with WAV, MP3 or WMA audia files and you're good to go.

YEah thats what HDMI passthrough is.. I was retarded though and did not mean pass through just HDMI period. It is the video card I want to have passthrough :)

I have tried a couple pairs of "surround sound" headphones. They are ok. I finally bought a set of audio teknica's ADH-A700 "audiophile" cans and they are AMAZING!! I had always thought "surround" cans were better for gamers until I started reading a little on audiophile websites. The soundstage (directional sound) and clarity is just retarded. I'll never touch another set of "gaming" cans again!! From now on, audiophile phones is where I'll be shopping.
Here you go if you want to shell out some big money for audiophile cans made for gaming. They are crazy expensive though but come with a mic. The audio teknica's I have can be had for under $100 on amazon but you need to by a mic if you are into that kind of thing.
