My latest project. Remodeling a bathroom in a 1930's Sears kit house. This house is just built like you wouldn't believe. the walls are 1x3 studding. The floor joists are 1x5 and the ceiling rafters are 2x3. Its a good thing they are all 12" on center or the thing would have fallen down years ago. I had to beef up everything. I put Pressure treated 2x10's in under the floor to support the weight of all the tile work and restudded al the wallls so i could insulate. Unfortunaty all i could use on the walls were 2x4's because we didn't want to lose the space. But at least they are insulated from the cold now. The shower will be enclosed with 1/4in plate glass. And the nw cabints are going to be made of cherry. The home ownr has pictures of the old bath i will be getting from them to show. I have about 2 more weks before i am done. More pic whn i'm finished.

Nice work man,

Looks like it is turning out sweet .........

Dig the cobblestone floor in the shower, and getting out on that warm floor will be nice.

Mad skills my friend

Very nice work. I was wondering why it looked like you spackled the floor in the first post till I saw that was heated floors. (I did not seal the backboard on when I did 500 sq ft of indian slate tile at my aunts house. but I did not do heated floors either).

Great craftsmanship :)

thanks guys. The stuff i put over the heated floor is a self levling mortar made by Latticrete. it gives you a nice smooth and level surface to put your tile on. If i wasn't heating the floor i would hav just laid the tile on the backerboard with thinset.

Yeah I was talking about this picture

I never tiled a BR before, so maybe you are supposed to seal that too. For most floors you leave a gap

Your copy/paste didnt show what pic but, All joints should be sealed and taped with fiber tape and thinset. You should leave a gap yes but only so your thinset can make the joint complete. If you don't you run the risk of your joint expanding and you tiles will crack at the expansion joint. Not only that. durarock has tapered joints like sheetrock and it helps to kep the tiles even and flat if you fill the joints. Honestly it's all about personal experience in the field of building and remodeling. I've been in this business for 30 years. I've seen people do things differently the whole time. Everyone has their own method and they all have the same results. And, in the end all that matters is a satisfied customer. And that final check. lol

Sweet looking my friend. I'm actually doing the same exact thing this week and have been remodeling the rest of the house for the last few weeks. That's why I haven't been on so much lately. Tomorrow is backerboard installation some mudding and the heating floor also. Is this Suntouch floor heating in the pics?

Damn nice work. I love the pebbled shower floor. Might steal that idea for my own someday.

Thanks guys. Its been a nice job. Hit&Run its a Raychem (http://www.tycothermal.com/usa/english/floor_warming/electric_floor_warming.aspx) floor mat. I got it all wired in on Friday and when i got there yesterday i couldn't believe how nice it was. That was the first mat type heated floor i've done. Really makes me wish i did it on my own bathroom. I have a marble floor and dam it gets cold in the winter. Patch that shower floor stone is called River Rock in case you are ever looking for it. Its gonna be a bitch to grout. I'm not looking forward to it. lool

here are some new pictures of the bath. I'm still waiting on the plumber to finish. I'll never use this guy again. He's slow, lazy and expensive. Not a god way to be in this economy.

Moving on.

And since i'm showing off here....Some pics of a gun cabinet project i worked on. The home owner started collecting Black Powder guns from the civil war. He's been bidding on them at auctions. I managed to sneak a peak at one reciept and that gun cost 4k and some change. Each cabinet holds 16 guns. 7 on top and 3 in each drawer. For a total of 32 guns. He has one more coming. The colums on each cabinet are fluted and have some nice ribbon apliques going up them. Although its hard to see in the pic they are a really nice touch. The glass doors are 1/2in plate glass w/aluminum and wood frame. The cost of the doors alone was around 23k. There is led lighting around the inside of the cabinet that adds a nice touch. The inside of the cabinet was finished with fabric on a foam backing. And of course it has its own alarm system hard wired. The glass doors locks are keyed, while the drawer locks are activated by a keycard that you just waive over the top of the cabinet and the drawers unlock. Although i'm not 100% sure on the total cost, i estimate this cabinet costed around 65k. Add the guns and the total value of this display is around $190k. This wall was a bookcase before we started. We moved those bookcases to the upstairs hallway and the sitting room.

Plumbers like that always stink.. when I was a kid I was a plumbers apprentice for a while.. the guy was like that....

The cabinet is just plain sick.............................................. .....Thats crazy money for a damn cabinet and guns... crazy

Im surprised the guy didn't have little plaques instead of the tags...

GFDuke
02-25-2011, 01:48 AM
There are plaques on the bottom of the case under each gun. Those tags are the item id numbers from the auction. Money is no object with this guy. He has paintings on his wall that are worth more than my house.

Thanks Splaver. LOOL These are 2 different customers. But i did do 3 baths at the mansion of much better quality. The showers were all jetted with body sprays, handhelds and one had a Japanese Soaking tub. All finished in some insane marble.

Looks rather nice, not a personal fan of the gun cabinet, but certainly looks incredibly well done.

Looks beautiful man! Too bad that coming from Brazil you suck at 'DIY projects' because you always pay someone else to do it for cheap...
