Luckily I was able to snag a PS/2 keyboard and mouse from work. Finally got some cooperation with a PS/2 keyboard-USB mouse combo. I thought I had seen some OS installs from hell, but I swear I had Satan straddled on my shoulders on this one. I am not liking this set-up right now...feel like if I had gone with my original pick of a Gigabyte mb I would have been benching by now.

Anyway, I havent wrapped my head around this completely yet. Still have to flash these cards and check on a mb bios update. The Asus bios flash utility appears to be worthless so far. I'll keep pounding on it until I figure something out.

I am multi (and voltage) limited no matter what multi.

Cant boot over 1.525 or I get a CPU over voltage error. using offset instead of mnaul raises the limit but I still hit it sometimes as offset voltage is totally unpredictable.

+.2 voltage might be 1.475 or 1.6 depending on its mood.

Disable EPU in the BIOS and make sure the switch is off. If you are still getting that 16-33x in CPUZ, then set EPU to high performance.

Either in BIOS or with EVO. Even disabled you can still control it with software :S

Also.. UEFI always remembers the last settings unless you CMOS reset. Stupid design flaw. so you can set High performance.. restart, disable EPU and it should stick.

CPU core offset voltage will let you pass 1.525 volts without erroring, but again offset remembers your last voltage settings.. so if you were auto volting or manual volting at 1.4v already.. adding offset adds to that 1.4v. NOT stock VID.

Stupid stupid.

I do not have time to test cputweaker for yah right now buddy, maybe I can get back home tomorrow.

Yah know its funny, I was just thinking something similar... this SB stuff is based on the same shoddy arch that 980X was.

I mean great arch... but full of failure too for overclockers. How many died here? How many lost cores? I don't recall that on previous Intel chips and just never heard of it on AMD. I killed a Q6600 though and those were tanks :)

My first 920 ran 4.65 its entire life... second ran it and beyond and then became a desktop cruiser.. so hard to say if it was a tank... I could still pull 4.7Ghz when I needed to... so yes?

My first extreme OC boot on SB was 52X... first blue screen I got when pushing BCLK... 51X was new max multi...

(I only just realized it or I would have posted it sooner)

Every time I get up to 4.8GHz it seems everything gets unstable. Is there a setting that controls video somewhere like pci-e frequency? Somehow I think that is what is holding it up. Once over 4.7GHz during boot up the screen goes haywire...after that I can never get the OS to boot again.

VCCSA should help with PCIE flaking as the system agent handles PCIE/DMI/Power controller etc.

There is no separate PCIE control which is why the systems are BCLK limited.

Mysettings for 5.2GHz (everyones will be differnt and I seem to need more vcore than others) This is a little flaky.. same settings drop BCLK to 100 though and its very stable...

Ya'll are lucky. The pro micro is still on the initial release bios. :(

Also if I disable EIST on the micro i can't clock the mult past 34 in EUFI or windows. It takes away the option for turbo mode, turbo ratio, and by all cores. WTF? So I get into windows and my cpu is constantly down clocking!!!! Only work around I see is there is an adjustment for it to stay at max clock in bios from 1 to 32 seconds and I adjust it to 32 seconds. After 32 seconds it drops multi to 16.

Congos Rick, you finally managed 5G, :P. Is that the volt you require for 5G or you are just testing still and overvolting it??? Would be waiting for new Bios, if that doesnt improve the clocks, I am gonna dump 2600K and get back to x58 platform. Though it does seem like a good platform for hardware/video card grinders for boints.

Nice,

Clocking down ? turning off all the power savings crap does not help ?

That's strange because Asus has always been the easiest mobo for me to flash. :Dizzy:

Very nice though. At least your chip can do 53 multi. Maybe even more once you get the wrinkles ironed out.

awesome news there Ricks, so you havent got a dud of a CPU, :P, But its so frustrating to know that, whatever you do from this point onwards it wont improve your clocks other than maybe Bios update.

I am just starting fresh here so all is a mystery. These were the settings from the two bench's posted.

Wait a minute, wait a damn minute. Just went to power management in control panel, set it to high performance and wammo. Problem fixed. Max multi at all times with EIST enabled. Now I feel better in life. Was wondering how I was going to bench with cpu down clocking. Now just waiting on better cooling and I should be off to the races. :D

Yeah I have been saying that. Shit seems to do whatever it wants. I have EPU disabled still have to load up the software in windows and force it to High Performance :S

Glad you are finally pushing the 5+ GHz mark :)

Coolit ECO water cooler shows up today but new fans prolly not until Monday or Tuesday. Damn snail mail. Going to have to strip the whole computer back down just for install. Damn hurry up and wait game got me again! Was reading a post at some foreign forum of a guy with same batch as me. He was hitting 5.3ghz. Hope I'm that lucky at least. Can't wait to get this going to see if the micro atx can hang with the atx.

not sure if you'll have 3d01 err ..when displaying details..haven't tried 3d01 yet

5.3GHz is bootable but not stable enough to bench yet. I must start experimenting with these settings.

I'm just going to gloss over 3D benchs until I mod the cards. Hoping to be able to get Tai Server loaded for 2D and see what I can do with it this w-end.

Here is RealTemp 3.67 from UncleWebb. It is compatible with SB.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=4718998&postcount=4324

Is your CPU down clocking or just misreading in cpuz? If down clocking set your performance to high in the control panel.

Thanks Nip - It is kinda flakey displaying the frequency...of course speedstep is enabled because that is the only way overclocking options will show up in bios. This is a strange bird for sure and nothing works as it should in or out of bios.

I'm going to have to call kiki shortly to try to get this Tai Server installed...

Yeah ASUS screwed the pooch on UEFI I think.

On one hand... UEFI will be great once we get more tools that take advantage of it. On the other hand if everyone does not implement it now we won't get those usefool tools. *sigh.

Think I like just the standard BIOS

Been working with it so long it only takes a few seconds to set up

I guess I will get used to this though,

Just need to get XP installed on this POS

Without the use of CPUTweaker for SPI 32M I might as well be running a 3D bench. Maybe kiki will be able to help me with Tai Server this evening and I can dip into the 5's...

It truly is a pos...I'm afraid to make a game rig out of it for fear of losing all my data. It tears more shit up than it gains. I have to email myself each run to save the screenshot...the OS or hdd is liable to blow up without any warning.

With no luck getting past 5.3GHz with two different cpu's/mb's I think I shall forgo the rma and just put one of these in the gamer and call it done. Maybe later I can buy a known good chip from one of the members.

i been looking on the bot and why is there only like a VERY few people is putting there CPU under LN2?
wouldn't that help with the clocking?

Splave
02-09-2011, 10:39 AM
Alot of them dont respond to cold and are actually worse kiki, most on ln2 or phase etc are to try to lower voltage to keep the chip alive longer
