View Full Version : GPUs In Parralel or in Series (watercooling)

I have always plumbed my tri-sli's to be in series, same with SLI setups. According to Switech, plumbing them inparralel is supposed to result in less pressure drop with no loss of cooling. It seems counterintuitive to me.

Any thoughts?

is it maybe because they sell a special part to do this?

They have a new CPU cooler with 1 inlet and 3 outlets so you're supposed to run everything in paralel.

Main reason for asking is my 580 waterblcoks are Auqugrafix and they have the funky connectors. You can't really use 3 x 1 connectors very easily if at all, so I bought the connector for tri sli which is made for quad sli :D

It can be configured for either paralel or series but doing it in series like I prefer is a real PITA. Apparently parallet works, but :Dizzy: Guess it works along the same principal as heat pipes??

They are right,

Parallel is the best way to maintain volume and temprature.
I pipe my commercial water heaters and chillers this way.
You just have to remeber that the header has to have eaqual lengths and fittings to maintian an even flow through out the manifold, if not one end or the other could suffer.

Theiry is that all blocks are getting the same temp as the manifold as opposed to one then the second getting the first cards gain and the third recieving the first and second cards gain. This is absolutly manditory for chiller and domestic water heating and many times when not done properly it is disasterous

Example:

When at a hotel 6 the hot water for your shower is weird, real hot then cold then hot again
When done right hanging at the Hyatt Regency your shower is solid as a rock with this proceedure being executed properly

Parallel = WIN for a multi card set up

when you use a good pump, is better to use in parallel, so every vga get's the same cooling, in serie you will get more resistance in loop of all the vga blocks behind eachother, and temp will be different between then, even when it's small difference.

When you use a triple sli cooling bidge, it's in parallel.
A cpu block need some more flow then a vga block.

When you put vga's in series, the flow can be to slow for cpu block and in that way temp will be not so good on cpu.

I set it up in parallel and the second card ran 1 to 2 C warmer than the 1st and 3rd

not bad

With a better pump u may be able to get it on the money

I have an eheim 1260 that pumps 900 gal an hour. Problem is it has a 1inch intake and a 1/2 output  Never supposed to throttle down the intake

Besides, it wouldn't fit in my dual bay pump/resv combonations

My old ehime made a mockery of the so called top of the line PC water pumps

Never hurt you to reduce that intake bro ................

It will cut you back a bit on GPH but those babies pump water like there is no tommorow ..... lots of tubulence across the blocks = great heat disapation

a 1260 ??????

or the lesser made for aquariums?
Eheim explicitly says never restrict the intake - output only. Lord knows I never do anything without following rules :D

I had a big fat reducer on my intake and was still running strong after 2 years

maybe I'll give it a try.... maybe

I use it to mix my two 100gal D.I. tanks right now. :D

I kinda like the aproach Rick takes, drop that rad in a cooler of ice water and any pump looks good
