So my new kit showed up today (overnight shipping is amazing) and I pulled the Mushkin out to give it a try.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145240

First impressions are good, the heatsinks appear functional, the cooler is quiet and they worked right out of the box at rated timings+ speed too. With my voltage set down to around 1.55v these things seem to scream but up around 1.64v they just get stupid fast.

My first attempt's have been 1600-1680mhz 7-7-7-20 1T, 1800mhz 7-7-7-20 1T and 2000mhz 8-8-8-21 1T. I decided immediately that the XMP profile was worthless when I saw it set the ram to 2T, confirmed with Everest memory bench.

First post updated with wprime times.

Wprime times seems a lil on the slow side compared to chuchnits 3.8ghz run. Look at it over at the bot main page after you login, latest member submissions in the center of the page.

These are real world benches done after running everest benches, uploading pics and then I downloaded wprime + super pi and ran them all back to back after extracting them. All done in vista 64 vs xp as well as not being stable. 2000mhz is do-able with some tweaking I think for 24/7 use but I am taking it slow here, 6-6-6-18 1T 1600mhz is running memtest now at 1.6 vdimm 4.2ghz cpu speed.

WoW I like those kits also. Did you ever try the 2000mhz kits at all ?

I am torn now between Blades and Reapers.

I know my 1600 Dom's went just over 2000mhz and trying to get past that bump. Seems that many of these high end kits have a hard time going over 2000mhz ?

Too rich for my blood for an extra 100mhz that you won't be able to get 24/7 stable anyway. I'm testing now at 4ghz ~ 1935mhz 7-8-7-20 1T 1.6v :) It passes memtest #5 repeatededly .

hellcamino

A little more tweaking here, 2ghz ram just doesn't want to work with 4ghz uncore unfortunately but this was stable for 4ghz (21x multi) and very responsive generally but pi times were down significantly from my increasing standards.

Currently in testing: 4.3ghz~3.9ghz uncore~1640mhz ram 6-6-6-18 1T 1.6v. Linpack tested already and currently running prime.

If I was willing to turn ht off I would be all over this at about 4.4ghz.

Hellcamino, are you using the turbo feature?

hellcamino
06-18-2009, 11:53 PM
Hellcamino, are you using the turbo feature?

Yes! On this board it forces all cores to full multi (21x in my case) but not all utilities pick this information up correctly, memtest is being run at 4ghz actual in that pic.

Kal-EL

Yah I was wondering how it was effecting your total tdp and if it was causing a scale back during the benches. I think it goes 2 clock bins higher with the turbo during load (like 266mhz x2 ). I was thinking, how does this effect a benchmark like wprime32m if you reduce the amount of threads to allow for the turbo bump on the lesser amount of threads.

hellcamino
06-19-2009, 12:28 AM
Turbo enabled with C1AE will step up and down applying the higher multi to only one core at a time. Disabling C1AE on this board forces turbo on all cores or essentially just changes the multi to 21x from the otherwise default 20x. Throttling will only occur now if I hit the 100c limit.

Damnit hellcamino. Can you post a bigger pic!!! I can't make it oput. Or tell us what speed, latency and volts that its at. I think it says 1640MHz.

Supes can you do something about the picture sizing for me?

Damnit hellcamino. Can you post a bigger pic!!! I can't make it oput. Or tell us what speed, latency and volts that its at. I think it says 1640MHz.

I'm hoping for a fix from Supes on this one.

4.3ghz@1.24v under load~1640mhz mem speed 6-6-6-18 1T 1.6v

memory read~21001 write~16965 copy~24195 latency 39.7

I'm not writing out the cpu bandwidth.

Frank, try using the extension jpeg rather than jpg to see how it resizes. I'll have to play with the settings to see if it's a server side issue.

Normally, it doesn't fubarr the pics..........tbc

Could be PNG ext. Does that to me with that one. Also Frank, what OS did you run Everest in as it appears to me to be XP with those write speeds.

Here is a screen shot from the review I am working on. Looks like I might need to stop what I am doing and load Vista 64.

Back your cpu back down to 4.3 and try again, best spot for memory performance is 180 Bclk, then about 190 and last about 205. Anything higher seems to hurt memory performance but try 180 with a 2000mhz mem speed and 7-8-7-20 or lower timings.

DrNip
06-19-2009, 02:23 PM
Well what I'm talking about is I have a 4.3ghz bench with the RAM at the same speed with tighter timings and my write is waay less than yours. Prolly Windows 7 related as I know XP mollywopped Vista in Everest RAM bench. I am sure the same is happening with Vista and Windows 7.

There on my other hdd. Just installed Vista and going thru the update process. I also need to install XP on my other hdd as I need all three OS for this mobo. I have a feeling it is OS based but if not I will post up the 4.3ghz shot. Can't post up all my RAM shots or at least not yet. ;)

Well I gained some but still a lil ways away. Let me see those advanced timings if you don't mind. Also I think the difference might be mine is Elpida while yours is Hyper Elpida. :( I can get great timings on this RAM but if it is still slower than Hyper's that have looser timings I need to send it back home and get me a set of Hypers.

Nice latencies on those sticks!

I have not anyone ever post latencies in the 30s. (well except my own winnie setup that pulled 35s :) )

That schtuff must be snappy as your name :)

Haha, it can actually run tighter! I have had it down in the high 20's! This is the best ram I have ever used and is only picky about it's voltage. The sticks like 1.6v, give them that and within reason they will do as asked and run stable..

HAHA. I uped my timings to 6-6-18- 1T and I was still gettin around 18400 somethin write time. So I was like "I dunno". So I start to download Vista SP2 thinkin maybe that had somethin to do with it. While it was downloading it I ran Everest again just for shhht and giggles. To my amaze my write time went up 1300 to 19700 somethin!!! Go figure.

If you can run a 4.2ghz at 2000MHz w/ 7-8-7-20 1T timings. Use default sub timings as well. I have to run for awhile today but will be back as I need to come up with a conclusion on whether or not to send these back as I have another set I am lookin at.

Dude IMO I have a better kit of ram here than you are working with but not so much better that I would rma the ram you have. I actually wonder if you could come up with more than one in ten kits as good as I have. Look at our L1 -L2 - L3 cache bandwidth and latencies, they are very closely matched for latency and bandwidth.

EDIT: my bad, I was looking at my 4.3 vs your 4.4 and my 4.4 blows the doors off of yours in every way...your call on whether or not to send your stuff back or try tuning it a bit more.

The Bastard is being a shithead this morning and doesn't want to pull cas 7 2000mhz mem speed without tweaking so you get this quickie instead. Be advised that I am doing no tuning of any kind, setting speeds, booting and running everest bench, so there is more there if desired.

Well I have 30 days to drive these and am prolly goin to send them back. Yeah there nice but not nice enough. Got my eyes on the Blade cas 7's. People gave it shitty reviews at the egg but everywhere else they seem to be monsters. The reviews I have seen beat out the GT's in SuperPi. Just trying to stomach 400 smackers for some RAM again. Eh only about 150 more than what I paid for this. Here was mine at 7-7-7-20 1T:

DrNip

No tuning done there. All I did was set the volts, BCLK, RAM ratio as well as timings. Sub timings untouched. It might appear that I am tweaking the sub settings but I think that is because I use a mch strap of 1600.
