Lookin for anything and everything RV790 volt mod related. Be it a soft or hard get it posted if you don't mind. I prefer a soft mod as a simple bump in volts is prolly all I need but will take anything.

Just bought myself a DMM today, tonight going to be pencil modding my 4850. If it works well I will upgrade to a hard mod (assuming I can keep it cool enough in this heat :( )

This is all I could find about modding the 4890. (http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=3125181&postcount=2)

Few links there which is why I linked the post rather than the XS thread. (

Hope that helps (says 4870, but should work on the 4890???)

4890 works great with rivatuner+voltage factory but requires the patch.I think Neuromancer's link is the one containing the wright things

Yeah I couldn't get Rivatuner to work. I will have to check into this when I get my RAM back.

So much for the pencil mod. One card dead.

I'm going to be following this thread as I too am interested in a voltmod for the HD4890's.

Sorry you killed you card Neuromancer, can it be rma'd?

Well I decided to keep my cards as

1. I am tired of RMAing
2. There not really bad cards, just 1 is better than the other 2
3. Goin to make em work

As soon as I get some RAM I will be incorporatin some of the info in this thread.

I am contacting HIS about how much it would cost to repair it.

It is still under warranty, but I broke it.

Plus I no longer have original sink for it, so keeping my eye open for another Single Slot HIS 4850 cooler.

Pretty sure I toasted the memory on it. I was a little heavy with the pencil because, and could not understand the readings I was getting on my DMM

Man DrNip, just not the week for DAAMIT hardware apparently...

EDIT: You using the 9.6 drivers? Supposed to not OC as well, but performance improved... (from another thread I read elsewhere... )

What is exactly wrong with the card? Can you post some pics? Did you remove the mod and still no worky?

Well yes, Voltage Factory will work, but only up till about 1.4V if I'm not mistaken. You could flash to ASUS BIOS and use SmartDoctor to set the voltages as well. The easiest way is to do a hardmod of course, but I don't know where to get hold of one of those.

HR I am pretty sure I damaged the memory. Screen is curropt at post and when it gets to windows just turns off completely.

On a positive note, I am subscribing to this thread to learn what I can about the 4890. Will post any information I find elsewhere here as well.

Yeah there is a few things you can do to get the 4890 going fast. There is a BIOS for it as well which can make it run at 1250 under LN2 or DICE of course. Did you RMA the old card already?

No I sold the original Heatsink, so gotta get another one. Bidding on one on ebay right now. Once I swap that out, they will take a look at it and let me know the repair cost.

Hoping that they are as good a company as Jetway. (Bought a ITX board from a forum, the seller threw the 1U heatsink in on top of the mobo, so when I got it, half the caps were damaged. Jetway said send $10 and we will recap it. They returned the check with a fixed mobo :) )

I have 2 4890 that can run 1230Mhz @ dice. The problem is both bios and hardmod related. In a few days i hope to post the hardmod so all our problems will disappear...

Here is what I used to get my 3 cards up to 1000/1100. It has voltage adjustments, fan control and clock adjustments as well. Much easier than Rivatuner, plus it works right out of the box without modifications.

Yah 1000MHz seems a reasonable expectation, it actually surprised me how few 4890 posts there were at hwbot with not much higher core speeds.

Gunslinger

Most cards are bios limited around 1070Mhz on core. There is supposedly a bios coming to unlock this.

What was your max stable clock on your cards before you tweaked em gunslinger? One of mine is around 990 ish while the other two are only 940 ish. Also with that utility, do you have to make the changes everytime you boot windows or does it set them automatically everytime?

Well its not official yet but here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=228334) have a read. Same link as in post # 24.

Max clocks were around 950 on the core. The tool requires you to set the voltage after reboot.
