Air Benching Celerons

Motherboard:
Asus Commando

Bios Version:
0702

Build Date:
1/12/07

CPUs:
1. 05' 352 SL96P MALAY (5.16GHz) http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1494248
2. 05' 352 SL96P MALAY (5.27GHz) http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1494311
3. 06' 352 SL9KM CHINA (4.8GHz)
4. 06' 356 SL9KL CHINA (4.87GHz) http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1494360

BIOS Settings
CPUv: 1.45v
vDIMM: Auto
DRAM Frequency: Auto

First two chips easily overclocked over 5ghz. The second 2 chips wouldn't go past 4.9ghz all using the same settings except for one thing. The first two were running at 3:4 and the second two at 1:2. For some reason I cannot boot unless the DRAM Frequency is in auto.

Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Bios update maybe?

Thanks,
OCM

good stuff bro, you are safe up to 1.55v or so vcore on air I would say

The 3:4 and 1:2 thing is because you need to boot over a certain FSB for the divider to work right. What are the different chips your using?

Ok, ran chip #2 again with 1.5v set in bios and got 5.44GHz
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1494598

#2 seems like a good clocker so far.

Also ran chip #4 with 1.5v/1.55v/1.6v and got 5.0GHz
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1494602

I'm pretty sure its due to the 1:2 issue.

Seems like if I don't boot in with a 200 FSB or above I can't get the 3:4 divider. Chips #3 and #4 will not boot at 200 FSB no mater the voltage on air, maybe they'll do better under cold, for now #2 seems to be the best candidate for an LN2 run.

Yep, verified booting above 200 fsb gets me the 3:4 divider.

Did the vdroop pencil mod and it helped.

Vcore @ 1.55v set in bios got me 1.544v in CPUz.

Here is the latest run on Chip #2.

5.52GHz FTW

I really need to stop air benching and move on to DICE

OCM

Got bored today, no DICE or LN2 to bench with, so I went ahead and modded the board. Vdroop and Vcore mod with what VRs I could find at Radio Shack.

Not as purdy as some vmods I've seen but everything tested out just fine. Time to insulate ;)

just me or the nb on commando really hot?
like i got a heatsink on it and al but it's still really hot so i added another heatsnk on it and then insulated it lol
gonna dice it

but naw dose it run hot?

Just be careful OCM. After modding board do not run it on air. IIRC.

Ran it on air just to test the VRs. Only used 1.55v as max voltage to test both Vdroop and Vcore mod. All was fine, don't plan on shooting for higher overclock on air though. Vmod is strictly for the cold. Good call though!
