[Build Log w/LOTS Pix] Lighting Mod
Just got around taking a look at the SMD strips I've ordered few month ago. turned out they are 19in/strip connected by soldering on.
Trying to do some fun fun lighting mods on my main rig. Since there is going to be at least 4 and potentially installing more, and using all molex i cut off from other cables is gonna get really expensive (i looked up and they are like $1 ea from starting) and using 100 molex like i've been doing is getting out of hand. My idea/goal is building clear casing, using ONE molex plug, then having NINE JST RC Plug connectors. With a veritable resistor, to control how bright the thing is, and maybe having a switch, but i don't see much point to it. I have a 30 x 23 PCB board. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...face-02-02.png I was deciding between using the setup showing above using positive side 123456789 - 123456789 negative side Pros - all cables would be the same length, Cons - all cables would be very short OR positive side 123456789 - 123456789 negative side Pros - cables will be unevenly spread out, Cons - some cables such as 9 and 8 would be extra longer than 1 and 2 Also if i use 123456789 - 123456789 every connector can be evenly spaced as well, and 123456789 - 987654321 will either stack the connectors up or line them up The lines behind the numbers are getting everything linked Also the thing in the middle is a simple LED bubble so i know it's getting power WILL TAKE ADVICE AND ANY IDEAS, FEEL FREE TO TOSS SOME IDEAS AT ME :D |
Update, got everything hooked up, just waiting on the plugs now

other than the tiny video card and the hard drive everywhere, almost done.

hehehe, thanks bud!
still needs a bit work |
Nice setup for a case :)
I moved back to a case recently, and ended up doing the same thing, except with fans all over the place lol. I like the homegrown power kit too. Just FYI Look into a breadboard It is simpler and does not require soldering. they have been available for a long time, (at least since my first electronics kit in the late 70s) and will let you test out various configs before soldering. :) http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/produ...721764w345.jpg the slots "hold" a wire in place for testing purposes so you can test out various serial/parallel configs at your leisure EDIT: You will still need to tin your wires IIRC so not totally solder free, but easier than soldering desoldering :) EDIT EDIT: If not sure you want single length or multiple lengths, just use sockets, and use extensions where necessary. You can get them prebraided wire covering cheap, like a buck or two per cable. Not as cheap as making your own, but.. still cheap :) Think i paid 15 bucks for 6 from newegg at 3' length last time I needed them. Cheaper elsewhere but I needed them fast :) |
Not sure what your doing here but I have a bunch of PSU molex plugs if you can use them. Let me know, I love geek stuff!
I seen before that one guy on here modded his 580 cards so the cables were not there, I assume this is similar? |

Neur, i've used breadboard before, not sure why i didn't use it on this build...
I think i wanted to build it and see how that goes or something lol Phil i may take you up on that :D here is a better picture of it, it's ALMOST done. do wish i went with the cold white SMD instead of the warm white ones :/ too late now |
You must be working all the time now? JUCK! Four letter words!
