Question e6600 and asus maximus 2 formula oc help

Hi there, i recently obtained a m2f motherboard after a slow yet rewarding wait and upgrade from my KAK p5kpl-vm. Been very interested in overclocking and havnt really had a chance, exept with the old p3's and p4's. Ok well my setup is as, e6600, transcend jetram 2x2gb 800mhz cl5 timings, 2x148gb in raid 0, air cooled, standard intel cooler (hopefully watercooling in the next week) and a 700watt powersupply. Any help would be much appreciated.

Ty

Well until you get past the stock aircooler, I wouldn't do any serious overclocking. Maybe just a little fsb clocking to get used to the board. Your temps will be so much different and therefore your overclock too on aftermarket cooling. A few of us have the Rampage Extreme, and I think the bios is very similar in layout. We can probably help. Mean Machine has actually benched that board. Either way, what are your goals? 24/7 stable or suicide runs?

cool beans, planning on getting a gigabyte water cooling solution unless i find a better brand in the area :O it's kinda wierd tho, i have one of those perspex gigabyte display chasis with 5 fans, so air flow is going nicely, yet my core 1 and 2 are sitting around 25 drg c running at 2.8ghz, dont want go any higher just for precautions in the meantime. At the moment im looking for a 24/7 build, nothing monstrous. lol i have been hearing allot of commotion over the biostar tpower i45 lately at the office, might get one in, i think that will be the "suicide run" board untill i get money for a i7 system

I have heard that they are similar, dont they have the CPU level up option too? amongst a few other settings?

Thanks for the advice

mr_was, I wanna give you a little bump here. I haven't forgot about you, but I gotta alot to say and not enough time to do it right now. I will take the time to tend to this thread tomorrow. Hopefully in the meantime someone else will have something to say.

You could prolly swing a 35-42c idle temp on an overclock and not thermal shut down under load with that chip.
