I just use AVG free and never have or had any probs what so ever. If I were too, then I would restore my system image back to when I had a fresh install on my SSD. Ain't no way in hell I would pay for a virus protector.

Where I work now there are about 30 PCs. There are many different anti-virus/anti-malware programs installed. The company geek installs CA on any new PCs or laptops without any other protection (it must be cheap, as the subscription is good until 2015). I brought my own PC in and have Norton Internet Security 2010, so the geek left it alone. EVERY conputer there got infected by a variety of malware or viruses EXCEPT mine. To me, that says it all. From what I can tell the last controller there went to Facebook and U-Tube and a variety of other social sites, and he made sure he got the system infected before he was fired. The geek had to come in and clean out all the other PCs. CA, AVG, Malware-Bytes, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm, and some others I can't remember never caught the problems until they were already infected. They all found the infections after they were updated and a new full system scan was run. My PC blocked the numerous (about 40 or so) infections from getting to my PC from the company network. While discussing this with the company controller and the geek, they commented on how Norton has always been a system hog etc etc......I asked them how long it has been since they tried it and they said many years. Case closed. This really made the controller question the protection they have in place. Starting with NIS 2009, Norton really improved. NIS 2010 gets "pulse" updates as new threats are found on any system with it installed, so it keeps you protected from very new threats. I am sure 2011 version will be excellent also. One cpy installs on three PCs, so it's really pretty cheap. As Kal noted, if you watch where you go on the internet you are probably going to be OK (sleep with the dogs you get the fleas). All the old timers always say they hate Norton, but how come all the other anti-virus programs compare themselves to Norton? HMMMMM? I had NIS installed on every system I ever ran a benchmark on. I don't have any world records, but I did alright with a "system hog".

Thanks, I'll correct my post so I don't leave any misinformation. I knew they bought one of the anti-virus companies and someone told me it was Norton a while back.
