Default Intels new additional warranty plan for OCed CPUs

http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

MArketted as a good thnig, Intel is now going to charge for OC related death of their SB/SB-E CPUS

As if the 3 year warranty alone was not good enough now you can now actually use the unlocked multiplier and if it dies pay to have it replaced!

Why sell unlocked chips at all?

I have a couple views of this myself.

Its bad business to offer something that loses you money. (obviously) So when times are tough and your competitor is stealing the low cost show you need to make more money for what you are already selling so instead of raising chip prices even higher on the high end they offer this to make a couple more bucks.

Good Guy Splave see this as intel telling people to go ahead and try overclocking! Worst case scenario you get another chip for $30 instead of a $350 paper weight. (Unless you are sinner like me and RMA anyways.)

Realist Splave knows intel doesnt give a shit about overclocking being mainstream its lost them money for years. I foresee this as being then start of the end of a 3 year warranty changing to a 1 year and paying for longer.

Unless this policy is already in place, everyone should quickly RMA any questionable chips to get in front of the curve. I've got a 2600K I'd pay $25 bucks to have replaced - thing is, I never tortured this chip, it was just a dog.. so, who/how is the determination made?
