Default Determining CPU temperature

From what I gather you go by the temperature of the cooling unit on the cpu because the software is screwy when it gets sub-zero. If that is the case, then I can say my CPU is running close to -37 Celsius.....correct?

What I have said seems pretty obvious and I almost feel dumb asking, but hey I'm a greenbean here with the subzero computer world.

Thanks for reading.

Correct. Generally the probe is about as close to the base as you can get it. Actually I think ALL pots made nowadays come with the hole pre-drilled. Basically there will always be a delta between pot and CPU temps, but it is all relative in my book. Plus short of successfully drilling a hole in the IHS and placing a probe there is no accurate way to know real CPU temps. Just go off of the probe on the pot.

I will add that by saying the temperatures are relative, the delta and "real" CPU temps don't matter. As long as your CPU consistently CB's at -140c pot probe temp, do you really care what the "real" CPU temp is? I don't because as long as the mount is a good one it doesn't matter. It helps you absolutely zero to know that the CPU temp is -120c on the IHS if it also reads -140c every time on the pot probe.

That's a good way of looking at it. I totally agree.

My temp probe is touching the base of the block and the egde of the IHS, unless it moved, and reads -35 C right now which is colder than the coolant by ~8 C. My insulation seems to be working like a tiny freezer.

I don't have a hole drilled in my waterblock....or my F1EE for that matter. But anyways I'm pretty sure I got the probe where I wanted it.

Thanks Chuchnit

I had too much thermal grease and so the block temp was reading higher than it should have been(wasn't making good contact). I remounted it today with a nice small drop of grease, and the block temp is the same as the coolant now. I think more heat is being drawn out of the chip. I'll have to try 5GHz again later.
