Default AMD to launch 8 series chipsets in January 2010

AMD to launch 8 series chipsets in January 2010, say Taiwan makers

AMD is scheduled to launch its 8 series chipsets, RD890 to replace the RD790 (790FX) and RS880D, in January 2010, with EVT (engineering verification test) and DVT (design verification test) silicon scheduled for June and July and mass production to begin in November 2009, according to Taiwan-based motherboard makers.

The RD890 will be matched with AMD's quad-core AM3-based processors targeting the high-end market, and supporting DDR3 memory and HyperTransport 3.0, while the RS880D integrates a RV620 GPU to supports DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, the sources pointed out.

AMD also plans to announce the 785G chipset in September. The chip is currently under DVT and will enter mass production in August.

AMD will launch SB800 series southbridges to pair with 8 series chipsets. The SB850 has already entered EVT and will be ready for January next year, while the SB810 will enter EVT in July and will show up in May next year.

Currently, AMD is using the combination of 770 chipset and entry-level AM2+ CPUs to cover the entry-level market and is letting its 790FX chipset serve the high-end market.

They are.... and without Dice/LN2 you won't get far. I have tried everything to get mine just to 4Ghz, I made it to 3957Mhz but it wasn't stable at all... and anything over that won't boot at all.

Can't be as much of a pain as my 5200 was. Hours upon days upon weeks upon months for a 3.1ghz clock. Stock clock was 2.6ghz. What a waste of time. I plan on going with an AMD build but my priorities are:

Part Time Job - check
Classified - check
New RAM - check
F1 CPU Pot - soon to be check
Crossfire - waitin on new lineup
AMD Build - on done the line
