Hello folks...

New to OCA... just joined up yesterday thanks to Splave and Kal-EL.

Nik: PolRoger

Forums: Mostly on OCF, XS and a little on OCN.
I've noticed and seen some of you around and also that you were members here at OCA so I thought I would come over and check it out.

Name: Harland

Profession: Currently a stay at home dad with two small children. I did work in the paper industry for ~ 18 years until my plant was closed. When the kids are a little bigger I expect I'll go back to work but most likely not back to my old industry.

Hobbies: Computers/Overclocking, high quality air rifles (so I can shoot around the house) and I've also got a few firearms in the gunsafe. Custom Knives... kind of backed off of that interest when I stopped working due to their high cost. Cars... current ride is a G8 GXP/LS3/6sp stick. Champagne and different kinds of wines in general as well as good food although two years ago I changed my diet/exercise/lifestyle and gave up most of my drinking except for a few times a year.

Benchmarks: I'm not a big bencher at least not yet. I've been running mostly just air (sometimes water). I've been pondering the possibilites of going cold... maybe soon? I tend to do more 2D benchmarks than 3D. I don't have current g-card tech...as I'm still rolling with GTX280.

Recent Hardware: Mostly socket 1366 these days on open air test bench. I've got a couple of 920's and a W3540. I would love to test a 32nm 1366 chip but $$ cost is holding me back. I 've got a few different X58 motheboards to go along with the chips. I'm looking forward to the new tech...Sandy Bridge especially socket 2011 and Bulldozer. I haven't tried AMD for a while now so I'm quite interested in seeing it in retail form.

Splave 10-28-2010 07:05 AM

sup pol welcome aboard :) its only a matter of time before you go cold. I have slept 8 hours in the last 3 days due to limited time to bench something had to give so sleep had to go :D

We have quite a crew here, some really talented overclockers at your disposal and just a real positive place to discuss our love of teH computerz. Enjoy!

ocgmj 10-28-2010 07:06 AM

:welcome: and enjoy yourself!

Chuchnit 10-28-2010 07:09 AM

Hi, my name is Travis still. I still work at a prison, still fix sewing machines and still love computers.

MaadDaawg 10-28-2010 04:02 PM

Welcome aboard PolRoger. Stick around here and you'll be cold in no time at all. It really is the only way to bench, and you get hooked fast. Sounds like you got a good base to start with, but...

Wtf is AMD :Dizzy:

FACE 10-28-2010 04:19 PM

Welcome PolRoger... enjoy a nice asshat free environment. Feel free to post your escapades as often as you like... If you look at our handy sub-zero sections, you will find yourself sublimating away $$$ in no time.. :P

Nip.... didn't know you were into sewing machines... better not be banging my mom for free repairs, you bastage.. rofl.

DrNip 10-28-2010 04:40 PM

HAHA, bazinga! I need to open me up a PC / sewing machine / banging moms repair shop. I'm telling you there is money to be had there.

SalsaMan 11-01-2010 11:56 PM

Nick: SalsaMan, Sgt SalsaMan

Other forums: Mostly video game forums and engadget

Real Name: Bryce

Profession: Salsa Instructor, Bartender

Hobbies:
I've had a computer in my house since I was born... my pops was a big computer enthusiast so I grew up tinkering with Apples and Commodores and PC's. Gaming on the computer ever since I can remember. The majority of my computer tweaking has been to improve my performance on games ;).

Outside of the virtual/hardware world I live to travel and dance around the globe. Taught/performed Latin dance in the US and abroad for the past 8 years. Currently back in Honolulu doing a regular Salsa event in town and bartending a few nights a week.

Current HW:
Nothing recent, my gaming rig is in LA right now and I've since donated to my bro so I'm looking to build a new system with some top end parts.

Kal-El plays the same game I do online -Unreal Tournament 3- and turns out he lives in Hawaii as well. I figure I can browse around and look at some setups and get some good advice for my new system I'm building.

Aloha

OptyTrooper 12-02-2010 09:02 PM

I'm Opty. This is what I do:Duron 1.6 @ 2530/WP32 ~ 1M 3sec 297

Hondacity suggested I stop by and learn about SP32M which is not exactly my strong suit mostly b/c I simply don't bench it much. I prefer PCMark 05 and WPrime though I have been slowly improving my SP1m.

Thanks for having me.

Patch 12-02-2010 09:10 PM
