It Lives! Took a chance and put the 980X in the Classified and it booted...and lookie what she brung me!

Lan was out at the end of the runs so I re-booted to put at defaults so I could submit...she refused to boot again. This may have been her last hurrah but it sure made my day! :D

yay you did some subtimings! :) good work mate :good:

rickss69 09-07-2010 06:49 AM

Going to try to get it to boot again and re-run...just to make sure it wasnt a fluke or bugged.

looking at your results...you didn't set maxmem...920s can definitely play with the 980s...also your 448x isn't optimize....use a different multi...

That is because maxmem was not helping on that install.

New install last couple of days using XP and maxmem... it makes a differnce on XP, but still having trouble beating my FLP times. I am not home tonight, will give it more of a shot tomorrow night.

rickss69 09-07-2010 07:06 AM

No go on the boot yet. I will fool with it some more...been having the same problem last couple days with different mb's, memory and cpu's. Unsure if I am killing hardware or something else. Only thing I have not tried is a different psu.

Splave 09-07-2010 07:09 AM

what kinda ram volts you using?

1.74 - I have noticed it takes a lot more vcore/vtt for me to boot into XP than most others...could that be a sign of a psu losing it's mojo? I just find it odd that I am having the same problem with other mb's and chips as well. :Dizzy:

Hondacity 09-07-2010 07:17 AM

vcore? vtt? what is your 12v rail measurement? mine is steady @ 12.10 :D i love my psu....

anyways rams could be culprit these hypers are super sensitive...

also the removable heatsinks on the dominators....are ok..but the thermal pad they use is too thin...i had to use my own thermalpads so they have good contact....

rickss69 09-07-2010 07:20 AM

Same problems with different ram tho Honda. I have not taken any measurements on the psu...it is the same PC Power & Cooling 1200 I have had forever.

Hondacity 09-07-2010 07:26 AM

980x with 1.528v is too much for air/water .....instant degrade...

during bootup....psu isn't stressed much....with aircooling settings..

nice you have good sticks, thats not too much volts for ram :) if its doing the same thing with different chips and boards it must to be the chips or boards  psu and ram are the only possibilities really.

you are using to much vcore for the 980x though stay under 1.5v unless you start tossing icecubes in

I am so stupid! :argh: It has been the psu all along...plugged in the Antec and she took off like a rocket. Here is a follow up run to show the first wasnt a fluke.

Me so horny that 980X lives! :rofl

Hondacity 09-07-2010 07:48 AM

good thing i never bought that turbocool1200...fukcing expensive and ocz doesn't have money for rma'ing that..lol

i suggest antec hcp1200 :D

HITandRUN 09-07-2010 08:24 AM

Looks like Rick is rolling hot and it will take a 980X to beat his 980X in SPI. I think I might can squeeze some PiFast passt him (had a low 18.6ties) but no fucking way I can do better than his 980X. :Dizzy: Pretty sad! :ohcrap:

kikicoco1334 09-07-2010 08:32 AM

i been trying cut down the speed but nothing...
i just can't get this sub 1.40 on super pi 8m at all!

idk why even i lowered the timing it's still high?
would it just maybe the timing is too low?

Witchdoctor 09-07-2010 08:33 AM

Man I havn't even got my XP partition installed yet .....

kikicoco1334 09-07-2010 08:38 AM

Hondacity 09-07-2010 08:45 AM

2003 doesn't have sp3 enhancements i think....

rickss69 09-07-2010 08:50 AM

Keep getting errors now (not exactly square, ect)...isnt there some process where you delete some files to correct this?

Been running all this time at 1.74 - why all of a sudden does it need more? Relaxing all the sub-timings seems to make no difference...I even deleted/re-installed the bench to no avail.

Hondacity 09-07-2010 09:32 AM

delete the spi folder completely?

rickss69 09-07-2010 09:34 AM

Deleted everything and started fresh...I will have to pick this up later as it's time for me to go to work. Hit it hard folks! :good:

Splave 09-07-2010 09:51 AM

uncore too high? chip is degrading, memory is degrading try a different OS install? 1 mem stick at a time, try different chip. some things to try :)

HITandRUN 09-07-2010 10:25 AM

I have a another question here. I cant use my MemSet to change the mem timings. Its like locked or something. Any fix to that?

memset hasn't been updated for so long...try cpu tweaker...

Splave 09-07-2010 10:46 AM

memset is for chips that dont have IMC on die I think? :)
