I've found this sort of behavior to be centered around AVI suite settings. You might need to allow IE8 some permissions.

I don't suppose you tried hitting the compatibility icon did you? I would reinstall IE8 as it's more than just a browser, IE is the core of Windows but I can see where you might not like the the new browser. If that's the case than I would just install Firefox or Opera (my choice), Opera is by far my favorite but it does take a little getting used to.

Yep I tried compatibility too. Who knows? I got it from MS update. Maybe I'll try a manual install and see if it works this time. Other than certain hyperlinks not working, the browser was a noticable improvement from IE7.

im glad you found ie8 good, i just had a disaster with it breaking a bunch of softgrid applications at a organization i administer... had to roll back to ie7 and that was another disaster in itself :<
