I usually fix friends and family computers if they ask. The thing is i don't charge. Most of the time i get a gratuity from them. But i've gotten builds from alot of those people now that they know i do it cause i like to. Teaching online savy to the general public is harder than fixing the pc's. But once they learn, then their pc problems stop.

I used to be a System Admin(did MCSE & CCNA in 2001) and now I am a Sr. DBA, so I guess I know a few things about Networking, Servers and troubleshooting.

GeorgeStorm 03-17-2011 01:13 AM

I've looked into doing the CCNA, would you say it's worth it?

HybridChiller 03-17-2011 01:28 AM

I would say yes, though ultimately in Private organisations, its the knowledge which matters but then there are some organisations which put stress on Certifications as well.......

DrNip 03-17-2011 03:42 PM

I fix, repair and build computers anytime I can. Love it. Have several certifications which got me nowhere. Didn't really teach me much that I didn't already know. Guess I should have stuck with it and took it farther but got tired of throwing money at it after awhile. To be honest, the schooling was making me sick of computers. I know a thing or two about databases or at least I think so. Seems everyday I learn something new. I helped create and maintain 3 Access databases daily on 280 prisoners as well as I am over the pc's in the 3 Oklahoma branches for the company I work for. I also try to help out here when I have a chance. Less now than what I use too. One day I'll be back in the game head strong. That's all.
