It's funny you should mention it..I had the 2 300 raptors in raid 0 and had them split into Vista 64 and the Win7 RC program..The Vista would always beat the 7 when i was benching the 4870x2 Top...After the final win 7 came out I loaded the complete raid with the 7 Ult 64...In vista you could set for center timings when benching..With 7 it is a pain..You have to lower the reso. before it will let you enable gpu scaling...I think 7 doesn't recognize my 30 inch Dell. I wonder why Vista did and 7 doesn't??? I loaded the drivers for the monitor...Not sure why I have this problem...

Neuromancer 11-29-2009 05:53 AM

What is center timings and GPU scaling?

In the ATI CCC you can go to display and tick enable GPU scaling and then center timing...It makes the screen the size of the 3D test you are running..Basicly it will help your score if you have a big monitor..Vista and XP would let you just go there and tick it...With 7, if you go there you can't tick it until you go to property's and bring your resolution down to like 1280 1024 and then go back and can tick gpu scaling...

It is like 7 doesn't recognize the monitor which is weird....

Using gpu scaling and the center timing in CCC will increase your score... If you have a large monitor it is a must..

Neuromancer 11-29-2009 08:21 AM

Sweet, I had wondered about that, never tried it though... thanks!

Try it..I have a 30 inch monitor..2560 x 1600ish reso..running any of the Futuremark test would fill the screen and slow the score. Any monitor over 1280x1000ish would be more than you needed to run any Futuremark test..The center timing will increase your score...I just don't understand why it is harder in win7 than the others..:Dizzy:

69_Goat 11-29-2009 08:30 AM

I looked in CCC, but I don't see those options.
Does it only show for certain monitors?

lakeside2189 11-29-2009 08:43 AM

If you are using the new CCC 9.7 thru 9.11

open the CCC
tick the graphics at the top and drop the menu
tick desktop and display
at the bottom you will see a small monitor with a black arrow pointing down, tick that
then tick the configure box.

This will have your options to enable GPU scaling. for everyday use you would want to keep the scale image to full panel size.
for benching you would want to tick center timings...

with Vista and XP I could tick these at anytime...with 7 they are there but untickable..I have to go to properties first..lower the resolution to 1280x1024 and then go back and can tick what I want...Not sure why....
This will increase your score or atleast it did mine...

69_Goat 11-29-2009 08:51 AM

OK, got it now.
Thanks, LS.

lakeside2189 11-29-2009 09:08 AM

Just a note..after you make your run the center timing could be to small for you to set everything for print screen and paint..If so, open CCC and go to properties and set back your full resolution...Then do your print and paint thing...

My score increases by hundreds using this....:clapping:

If you want to see some wild clocks on 5870's, go over to kingpincooling forums
and check out the Vantage contest they were running.

lakeside2189 11-29-2009 02:02 PM

I watch what Gunny is doing most of the time...Those guys are in a league of there own...
Ran the 3D06 run at 1015/1327...The afterburnner program allows for much higher clocks..Can't see myself catching Kal on 06 but this beats all my stock 4870x2 single card runs except the Top which is in a league of it's own...This should do it for me until i get more or different cards....

Man I wish I could have picked up a set of those XFX's the other night as these look to be a blast. I would have even dusted off the F1EE to run with them.

Had to change a few settings to get Aquamark to run in win7..I need to get the CPU speed up some but still my best run....

Wow. That's with one card at only 4.625ghz in Windows 7. Would like to see it in XP. What RAM speed and timings you have going there?

But that would only play at the Friday the 14th movie which was a comedy rather a horror show right?

1854 ram speed 8-9-9-24 timings.. I had to relax em a bit to run the ram up..Aqua loves the ram. I need to work on it...Actually it's the settings and affinity that kicks it..

DrNip 12-02-2009 12:38 AM

You get those timings down and Aquamark will love you long time for it.

I do have a a spare copy of XP 64..and a few extra drives..Do you really think it would be a difference????

DrNip 12-02-2009 06:46 AM

Dunno how well 64 bit plays with Aqua but XP 32 should give ya a boost.

lakeside2189 12-03-2009 11:06 AM

Don't have the 32 bit XP just 64...

lakeside2189 12-05-2009 04:38 AM

Testing the vapor X with the Asus..For some reason the Vapor x on top keeps the MSI program from working correctly..
On a side note which probably means nothing the Asus is a much better made card..The quality of craftsmanship is noticeable..

On a second side note I am joining the OCA bots team. I have permission from Kal. Not sure how much I can help being a H20 guy with the upcoming BOTS Rev3 but I like to hang with you guys and that is what counts.. I always take something with me from here...I will change it today sometime...

My best running 3D05 with 2 cards...Beats 2 4870x2's at 4.625..
Didn't mean for this to go 2 times..Not sure why and can't seem to delete!

1.74 on that run..but the ram was set back to 1483 which might be to high for the ram being that low...I just know I'm going to melt something oneday...no pain, no gain...LOL

Neuromancer 12-05-2009 05:43 AM

1.74 volts for what?

ram
maybe the Doc was referring to the cards 1287ish.....core voltage on that run

Neuromancer 12-05-2009 06:36 AM

Oh.. yah 1.7 ish volts is good for RAM LOL

DrNip 12-05-2009 06:54 AM

Yeah the cards.

lakeside2189 12-09-2009 10:37 AM

PCMark05

The 5870 was worth about 1200 points more than the 4870x2...Still really need the SSD's to shine here...I need to be able to finish at 4.600-4.650..I can't keep the ram up to 1800ish ..always crap out at the end...If i drop the ram to 1400ish I can finish but the score is worse than at 4.550 with 1800ish ram...

Still worth 5 to 6 points..

Neuromancer 12-09-2009 02:10 PM

You tried just loosening the timings on the mem to get 1800+ and keep 4.6+ GHz?

lakeside2189 12-09-2009 02:22 PM

Yea, I did that..I always lock on the last test ...I did run 5.75 and dropped the timings to 9-9-9-24 @ 1834 and completed but just a little bit of improvement 18,077...
I'm sure it's me..Probably the CPU or QPI volts...I am still greennish..!!!

I didn't think the GPU would make much difference with PCMark stuff but i ran the same set-up with a 4870x2 and couldn't get over 16,800 so it must count....

Still can't believe I haven't blown something up but there is still time!!!:scared:
You do keep HT enabled right???

I keep HT enabled. What are your subtimings on the RAM and what is your QPI/Dram volts. Also, what type of Core temps are you getting on the CPU this may also affect the IMC.

I am running my 1600Mhz Gskill's at 1914Mhz 9-9-9-24-1N tRFC 72 tRRD 6. I am also runing 2V to the Ram instead of the rated 1.65V.
