So it is destined to have an ownage successor

Witchdoctor 03-11-2010 05:02 AM

I have to think Intel will release a more consumer friendly version in a few months after they have millked these for all they are worth.

Plus stepping will be huge as with the 920 DO was quite a chip for $ 200.00

I would be happy with a similar 32nm chip even if it still a quad

FACE 03-11-2010 05:04 AM

A 32nm quad on x58 would be nice, but a hexa-ownage consumer level chip is a must.

Intel would be raping themselves if they didn't release a few...

There is a rumor of a 970 coming out but has not been confirmed.

Every penny I save not smoking is going to a gulfster or two...

Kal-EL 03-11-2010 05:58 AM

Holy hell them Gulftown submissions are ludicrous speed in 2D, Nice smoke and mirrors show by the Shih regarding pi benches.

ocgmj 03-11-2010 06:02 AM

not likely. Roadmap shows nothing other than i5 and i3 updates until 2011 when we get Sandy Bridge platform (I like to refer to it as Sandy Vag) with 8 core/16 threads cpu's and PCIE 3.0 3x24lane.

They all probably use the same source though. All hearsay but would make sense.

Wow impressive "stock" cooler on that

Hondacity 03-11-2010 09:11 AM

sorry i'm not impressed with the heatsink...

they should open up their car radiators....if you buy a basic radiator the fan is shrouded...intel's fan..well its not....

What about any single QPI Xeons? Is there any locked multi quads or hexa core chips coming soon? Sorry, I haven't had time to keep up with all the news lately. I'll punish myself later :smackbum:

never followed the Xeon train....would the X5650 count?

EDIT: nope, it's 2XQPI.

DrNip 03-11-2010 10:23 AM

Jesus anyone see this?

Well it would count except your right about the dual QPI. Really that wouldn't be a problem except the markup for that extra QPI is like 85%

A 57596 Vantage run was submitted today but it was with a dual Xeon X5680 setup. Still though the 980x by itself is right behind it with 52193. Looks like I might need to pick up a second job to get one of these so I can compete! This CPU is also killing Aquamark as well as some 2 D benches.

Hondacity 03-11-2010 10:44 AM

some guys are getting distributor prices..... i4memory guys are ordering some....they can easily get big points especially top benchers like dinos booj and bobnz are there...if they have youngpro back they'll be kicking some teams aXSes

DrNip 03-12-2010 02:36 AM

Is Gulftown the end of 1366? I say this because when I look at the next big thing, Sandybridge, it is 1356 and 1155 socket. This also would mean the end of 1156 socket. Anyone? Either way I have set up a little personal fund on the side and going to gradually add to it over the spring and summer to pick me up a $1k chip within the future. :D

Witchdoctor 03-12-2010 02:59 AM

I hope not I was hoping to get a few CPU's out of my 760 ....

just a great board .......

But I am sure there will be great boards for the new platforms as well.

Not sure Nipster, anything right now is just wild speculation but looking at available resources and deciphering the bullshit, I'd say 1156 and 1366 are going to get phased out in favor of the sockets you mentioned. PCIE 3.0 would be the biggest reason I guess.

Hondacity 03-12-2010 03:22 AM

hwbot benching needs strategy..i'm guessing sandybridge will be very good..intel's been doing an ok job improving cpu's.

for now i'd just stick with my e8600 for 01..and i670 for everything...GT is just way financially crippling. and i still need to build my ln2 kit. and yes i'm selling everything. cpu and mobo and tripple chan mems. strategize my brothers..make funds for next gen cpu&gpu :D

Yeah it is financially crippling but $50 here, $50 there I should have one by summer time. I've never owned a $1k chip and hopefully when I do it isn't a dud. If so I will have to try to pawn it off on ebay. 32nm is what is calling my name. Well that and 6-12 threads. Looking for great benching chip. My 920 is great but limited to the 21 mult. Looking to put a chip under LN2 this summer. That was my hopes last summer but got side tracked. Who knows, maybe I can score a newer GPU by then too. Don't want to get left behind in old technology :D

For those wondering where I got my info on Sandybridge I got it at Wikipedia. I have found them to be a pretty reliable source on Intel and future Intel.

^nothing scarier than that :)

Chuchnit 03-12-2010 04:14 AM

So when is this thing supposed to actually hit retail stores? I thought intel was good at having stores stocked right after NDA lifts?

Gunslinger 03-12-2010 04:16 AM

Retail 3/16/10

Dentlord 03-12-2010 04:36 AM

So the real question is are the retail b1 stepping a complete waste of money?

I know its the nature of the game, but it sucks that all the favorites get the es that kick major ass and get us all excited about the chip, then when it goes retail the rest of us get crap ($1100 dollar crap at that)

That's NDA date for Xeon offerings too huh? Any word on what Xeons Intel is gonna release on 32nm? Let me guess..... all will be uber expensive dual QPI CPU's??

Well if GT is like i5, it's not looking too good. Difference between ES and retail is HUGE these days. I'm like you; nature of the game, but these differences are just retarded.

Lets hope that since it is $1000 silicon we are talking about that they did get the oc headroom back up close to or at ES samples.

I ran into that with the QX9650, QX9770, 965XE cpu's

Made me decided not to buy XE cpu's anymore unless I was very sure of the stepping.

Just hang out a bit before you buy one, see what people post and make notes on batch numbers. Don't buy online unless they can give you a batch number.

You are a brave soul lol

I was all ready to pounce the second I could, but after seeing what the b1 is doing, I wouldn't spend $300 on one, let alone >$1k
