sadly he doesnt do any LN2 testing, I guess some have achieved 6.1Ghz with it??? Though I guess I wont be going above 1.8V, have to return them,

I'm glad you chose the safe side mate. The Q4EG is almost indestructible.

Patch 04-02-2010 04:48 PM

Batch 3003B242

This baby's going back for a replacement. Won't even boot at 4 Ghz without at least 1.35v under phase temps!

I think it's got a lousy IMC. Granted, I've maxed out the VTT I'm comfortable with at 1.475, but that's no reason to be able to bench friggin Vantage at higher clocks than SPI 1M....

On a side note, I really need to find the FB pin on this 5870 Lightning - cause it can bench 06 at 1350/1250 with 1.35v....

Hondacity 04-02-2010 08:09 PM

mr patch good work!

- cbb?
- cb?
- max qpi?

thanks

thanks :D

Patch 04-02-2010 10:25 PM

Oh yeah, Honda. Inconsistency is the name of this chip.

CB ~ -120
CBB ~ -80
QPI - never specifically tested, but I don't think I ever had it more than 3.6 ghz

In first few hours it seemed like it had no coldbug down to the -160's and CBB of -100 but the last few nights it's been following the above numbers consistently.

Dentlord 04-03-2010 03:16 AM

Hey Patch, what board are you running it on?

Hondacity 04-03-2010 03:50 AM

mr patch...

do you think different voltage settings affect the cbb and cb? evbot? :D

Patch 04-03-2010 07:40 AM

Using Classy 762 with evbot.

Super super fickle with boot setting changes on this chip. Get FF or 10 post codes with the slightest RAM timing change or voltage change. Every time, I have to start with ridiculously conservative settings (clocks, timings, voltages) and laboriously saving and resetting to inch my way up to 5 Ghz.

Then evbot up from there.

Sudden temp changes cause cold bug too. Have to go up a bit, bench some, then bump up again. If I go too quick it bugs.

Sounds like a PITA chip. Do you run your F1 mounts uber-tight? See if it gets better with a "Not so tight" mount.

Kal-EL 04-03-2010 10:45 PM

You guys should really drop down to 2 cores for the 2d benches and increase the cpu clocks.

Depends on the cpu but if you take a look at the recent Gulftown 2d top spot holders, they've all dropped their gulftowns down to two cores ht off and they are running the smack down on 2d records. I dropped mine for 01 and it puts less of a temp load on the cascade allowing me to run away with it to 5.5ghz versus 5.2ghz 6c12t.

MaadDaawg 04-04-2010 08:39 AM

Had mine up to 5626Mhz (29 x 194) @1.68v and ran a 2.82 wprime32, but couldn't get a pic in time before it BSOD :( Rom was my witness though ) :D

I'd die around -131C and come back to life at -126C so I'm thinking it's the board not the chip. If I have time before I leave for Denver I'll try swapping boards and see what happens.

Splave 04-04-2010 10:55 AM

will try 2c2t tonight for some spi 1m and pifast :) hopefully get some 32m on cascade tomorrow. Waiting on the SOC 5870

Patch 04-04-2010 11:46 AM

Now that the holiday weekend is coming to an end, I'll be packing up the CPU to ship out tomorrow for RMA. (OEM from the egg, btw - hopefully they don't give me a hard time when they receive the chip). Praying I get a low CB chip next time to do some good 2D benches. I'll try 2 cores then.

Might slap a pot on a 3870 to use up the last few liters of LN2 tonight before I pack it up.....may nab a trophy or two if I'm lucky.

I'll leave some easter candy right here

CBB -125 CB -150 with 2c2t, lower CBB with no ht but higher cold bug ftw

Very nice, thats an A or B batch chip?

Splave 04-04-2010 06:20 PM

B batch, max after an hour was 13.66 :) hit a wall though so thats the best for now

superpi I cant get close to my pifast speed which has always been the opposite for me. 183x33 I get not convergent in sqr where as I can bench pifast 188x33. Any ideas?

Kal-EL 04-04-2010 06:21 PM

Hey, look who dropped a couple cores! :D

Howz that working for yah splavey?

Splave 04-04-2010 06:25 PM

pretty good only bad thing Is I get cbb issues -125c with 2c2t where as with HT I get -152CBB, cold bug is the same though so its not really a big deal if I catch restart fast enough when I freeze :)

Protip btw kal! the pot doesnt even change temp barely with 2c2t I love it

Kal-EL 04-04-2010 06:30 PM

Run some 01 and Aquamark action and see if it rocks...................

Gutterz 04-04-2010 06:36 PM

did you go up a few on Vcore? Cause I keep raising Bclock till I get that error close out pi reopen then move 1 voltage up run again if it errors I close out re open reset the voltage back. An to the next voltage I go an repeat till it passes. But its usualy Vcore. Once Super pi gives the error you have to close it or it will just do the error again.

Splave 04-04-2010 07:21 PM

yeah tried more vcore up to 1.83v 1.525vtt and still fails, will try some more on phase tomorrow. Going to see what it will run vantage at.

EDIT:

Vantage and 06 both fail even at 5.5ghz CPU tests same as wprime settings lol time to start from the drawing board on that

Wprime 1024 Global bronze, 980x bronze below :) (#1 retail rofl)

Kal-EL 04-04-2010 08:30 PM

Stellar speeds SPlave, stellar I tell yah :D

Dentlord 04-04-2010 08:51 PM

2c2t got me another 100mhz on my phase for 3d at least ... 5.2 instead of 5.1 lol

More ln2 coming once I get the 762 on tuesday.

Splave 04-05-2010 11:04 AM

6.3 :)

holy hey-soos Splave, that is sickness!

Gutterz 04-05-2010 11:48 AM

GTFO lol You get it 6Ghz 3d stable? Retail Army is brewing strength....
You make me want to go an get Ln2 rite now. Im trying to hold off till Wednesday. Ive only been out for 12hrs Im now twitching.

Splave 04-05-2010 02:49 PM

haha! thanks guys glad to inspire :) no 3d action yet another lightning on the way (thanks for the heads rom)

You can either manually delete the files spi creates or just throw up a quick 16k run to clear it out) helps avoid the second crash. unless of course you are actually unstable...

Gutterz 04-05-2010 03:27 PM

I'll have to try that, thanks for the tip.

Patch 04-05-2010 03:42 PM

That's just plain juicy Splave.

I did not know that. Have to give it a try.

Splave 04-05-2010 03:55 PM

yeah I run 2x16k to clear, changed up some of the extra setting cpu signal etc and managed 5.95ghz but then it started acting up again. weird, these arent meant for spi1m anyways right :)

Gutterz 04-05-2010 04:03 PM

I always call it a day once it acts weird. Ive never pulled a good score once it starts acting up so I just save my LN2. Then the next day its fine an Im rite back at it, till its wacky again.

Dentlord 04-05-2010 04:27 PM

Still playing around with the GT on my SS ... ran spi 32m at 5.2, which seems to be about the limit of the chip on my phase (-47c). Tomorrow is the big day, 762 arrives and I can fill up the dewar and start going after the thing for reals :D

Splave 04-05-2010 05:40 PM

hells yes :) 6ghz will be knockin :)

rickss69 04-05-2010 08:56 PM

About ready to give Gulftown a spin...where is the hot spot to pick one up now?

GFDuke 04-06-2010 01:25 AM

They're still at Tiger... "ships in 5-7 days" though

Splave 04-06-2010 04:10 AM

rom and I both got 3003B's from tiger which atleast mine was money :) could be the 760 though fing up
