No worries. Life happens. I figured that out myself ;)

Jeffro64 05-13-2009 05:38 PM

Yeah.... Hows that going bud? BTW....BIG CONGRATS!!

Just wanted to get on here real quick before I go into a coma LOL.... $a.m. is gonna come awful early AGAIN.

Jeffro64 05-16-2009 04:04 AM

FINALLY!!

Just found a AMD retention mount adapter kit for my Megahalem! Now maybe I can chill this thing down abit and get a little more out of her! :D

Finally :D That should definitely help the overclocks out. Now lets see 4ghz+

Jeffro64 05-16-2009 04:35 AM

I hope the heat problem is the only thing keeping it from 4ghz and beyond. It has to be that and learning the tons of other bios settings cause i've seen LN2 runs @ 6ghz.

Better cooling should definitely help. Those PHII scale insane mad with colder temps. Much better scaling on the cold side compared to intel. I bet if that cooler works like it should then you'll be able to hit around 4~4.2ghz. Have you tried AMD Overdrive too? That's actually a windows based OC utility that's worthy of using.

Jeffro64 05-16-2009 09:08 AM

I haven't yet...been playing around in the bios today and no matter what I do I can't get above 3.7ghz. I even tried playing around with some of the other settings in there that I have no idea about what they do and nothing. Playing around with those kinda showed me what they do but still not really sure.

That's the way I learned. I used to read and read and read only to learn the most from trial and error. Just keep very good notes so you will know what settings seemed to help stability. Besides 3.7 isn't bad with the stock heatsink :rofl

Jeffro64 05-16-2009 10:53 AM

LOL... I guess not. Playing around and posting some base line scores... Might as well pick up a few points if I can at stock settings.

That's not too bad for stock scores. See if you can't select a different ram divider and get that ram to atleast 800mhz but keep the same timings. You should really be able to run ~800mhz @ 7-6-6-18 or 6-6-6-18 or even better like 7-6-5-15 with some extra vdimm :D

Good man, you've already picked up a some fraction of points with the wprime run, every little bit counts :D

I'll try that... the setting it was at in those runs is what the bios set it at from the beginning. That ram is my old Corsair ram that is supposed to run at 9-9-9-24 so it might do it. I think the voltage was at 1.5 in those runs so it will handle more.

But it my bios there are like 4 more numbers after those and i'm not sure what to set those on at the timings you suggested.

LOL...Yeah, fraction of points is right. :D

Seems like I had more before what it was at the beggining of these runs, does it take away points after awhile if you don't submit for a long time?

Kal-EL 05-16-2009 04:41 PM

Global points deminish faster than Hardware points. Hardware points are "fastest in hardware" so usually they stay pretty consistant unless other are sumbitting faster scores with that specific hardware.

OK... Got it to the same settings @ 800mhz, didn't make much of a difference at all. I went from 12.172 - 12.14 on wPrime, and the weird thing is CPUz and the mhz that wPrime shows look to be different... Heres a screenshot.

Jeffro64 05-17-2009 06:38 AM

BTW... The timings are set to what's below if that helps.

TCL - 7
TRCD - 7
TRP - 7
TRAS - 20
TRTP - 4
TRC - 27
TWR - 8
TRRD - 4

And it is set on 1T, which is what the default bios setting had all of these at when it was set at the lower Mhz.

That's not a bad gain with only changing the ram. Remember that you didn't play with the cpu mhz. Now I'm not the best ram clocker but I just play around with those advanced timings until I'm unstable and then either pump up more vdimm or relax the timings just a little. I usually test with super pi 1m. It's short, fast and will be slower if you are too tight on timings.

Jeffro64 05-17-2009 11:11 AM

So do I just leave the last four numbers on what they are? Those are the ones I know nothing about or what they should be set at on different timings.

For right now just leave those alone. Get your cpu/nb freq/ram/timings/OS etc. down and then you'll tweak those last for those couple milliseconds or 50 points on a bench of your choice.

Jeffro64 05-17-2009 01:00 PM

UGH.... Sure would be a lot easier if I had one of you guys with experience here to see this bios LOL. I've never seen anything like it before, I mean i'm sure the settings do the same as the bios i'm used too does but they are all just called something else in this bios.

Well nvidia boards are notorious for having very few options and calling it different names. You'll get the hang of it. If you want post up pics of your bios to see if we can decipher it :p

Jeffro64 05-18-2009 05:01 PM

Sorry I haven't posted pics of the rig or bios screens yet.... got home kinda late today from work. But i'll get them up ASAP!

Here's some bios pics... These are just some settings i've been playing with. The CPU/NB Frequency I tried @ 3000Mhz and it wouldn't boot.... It acts fine @ 2600Mhz but I have no idea what this setting is LOL!

Another.... For some reason the site won't let me upload the 2nd pic, said something about a missing security token? Anyways... it showed the first part of this pic of my ram timings and it was...

TLC - 7
TRCD - 8
TRP - 7
TRAS - 15
TRTP - 4
TRC - 27
TWR - 8
TRRD - 4

The DRAM 2nd information is 5-2-6-4-4-110-0 and they are all set to AUTO.

This one was pretty easy with a voltage bump and a bios flash. Make sure your bios is up to date Jeff and I'll call you tommorow to see if we can't get any further here. If you haven't put your new cooler on yet then make it a first priority!

Kal-EL 05-21-2009 10:33 PM

First look at an AMD bios for me, thx bro ;)

I dunno what the security token error means tho

Got the new cooler on last night with the help of a dremmel tool.:trophy:

I gotta say though it isn't as good as I thought it would be...the temps still get over 50c when taking the volts up, but I am sitting at 3.8ghz right now and that wasn't possible before. I hit 3.9 but it wasn't stable at all and temps were hitting almost 70c.

Kal-EL 05-22-2009 07:01 AM

Jeff, did some digging around and it looks like 1.55v @ 3.8ghz thru 4.1ghz are the average speeds done on just air with a max temp of around 73c. FYI

Jeffro64 05-22-2009 07:05 AM

I have mine @ 1.438v now for 3.8Ghz.... I went all the way to 1.7v and couldn't get it to boot @ 4Ghz. Must be some of the other settings I don't know.

Chuchnit 05-22-2009 08:20 AM

Don't give up buddy. Just keep testing. When you finish up you'll know that board through and through for some sub zero benches :D

Kal-EL 05-22-2009 01:03 PM

Sweet Jeff, I see you're making runs at 3.9ghz bro :D

Jeffro64 05-22-2009 01:42 PM

LOL..... It's shakey but it's gettin there. Won't be long before I go water.... gotta get better temps. This chip HATES Heat.... and might be my ram too.

Chuchnit 05-22-2009 03:04 PM

Put those Kingston sticks in.

hellcamino 05-22-2009 09:40 PM

Jeff, run a 3DMark06 baseline for me please., just run it at stock cpu speed but with the north bridge and memory tweaked. Give me a published link for it too please, you can do that by submitting your score online, then select "make result public" and copy/paste the link here.

Jeffro64 05-22-2009 09:51 PM

I'll have to purchase it and install it first bud. Infact i'm having to reinstall everything LOL.... right after we talked windows bit it on me for some reason so thats what i'm up to now. :D
