How about this. Run any platform, any bench. The person with the most participation, or maybe progression or even random drawing wins. That way it doesn't matter how big, bad, what cooling or much money you have spent. Anyone can win. I guarantee you'll get more participation this way not to mention anyone can compete. If anything limit the contest to either 2D or 3D or even to just one bench. Still keep a leader board just so we can see who and what is being benched. Comments?

Ability to bench any platform would definitely fit more people. However, how to accurately gauge participation or progression?
Drawing randomly from participants does not push anyone to do better (although, quite a few of the guys here will push anyway :) ) I need to get my mitts on a working board or figure out how to get this EVGA p67 FTW to post :S |
I am pretty sure we will push ourselves and others. My idea is just to get people to bench and as many as possible. The problem right now is we have hit a slump where not as many are benching of lately. Create a contest where all can bench and I guarantee it will be better. I don't care if it is on air, water, snow, ice, dice, ln2, bacon grease or homebrew let alone slow, fast just bench damn it!

If it is limited to only 1 bench, we can pretty much determine who will win before the contest even begins. by spreading it across all benches adds a little more fairness IMO. So 3Dmark, 01,03,06,vantage,11 - 7 is a PITA. Maybe even a category for air, one for water, and one for extreme ?? |
If there were to be a cooling class I believe it should only be air as everyone can do air. You start to do extreme cooling it kicks many out of the car. I would like to participate and anything past air I'm out. Also if you were to go by the fastest score be it in 2D, 3D or a combination we can already pick who the people are that would win. It's a no brainer, it would be whoever has the best CPU/GPU. That is why I suggested it be by participation, progression or random drawing. Opens it up to the masses and anyone can win.

Had a thought while reading through this. If it's feasable, perhaps it could be done with AMD and Intel in seperate "classes", listings, whatever; the restrictions for each to be decided if that's a good idea. This way the Intel guys won't be forced to accomidate things for the AMD's and the AMD's themselves can compete. ADDITIONAL: I'm one of those that doesn't have access to LN2 cooling as Maaddaawg pointed out but I do have watercooling. I'd hate to see those forced to run on air alone burn something up this time of year if you're in the northern hemisphere so I'd have to vote to at least allow watercooling. |
Understandable on the air/water cooling being allowed. I'm in the south here with temps of 100+ everyday for around 30 days or so! I just would hate to see this contest fall victim to the who has the fastest hardware on LN2.

LN2/DICE will limit the contest to a handful people... |
Contests are............confounding :Dizzy:
Trust me ;) BUT! You gotta make do with what feasible, not everyone will be happy with whatever the final parameters are, so I say just do whatever cuz A contest is better than NO contest. |

I'm quite sure that many guys here still having a bloomfield CPU, so put a 4.5 GHz CPU clock cap, use single thread benchmarks (this way 980x or 920 doesn't make any difference) and have fun...that's alot better than a competition where only 2600k can compete IMHO. i've both AMD, intel 1366 and intel 1155 stuff, i'm just saying this because 1155 sucks badly and is the less tweakable stuff. BTW, i'm a guest here, so anything you decide is good for me. :) |

Well, I think that we should maybe make the contest like we think that we maybe want the contest to be you know, yeah. Thats what I think. My 2 cents :P
|
FurMark single GPU,,, :ohcrap:
Lets heat things up FTW .................. Cap clocks low enough you don't have to be sub ambient to compete but high enough to make it fun |
Ok guys after all of your feedback (thank you for that BTW) I think I am almost settled on a tried but True
Suiperpi 32M Contest.... 4.5GHz Cap this should put most rigs at a place where they can compete. Cooling is not an issue as 4.5GHZ can easily be had on many configurations for benching on Good air or water. I am considering Having 2 classes AMD and Intel so that both sides have a fair shake. This would dilute the prize pool a little as Thermaltake is providing the winning attendees prizes and having 2 classes to award may lower the total value for each winner but then again you guys are all Friends and im sure would like to see as many as possible of your teammates win something cool. so were at the final stretch here just let me know if you would prefer one class or Intel/AMD split. Also I am considering adding extra style prizes for having Thermaltake products in the pictures of your rig including a Thermaltake case/psu/cooler or Tt eSPORTS mouse/KB or whatever you may have from Thermaltake Family. We would like to use the picture in future promo material if you guys have some cool Frosty or bench rig pics using a Thermaltake PSU or something of that sort would be awesome. |
I have no probs either way, but, are there really that many AMD users among us ???

I just want to make sure most importantly everyone has FUN |
I could compete in both. How long would it run for?

I think 30 days is more than enough time to tweak OS, bench, Tweak more..... RMA broken stuff and have fun.... |
I'll do both for the fun of it. ;)

rick dont cheat this time
not srs |
Guess I'm out then...:funnyshit:

SPI is perfect! and rickss play with us! i pretty much learned spi from you remember? SANDY BRIDGE IS NOT ALLOWED! :chaired: |
no x58 here, have some sandyB though and a amd hexa chip, just need to get a board for it
|
sorry guys but we cannot start splitting hairs here..... we will not disclude one socket or another.... its either all GO or NO GO....
everyone should be able to have fun..... thats what we want to do this for.... lets have FUN!!!!! Prizes aside we want to see you guys enjoy this and enjoy just being active as a team and helping eachother out... and hey a few prizes never hurts ;) |
F*** AMD ......................
Just kidding guys and girls, sounds like fun even though I suck at 32m Guess I will have to buy a TT power supply and cooler ................ :ohcrap: Marketing PICs FTW ............. ;) |
we are just playing around really lol
i am game both ways but i do only have a x58 setup tho :( unless i can put my bloody hands on a rampage extreme or p5e3 prem with a E8600 i'll use 775 too :P it's really not far for AMD users mixing with x58 or Sandy players i already have a NICE thermaltake case and cooler i am ready to go! just saying..... AMD is like my biggest turn off!!!!!!!!!!!! |

You dont have to buy one. If you have one though include it in some pics and that would be awesome so that people can see that it does work for ya... we want your guys feedback on what works and what doesnt. |

for real tho.. TT case ain't bad TT heatsink is amazing! wish i still have the boxes i have used the SpinQ and the Sleeve installed a few V1 on friend's system oh and how can i passably forget! i got a Blue orb i even used it as a homemade LN2 pot |
