DOM 02-07-2012 12:37 PM

how are the psu's set up ?

are you running all 4 cards on one psu ?

punx223 02-07-2012 12:43 PM

also like DOM asked are you loading the 5V and 3.3V on both PSUS?

MaadDaawg 02-07-2012 12:57 PM

ummm.. I'm using 1 PSU for the board, CPU, DIMMs and 1 580 - using the second for the remaining 3 580s, the water pump, and the rad fans. Using that little dohinky in the first pic to combine the PSUs... only 1 black and 1 green wire that jumps to the second one so I doubt if I'm using the 3.3 and 5v but :Dizzy:

Anyway, WD and the Punxster were right... dammit. Turned off the lanes of the 3 cards being powered by the second PSU and started it up, just set it for gamers oc to keep it quick, and it booted right up to 4700.

Is there another way to jump the two PSUs together that works better? Thinking I may need to take the Corsair AX1200 out of the wc gamer and use that instead. Maybe 3 PSUs ?? rofl

Just a thought...
One of the six pin PCI connectors from PSU 1 goes into the mobo to power the PCIe lanes. If I were to replace that with a six pin from PSU2 (which currenlty is connected to the 3x580s and used PSU1 to power two cards, would that give me a more even load?

punx223 02-07-2012 01:07 PM

hook a spare Hdd or 2 and a fan or 2 to the second psu an try again

KAL Had same issue awhile back.... (shit many years now) and we did that and all was well after :)

punx223 02-07-2012 01:09 PM

basically what happens is without proper crossloading the psu 12V rails will freak out and either shut off or just get buggier than a 2 dollar whore in hollywood

MaadDaawg 02-07-2012 01:11 PM

Interesting thought.

Add more load to PSU 2? Worth a try, and easier than disassembling the wc gamer and swapping PSUs around :P

thanks bro :)

I'll let you know what develops :D

you dont have a result yet??? what are you ordering hard drives? :p

oh btw make sure you hook the fan to 5V

rofl, I have more spare hdds than I do spare change rofl but it's time to get ready for the wife coming home for dinner... gotta keep the priorities yada yada yada :D

Thinking of putting a 230mm fan on top of the cards and maybe a couple in front of the cards, then I'll plug in a couple hdds off to the side. I thought fans were 12volt too :Dizzy: Do the adapters from molex to 3 pin knock down the voltage? Prolly shouldn't use the big delta's huh

Okay, added 2 92mm fans onto the 5v rail of PSU2 - had to help them start turning but they kept going on their own after than :)

Just let it boot into Gamers OC which I had set last night and it booted up on the first attempt. Nothing earth shattering at ~4700mhz, but better than it would do yesterday. Shitty RAM timings too on this one... default gamer oc I guess? Set the cards up to 845 and ran a vantage test (this time with with the CPU handling the Physx)

Hard to get a good screeny cause in this mode effing Speettrap is still on so it bounces from 1200 up to 4700. Caught it the fastest I could but forgot to drop down the box to show the 4 GPUs.

Next test will be full extreme oc, and we'll see what happens. May still need to balance the load between the PSUs better :D

DOM 02-08-2012 12:20 PM

I got a lot of runs with the cpu like that it doesn't matter I don't even put in the clocks its to much work :rofl

Let some what she can do MD :D

Having better luck manually OCing than using the presets. Ran Vantage set at 5.1gigs though CPUz shows less, should have waited before taking the pic lol
Worth only 5.9 boints cause everyone else w/ 4 x 580 is probably running them extreme.. oh well.

Just testing still anyway, and seems to be good room for improvement

Wife will kill me if I don't straighten up before she gets home tonight :D

Witchdoctor 02-09-2012 08:31 AM

48K CPU ...............

Man I wish I had one of dem .......... :kneelsuckers:

Dude, I would trow every card that I own that will run Vantage on that beast ........

even with half assed GPU clocks you would clean up, especially if you are sitting on some 8800 nV and 3K ati's

best I can get on my 4 core is 37K @ 5.5

I see who wears the paints in your house shell crack that whip on you

But nice score can't you run 1000 core on water ?

Witchdoctor 02-09-2012 08:56 AM

Pipe that rad out the window ............

or use the Rick method, stick it in a cooler under Ice .......... FTW :clapping:

52K or bust ............

Edit, just checked the highest lowest clocked stock

try 290.36

Thanks guys :) Fortunately, it's getting better and better as I learn how to tune this thing.. owe grats to Punx223 who gave me the fix on the power imbalance  Added 2 raptors to the 12v rail of PSU2 and 2 fans to the 5v rail.. seems to have done the trick.

Coolest thing is, I don't think I've maxed out the proc yet :) Last runs were at 5.5gigs without a hickup. And that's WITH HT on :)

Weather is too damn mild in Chicago, had the window open and didn't even have to change out of my jammies  Think I'll setup my wet ice chiller tomorrow and run the coolant thru 50ft of copper tubing surrounded by 50lbs of wet ice .. should help :D

Here's the latest

and yep, she'd kick my ass if she came home and saw this room the way it looks now  don't even want to think about it

unfortunately, the only other cards I have around the house are a couple of 5870s and two 560T1s... no older ones... oh well :D

for SS just open superpi and run/minimize take ss :)

punx223 02-09-2012 10:53 AM

why does GPUZ show 2 way sli?!?!

I noticed that too, but it does show all 4 in the drop down. All 4 lanes are on and all are powered, so I'm thinking it's a CPUz thing??? Could it be I'm not getting enuf power to the last 2? I think I'll turn up the juice to the lanes on the next run and see if that changes anything

I think what he is saying is, open and run super pi. It will make your cpuz showits true settings cause it will be under load. so yea ope super p[i, run it and minimize so its not in your ss. Then take your ss while superpi is running.

or he can just disable speedstep in the bios

sometimes theres issues when disabling speedstep unfortunately lol.....

thats why on 3D os I always have Superpi on desktop and ready lol

MaadDaawg 02-09-2012 01:58 PM

Actually, I disabled it this morning in the BIOS before I ran any of the benches. Interesting idea though.

What sort of issues does disabling it in BIOS create?

Could that be why GPUz shows only 2 GPUs enabled?

MaadDaawg 02-09-2012 02:04 PM

Picked up 10 globals and 2 cups today. More team boints then personal :D

Well done my friend. I find benching for the team more gratifying than personal points.

+1

I miss the days when all Hardware was counted towards the team total.

punx223 02-10-2012 07:13 AM

nah wont be reason showing 2 GPUs.

but I have seen issues where disabling will mess up overclock or cause issues with reaching max multi.

HERE YA GO DOM

As per your request.. . Vantage at 5.5 gigs and 52K+ Vantage :D

Only way I could get the 5500 reading though was with physx on the card and not on the CPU. Wouldn't clear the CPU tests ... dammit.

The 52+ score at 5.4 is legit and I'm hoping will bring me a few more boints :D

WD - not a 48K processor, a 53K processor

However, this SB-E ain't no SB. What an effing PITA getting this thing to clock :ohcrap: Couldn't get it past 4.8 yesterday and took me hours to get it back up to 5.5 today. That's what I get for being a dumb shit the other day and not saving my settings  Finacky little bitch though

Was able to notch up my 03 score a little too :)

Still having problems clocking up my DIMMs too ? Maybe tomorrow (which I din't show anyway)

Strange, GPUz now shows 3 enabled GTX 580s instead of the two it used to show, and look how much higher the score in vantage :Dizzy: nVc shows 4 enabled :Dizzy:

Wonder if all 4 aren't firing?

Finally got it running good again  but the bot seems to be down

*Added 2 hours later* checking out the sli I found that in nVcp I am running tri sli not quad sli. I've moved things around, replaced the bridge.. no change. Tomorrow I pull the quad sli again and check out slot 2. Tried assigning Phyx to that gpu and it took it.. weird

MaadDaawg 02-20-2012 06:40 AM

Now I'm thinking it's a driver issue.

cards 2,3,4 ran fine as a tri sli - so I thought it might be the oc key. Removed that and put the bridge back on with all 4 cards enabled, and the nVcp told me I had tri sli. Even though it graphically depicted 4 cards

wtf??

Well, further testing reveals it's not a driver issue either. Doesn't appear to be connected with power distribution either. The most it wants to recognize is 3 GPUs and 1 Phyx card, which doesn't really help with Vantage.

Any thoughts?

MaadDaawg 02-24-2012 05:33 AM

EVERYONE CAN BREATHE A SIGH OF RELIEF

FINALLY GOT MY RIVE INTO 4 WAY SLI MODE
