Hahaha!!! Don't make me drive down to Texas Jeffro and take the trainin wheels off you myself!

Jeffro64 07-19-2009 12:53 PM

LMAO! I ain't skeered to try it... Just gotta get the time!! :D

Kal-EL 07-19-2009 01:11 PM

Nip, u submit more benches to the bot today or is it that the forum submissions kicked in some extra points? Ur at 355 now :D

DrNip 07-19-2009 01:46 PM

It's called just doin the damn thing supes. Nice lil pickup of 75 points. Expect to see me in 400 point land in August.

OK boys and girls with out further a dew here is what I did to get where I got. Pretty simple or at least it seems now. A lil special help from Chuchnit and 3oh6 got me where I needed to go. I was there but not all the way. With their advice I got my fix!

All pics are click-able!

Here is a shot of the jumper I switch to pins 2 & 3 which cured my lonely lil o cold bug. As soon as I flipped the switch my worries were gone...
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4547.jpg

Here are my BIOS screenshots of the settings I tweaked.

Pay attention to the settings in the left column not the right. I don't have the settings saved but merely changed them for this miniature guide. Also your settings might vary. I recommend you use a multimeter to measure your volts. A setting of 1.65v DIMM nets me 1.7v in Windows.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4548.jpg

I changed the two settings in the pic from Auto to 6.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4549.jpg

Simple enough. I used various timings but mainly these in the end. Be warned that not all RAM is capable of running these speeds at these timings.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4550.jpg

I booted at 220 BCLK and used eleet to get me the rest of my BCLK within Windows.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4552.jpg

This last shot I had my QPI Frequency Selection set to 4.8 not Auto. So disregard the Auto setting.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4551.jpg

Some benches and what not I had to tweak my VTT or Core volts up more within eleet. Sometimes I ran 115 pcie too. But in a nut shell this is what I used. After the fact I sat around and thought that I might have gotten some more MHz by changing my RAM ratio to 2:6 instead of 2:8. I will be trying this next time.

punx223 07-19-2009 02:01 PM

damn nip... very good work nip. excellent results

Kal-EL 07-19-2009 02:03 PM

Thats what I'm talkin bout, lead teh way buddy

DrNip 07-19-2009 02:05 PM

Thanx guys. Just tryin to help all those in need! More testing to come as I got the itch more than ever now. Makes me want to get back in there and fire up the ol DFI and see what I can do with it again.

HITandRUN 07-19-2009 04:04 PM

Very nice results there and settings! I sure try these next week! cool2

DrNip 08-03-2009 05:42 PM

Well it is official. Ten lbs DICE and 4 hours later and nothing to show for. 1st I tired working on the SuperPi contest. That was a no go so I switched it up to the bot and my 8600gt's. That was also a no go. So I went ahead and tried my 295 and guess what, that was a no go too. I did manage a 355k Aquamark run but BLEEPING cpu-z 1.52 glitched out in the screenshot and showed me with a 20 mult instead of the 21 mult I was running which showed my BCLK incorrect. Didn't notice it until I went to upload it at the bot. These single PCB 295's aren't as good as there dual PCB brothers. They don't overclock as well and softmods don't work on them. I wish I would have known that. Of course it all could be driver related. I need to roll back a driver or two and see.

As of lately I have had more downs than ups on overclocking and hardware purchases. I need a break. Got to get away and get my head clear and come back with a new game plan. I'll be out of the overclocking office for a few days. Goin to get back into some gaming on Aug 18th with Wolfenstein. Maybe that is what I need. I just know somethin has to give.

On top of the increasing competition at the bot, having to deal with hardware dilemas are "SUCKOS" . Take ur break brudder Nip, I'll pick up the slack this week.

Buckeye 08-03-2009 06:36 PM

Try changing your TRL to 68 on the RAM and see what that does.

Kal-EL 08-03-2009 06:59 PM

Hold the phone, can't seem to get past a 7F post code on the classy.
Here we go again...........................

Finally :D in the bios.

RomDominance 08-03-2009 07:29 PM

Sorry about your oc blues Nip,...a little vaca from benchin always seems to focus me.

Kal, keep in mind that the classy has its quarks. One is its stubborness to boot with HT on while connected to certain sata ports. So if she gives you trouble booting in a config you know should work, try the boot disc in a different sata port. Any other woes, please don't hesitate to pm or call bro.to_keep_order

Thx buddy, noticed 2 quirks already, wierd lil board gonna give me a run for me money but HEY, least the sucker aint dead like Asus Rampage ExtremageFail.

DrNip 08-04-2009 05:28 AM

Well I'm feeling better today. I was ready to quit it all last night! LOL There ain't nothin worse than wasting a nights worth of DICE, time and money on nothing. Well I guess I could have broke some hardware as that would have been worse.

I think I was trying to run to high of uncore last night. That and shitty drivers. New plan is to back off the uncore and use a different set of drivers.

punx223 08-04-2009 06:44 AM

soups if your getting 7F then your video has an issue, as 7f is normal and basically means its sitting on the bios screen saying press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup :good:

DrNip 08-08-2009 02:13 PM

2D = Owned & 3D = Sort Of Owned

Almost sub 7 in 32m. AGHHHHHH. If I only would have had my Blades and they been functioning. I'm not done here.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...rpi32m_1-4.jpg

I had a 1m run of 7.828s but screwed up on the screenshot. I didn't have my memory tab shot on cpuz. No matter what I did I couldn't run it again at this speed. This would have had me at 6th place.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...erpi1m_1-2.jpg

So I had to settle for 7.875s and 11th place.
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...uperpi1m_2.jpg

PiFast good enough for 2nd place. :D

Chuchnit 08-08-2009 03:25 PM

Nice runs nip. I had my first i7 dice experience today. It totallly sucked. I was having OS problems and just called it quits within two hours. I'm glad you session went well instead of like last time. Grats on the ranking.

DrNip 08-08-2009 03:33 PM

3D was a flop again. I can't call it. I was able to run 06 at 5ghz the 1st time when I scored 30k with my 260's even though it only took 4.8ghz for that run. Now I can't even run 4.75ghz on 06. I am goin to have to hook up the air again and figure out what is going on with it. Dunno. 2D's though I'm knocking them out of the park.

Kal-EL 08-08-2009 07:22 PM

Nice runs Nip, especially the 2nd place run :good:

DrNip 08-09-2009 03:14 PM

OK I finally established a base line for my 295's at high speeds. I made a few volt adjustments and seemed to have nailed it. One of the main adjustments was my VTT from 1.5v'ish to only 1.4v. I am thinking that might have been one of my biggest problems and will have to go back on all my 2D benches with lower VTT to see if I can run them higher. These 4 benches were ran straight thru back to back unlike my usual run a bench and restart my system to run the next which prolly hurt my score some. I think I have a lil more headroom on my GPU's and some more on my CPU. I have noticed these single pcb 295's don't clock as high as there double pcb counterparts. But some how they score about the same. That was one of my problems all along was I was trying to clock way too high on them. Any-hoo enough of the small chit chat and here is what I came up with that put me over 400 points. :D

One thing I just started to do is include my Eleet utility with the volts tab showing as well a memset so I know what I ran that bench at instead of the usual page after page of notebooks I use to write them down in. Genius I tell ya.

dinos22 08-09-2009 03:30 PM

my heart jumped a little when i saw the first line

maybe time to edit it hahahahah

nice OCing mate ;)

DrNip 08-09-2009 03:34 PM

HA I just noticed that. Sub 6, lol. I wish. Its been corrected.

Kal-EL 08-09-2009 04:51 PM

I use my old screenys too for a record of what settings I ran on stuff. We need to buckle down and put together a printable settings template instead of making notes in a notebook, lol. Print 50 pages and fill in the blanks for scientific oc.

thebanik 08-09-2009 10:50 PM

Nice going there....awesome stuff with the 920....

Chuchnit 08-10-2009 01:32 AM

Nip that 920 was screaming through vantage. Did it pass the CPU test at the same speed in the screenie?

karmakazi 08-10-2009 04:47 AM

Nice stuff here man!! Glad this session went better than the last one. The single PCB 295 clocks lower probably because one PCB w/ 2 gpus gets hotter, as do all the other components. What were your loaded temps like?

I find when I start losing MHz in clocks and cant run at same speeds anymore, its usually condensation. I call it quits and tear things down and figure out if theres any water. If not then back to benching :D

Yep. Its got more in it too.

2chesapeakes 08-10-2009 02:15 PM

Congrats Nip looks like a very productive OCing session.
Did you hit any type of wall at 4800Mhz. I seem to be stuck at the 4800 Mhz with both the 965EE and 975EE and on both mobo's the R2E and the Classy.

DrNip 08-10-2009 02:37 PM

Nope. My initial wall was 238 BCLK, roughly 5ghz. A few tweaks and I blew past it. Now my wall is around 245ish BCLK. I dunno how I hit 249 BCLK that one time but I did. I need to go back and try highest BCLK with my lower VTT trick.

You could just have two BCLK unfriendly chips there. What multiplier you trying to use and at what BCLK? I read that certain multipliers don't play nice. You can also post what settings you are using here or start a thread on it. Here are the settings I am interested in seeing that you are trying to use.

dinos22 08-10-2009 03:17 PM

i found that actually going lower on volts will go to higher bus speed
maybe try to experient some more with lower volts as a lot of other guys are finding the same

you are doing well though no doubt

DrNip 08-10-2009 05:04 PM

Yep can't wait to snag me an ln2 dewar. Got some 775 get back to do. Hopefully this chick gets back with me on this one.

Kal-EL 08-10-2009 06:34 PM

Good show on the bios settings bro, true Overclockaholics fashion :good:

DrNip 08-18-2009 04:34 PM

HAHA decided to flip the script. Here is something I haven't done in along time and definitely not with my i7 setup. STRESS TEST. Yeah, yeah I did it a lil while back but for like 30-60 minutes at 4.2ghz. I'm going for the full 8 hours this time and with a real overclock or at least the start of one. Working on a nice clock for my gaming coming up real soon. Here is what I have so far and I know this is far from stable. I'm kinda proud of my lil cpu that could. 4.315ghz at 1.27-1.282 volts. Proud of my RAM and uncore too. Test being ran is Prime95 blend. I pass the 4.3ghz barrier I will move onto 4.4ghz! I will keep you updated.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j..._4315ghz_2.png

DrNip 08-19-2009 06:46 AM

Well I had to settle for only 6 hours as I woke up this morning a lil before 2am to go to work just to realize there was one of the biggest lightening/thunder/rain/wind storms going on that I had ever seen. Not wise. True I have a nice power strip, wish it was an uninterrupted power supply, but why chance it right? So I will add that to my rule list:
  1. Overclockaholics don't let other Overclockaholics buy cheap probes!
  2. Wise man once said, "Check your local news/weather before going to bed when your plans are to run a stress test all night."

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j..._4315ghz_3.png

4.3ghz just ain't good enough for me as it was too easy. I need something I have to work for. 4.4ghz out! I have a feeling heat will be a factor for me as I have a low voltage/ high temp CPU.

NICE!!! i wanna see the temps at your 24/7 clock once you decide on it :D

DrNip 08-19-2009 10:39 AM

Well at that speed I am cruising at mid 40's. I am also only on air. But my 24 hour clock is going to be hurt but heat I feel.

DrNip 08-22-2009 10:40 AM

Say hello to my little friends. I've been out doing a little recruiting. From left to right we have a Celeron 347, Celron 352 and a Pentium 631. Hopefully out of the three one will take me to 7ghz land! :D Looking to pick up a ASUS P5B Deluxe today if I don't get out bidded. Pick up the RAM next week and it is off to the races. I am just wondering if I will need a north bridge pot, anyone?

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4652.jpg

And say hello to my pride and joy.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...h_IMG_4655.jpg

This dewar is bigger than what I thought it would be. I was barely able to put it in the benching closet. Just need a withdrawal device for it. Looking to pick one up in two weeks.

Buckeye 08-22-2009 11:43 AM

Nice Dewar there !!! :D

karmakazi 08-25-2009 07:01 AM

Nippy, northbridge pot will be very helpful with 965 chipsets. Look in XS LN2/DICE section, someone was selling some for like $5 + s/h
