980x Q3FE ES A4 DEAD AT 1.75v after only a few hours.
LN2
-160 no CB yet, CBB unknown - no chance to test
Only benched Vantage, no 2D testing yet
Classified 4way
Win 7
Crossfired 5870's (water+air)

CPUZ 1.54 kept freezing with more than one tab open. Any others with that problem?

Only benched Vantage under cold.

36,734 crossfired 5870's

New retail CPU on the way to make sure it isn't the mobo that's dead

Sry for you loss bro,

Patch, if you can swing some additional voltage details, that'd be great brother so we can keep an eye out for similar occurrances

Patch 03-30-2010 04:59 PM

Got my new CPU today and Classy 4way works fine - so it verifies the dead CPU. :(

Must have been VTT. I reviewed my memory of voltages when looking at BIOS and nothing was close to out of line except for VTT.

The VTT "vid" on this retail chip is 1.25v. 100mv more than I assumed.

I was giving the dead 980x a VTT of 1.65v. Ignorance can be deadly, I guess.

Nobody's fault but my own.

I'm gonna go slow and post some info on this retail chip later.

After a rough start with the new weapon this morning, the battle goes well for the Alliance. The Romulan contingent has penetrated deep into the bot system and struck at the very core of the enemy. Jolan'Tru Centurions!

This morning when the 980x arrived I was very pleasantly surprised that it booted at 4.8 at just 1.475vc and 1.4vtt. I was elated when it went all the way up to 5.3 at that voltage and wprimed 32m. It was then that I discovered that this extremely efficient chip's cb is at -116c. Then the news got worse, the chip's cbb was -61c. FRACK!!! Needless to say, a 2.95s wp32 is all she has in her at 5.45Mhz.

Then the pot comes off, and the admiral goes on sebaticle to gather his thoughts and temper. I re-attacked it for 3d three hours later with surprisingly stellar results. Check this shit out. Oh and none of its been submitted. Its been saved for your counter offensive this weekend. Buwahahaha!!!:gun5:

Edit for Kal: Batch # 3003 B 320 Costa Rica, not sure whether I love it our loath it...guess I need to love on her a bit more to decide

xmp profiles of tripple chan sticks....required 1.65v for the vtt... these should never be applied to the 32nm chips......corsair and kingstons...have these settings...and its for the 45nm..but even the 45nm's are close to dying coz of 1.65v....

xmp profiles for the dual channel sticks require less...

have fun...with the new cpu...what batch ?

Yeah I know! He has been preaching the VTT rule again and again! Thanks man I know now not to set it over 1.5V.

Hondacity 03-31-2010 08:25 AM

the 45nm chips..ummm you can use 1.65v for benching...for high bclks..and high ddr3 speeds...too much..will only hurt imc

some 45nm chips can ONLY take 1.55 ****************************** encrypted*****

Splave 03-31-2010 08:37 AM

alright I will keep it under 2v, understood ;)

Nice results RomDom! Now you need a no-cold-bug cpu.
