If it's AMD you are going for I had better luck out of the 790 than the 890... http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...be_6409.17_mhz

No one else thinks that 850W is too much for an AMD chip and 460? Idle will be what.. .125W?

Decent 550W should do yah good...(LN2.. yeah 850... gaymer though... I doubt you will stress the 550)

Efficiency wise you want to stay in the hotspot of a PSU.. max load=half is not the efficient zone...

Yeah its too much. I was under the assumption he was going with something more when I suggested it. Maybe try this.

Here is the mobo I am going to go with when I finally decide to get off my arse and go down the AMD road.

Ok, I could get some Ripjaws at 2000mhz. They're probably better than those dominators.:

I like having a good psu, then I can use it for other setups later:)

I won't use money for the 480GTX, way to expensive:) then I rather get a SLI setup of 460s:p

From what I've seen the UD7 890 is pretty impressive, ram doesn't matter much you'll want low CAS over frequency like some CAS6 1600's would do great. The big thing with these setups is that there is no cold bug. Even if this isn't a bench rig, you always have the option to insulate and rip out some killer runs.

The biggest difference between the 790 and 890 from what I hear is HT (like bclck) is allot higher with the 6 thubans, and the RAID controller is greatly improved.

^right on :)

Can't seem to find any 1600's CL6. But there are a few CL7 1600's:)

But does it matter if they say core i5/i7 or AMD sticks?

DrNip 08-17-2010 04:36 AM

Preach it reverend preach it. Look for the Mushkin Ridgeback low volts. Newegg is out of them but they are at other places. Never mind the 3 reviews on them. One guy had a DOA stick which brought the ratings down. Think what these puppies would do at 1.65v? Hell they do cas 7 @ 1600MHz at 1.35v!

^ those would do nicely Nipster.

Not sure of the availability of these were you are Kriz, but these are champs, very versatile and would probably run close to 1000mhz on a i3/i5/i7 setup if you ever go that route.
