Splave 03-17-2010 05:28 AM

I only raised vgpu, left memory at stock 1200

Dentlord 03-17-2010 05:29 AM

not looking very good, 1000 core is insta-fail up to 1.215v so far

Added

Now up to 1.25v still no love at all

Finally got it to pass Vantage @ 1000/1200, took 1.275v

Good gpu score though.

looks like your card is getting pretty toasty. I read that you need to washer mod the backside or the cooler will not contact properly. I noticed mine was pretty tippy

that is ridiculous man. A 500 bone card that needs a washer mod? Why didn't they just sell it with a kingpin pot attached?

Splave 03-17-2010 06:47 AM

Wonder if it's the PWM frequency MSI (aside from the jacked heatsink) set that makes these things hot at stock values? Like on the Classified m/b's, as you jack up the cpu and VTT core, you have to adjust the PWM frequency due to increase noise levels. If I leave my pwm frequency when running the board at lower speeds on air it get ridiculously hot.

Good point :P Did you guys see Maddawg's review on the egg?

Splave 03-17-2010 06:59 AM

Ya I saw both. I was talking about the one bitching about the lack of a tek 9 6.66 fully insulated strapped to it.

Dentlord 03-17-2010 07:17 AM

I sure hope that the better power delivery will help this card when cold, on air its not even close to my old asus.

Awaiting Rom's results tonight, might have to throw a pot at it today myself.

Witchdoctor 03-17-2010 07:29 AM

Man this sucks guys I was hoping the lightnings were da shit .....

Hope things turn around under the cold a bit .....

My HIS hit 1050/1300 on air @ 1.275

Splave 03-17-2010 07:49 AM

I got frustrated pretty quickly, didnt try different drivers. CPU was at safe clocks on cascade 4.9ghz and loose ass ram.

Maybe it doesnt like afterburner extreme? but why would all the top guys use it?

lol didn't see that. Never go to newegg myself, but the reviews are bitchin!

Chuchnit 03-17-2010 07:51 AM

Ya, OCA is owning the reviews on that particular product, hehe.

Witchdoctor 03-17-2010 07:58 AM

That's because we have to get our shit the old fasiond way

buy it ....... :ohcrap:

Jor-El 03-17-2010 08:26 AM

soft vgpu = no go

Guys,

You have to make sure you're using a VR to raise vgpu, Afterburner does not work. I was testing 1.16vgpu all along till today I decided to double check real volts with a dmm.

Afterburner at 1.35v > Real measurement = 1.16v

Anybody knows the vgpy mod soldering points and VR?

Hondacity 03-17-2010 08:38 AM

that couldn't be right...

are you using afterburner extreme?

also 1.1v is too low...you sure you measurin at the right spot?

Chuchnit 03-17-2010 08:41 AM

Nickshih said there was no hardmod needed. :Dizzy:

Hondacity 03-17-2010 08:45 AM

i believe nickshih....

the pwm circuit should work unless the card is borked...

Dentlord 03-17-2010 08:47 AM

I have to disagree here, if it wasnt raising voltage, why would the test get farther each time I bumped it until it passed at 1.275v and then I could run it repeatedly without crashing?

Afterburner works (at least the extreme version)

Honda yes the card has build in voltage reading spots...

They read vgpu: 1.16v and Vmem: 1.62v

I tried TPU GPU tool and Afterburner 1.5.0 you can raise volts till 1.35v on Afterburner but does nothing to real volts.

TPU GPU tool says "this card is not compatible with volt increase".

Splave 03-17-2010 08:53 AM

so you did try AB extreme? It was settings volts fine for me. I love the slide in DMM probe holders :)

Pretty sure k|ng used it to break the 03 record the other day (using 10.3a drivers)

Did you measure with DMM? Use the leads provided with the card.

Voltages where the same with 1.16 or 1.35...

No I tried regular Afterburner 1.5.0 have to try extreme then.

Sick I didnt even know those were in the package!!

AB definitely confirmed working here, acutally reads higher than what you set in AB by .03v

Extreme?!

I will test Extreme ver. now and report back I was using regular AB 1.50 lol

No changes what so ever and the card was doing ok even then lol

Dentlord 03-17-2010 09:07 AM

Wow, 1.275v set in AB, under load in Vantage, 1.315v actual!

Splave 03-17-2010 09:24 AM

bangin lol guess the reason they clock better it they add .05v ;)

Dent did it bounce around alot? more than .005 or so?

Jor-El 03-17-2010 09:25 AM

Confirmed: my card does not scale voltages with software (AB/ABE) tried both. Guess I received a FUBAR card then.

There you go: 1.42vgpu on ABE and volts still the same on screen and dmm: solid 1.125...

Can anyone confirm their BIOS version (same or different then mine):

That sux... $500 just to wait for RMA. That is, unless you want to hard mod an already modded card....

So you uninstalled AB and then installed ABE? I can't see how you're card would just be mechanically fubarred like that.

1.311 to 1.318 in the first test of vantage

Hondacity 03-17-2010 09:38 AM

jor

try plugging your voltmeter in a 110v socket...maybe that is not working lol...

or measure some batteries...

Splave 03-17-2010 09:38 AM

guys with these fattie wide boy cards I had to strip alot of insulation off my tek to get it so sit flush and with good contact. something to keep in mind.

@dent looks kosher to me

Yes I did remove AB completely and installed ABE on 2 dif. Oses.

Well It wouldn't surprise you if I send a pic of the box it came with.

Honda I tested DMM bats are fine, and used 2 different multimeters.

Look at the voltage monitor on ABE, it's stuck even though I selected 1.42vgpu:

Did you unlock unofficial overclocking?

Jor-El 03-17-2010 10:09 AM

Did any of your cards came with a hand writing sticker on the outside of the box:

nope, did look like a toddler packed it though. All the tabs were ripped up

Yes! Freaking volt is solid 1.125v no matter what I do.
