4.5ghz or bust!

GeorgeStorm 10-15-2010 05:18 AM

The q6600 is a great chip for boints.
And dents right, all about the FSB wall, hoping to get a bit more cold and rebench mine :)
And since you're on DI, you should be beating my scores :P

Got both. ;)

DrNip 10-15-2010 03:41 PM

So far 440 FSB / 3.96ghz and it was a bitch to get to that! SetFSB doesn't work. I used the two generatorsB to work. Thank you Jesus!peeps were talking about on the net but no worky. Sucks as I was going to rely on SetFSB but now I have to use the BIOS. :(

EDIT: LOL, Got SetFSB to work! Thank you Jesus!

DOM 10-15-2010 03:59 PM

4.5+ :P

so are you setting all the volts in the bios or auto ftw :)

i wann do some dice/ln2 :(

i was trying to find places that sell ln2 it was all fail lol

only airgas i could find

DrNip 10-15-2010 04:03 PM

Setting the volts my man. Sure ain't no easy overclocking core i3,5,7 platform. So far 4.2ghz.

DOM 10-15-2010 04:07 PM

Moving on to other 2D benches.

Dentlord 10-15-2010 05:35 PM

Good work on that Q, should get you plenty of 2d hardware bointage!

DrNip 10-15-2010 05:37 PM

Damn OS borked on me and now I'm having to reinstall it. WTF!

Results are in. Couldn't get one of my OS's to load and couldn't get the TaiServer to jive for some reason with cas 7 timings so had to run my SuperPi 32m at cas 8. Needed LN2 as I believe this chip had way more in her but DICE just wasn't getting it done. Good enough for 100.9 hardware boints. Mobo took about 45 minutes of getting use to but then after that it was on. Fairly easy to overclock and was using my Hyper Elipda RAM. No CPU-z isn't picking up on the volts correctly as I am using a 1.75 multiplier on it. Volts were really 1.7-1.8ish :D

Some nice results. Looking forward to LN2, what other voltages were you running?

DrNip 10-16-2010 02:13 AM

Anywhere from:
1.55-1.75VTT!!! LOL
1.55-1.65 NB
1.625 SB
Skew clocks I left at 0. Tried 100, 200 and 300 but 0 netted me the highest FSB. I prolly could have tweaked some of the volts down but had limited time. I will try the chip again one day on LN2 and will do this.

Dentlord 10-16-2010 02:18 AM

Awesome, nice 100 boint night!

GeorgeStorm 10-16-2010 02:25 AM

Yeah, defo worth having another go with it
I did far better second time round with mine. Still 100 boints is 100 boints :)

Chuchnit 10-16-2010 05:44 AM

Nice going Trav. I have a feeling that the more you play with that board, the better you'll get. I'd say there is more in that CPU! Do you think using 2x1GB sticks will take a little load off the NB and allow a few more FSB?

DrNip 10-16-2010 05:48 AM

Maybe. I was only using one 2GB stick on CPUz but 4GB on the rest. Will try that next time.

Say hello to my little $100 friend. :D

Attachment 3686

Not as pretty or new as my Taylor-Wharton 35 LD was but hopefully she will get the job done. Found this 40 miles down the road from my house so no shipping charge. Came with no cap but I found one for $50. Dunno if it has a vacuum but will find out soon enough. 30 LD for $100, I had to roll the dice on it because if it pays off then score one for me. If it doesn't work properly then looks like my mom will have a $100 flower pot for the yard. She gets into shit like that. :D

Hondacity 10-16-2010 05:56 PM

hello ! LOL

whats the capacity on that thing? looks huge like 50L

Patch 10-16-2010 06:46 PM

Nice find!

DrNip 10-17-2010 01:08 AM

It is 23" tall x 18" wide so I say around 30-32 LD. It has a 3 1/2" mouth. I wish it had a 2" or so but still, $100. A little polish and this thing would be shining. :D

Dentlord 10-17-2010 03:28 AM

Looks awesome Nipster!! Now let us all join hands and pray for vacuum :D

DrNip 10-17-2010 03:37 AM

Question, if it doesn't have vacuum is it fixable or is it just trash?

You have to send it off to be repaired, and they may or may not be able to, and it costs a ton of money.....

At least that's what I was told by a few different people where I get mine filled.

DrNip 10-17-2010 04:00 AM

Well it will have to wait. Between the cap and a torch I will be out another $100. I hate being on a budget now a days! :(

Prolly be about a month until I can get her down to the shop to get her filled and or tested.

Dentlord 10-17-2010 04:24 AM

If you wanna bring it by the hotel I can dump a couple liters in it and see if its good... I'm dying to know as well lol

DrNip 10-17-2010 04:57 AM

We can do this. Will be leaving for work in a few minutes. I can swing it by then.

Well after much thought my recent dewar purchase just wasn't going to suit my needs. It was too heavy, had too big of neck and the top walls weren't made for pouring as I almost had to turn the dewar upside down to pour it. Just scored another one off ebay for $90! It is a 31 liter. A little bigger than what I needed but the price was right.
