Don't know about other boards, But the WS is limited to 1.53 , no matter what I tried still got the exceeded voltage pop up ???

Boards going back though. I am on the sideline  They have been pulled everywhere so it is up to Intel to get these new chipsets out ... and then for board makers to get them into their products ....

Not sure what I will be going with yet, just want 2 16X slots that have some seperation.

Your set up is ta Bomb bro .......... Rock the Bot boat FTW

DrNip 02-01-2011 04:46 AM

Thanks doc. Just wish I could rock XP too. Oh well though. Can't cry over it forever. Moving on. Windows 7 reinstalled.

It's been awhile and some might have thought I was dead in the benching area, they ain't the best but is all I can do in this busy life I have now a days. 3D benches to come soon. I haven't ran a 3D in a good year or so it seems.

Tear it up Bro.....

O what a feeling ............ :)

DrNip 02-01-2011 02:01 PM

Tried 57 multi. I get to the end of the Windows logon screen and it freezes. Prolly could of got past it with a little more volts as it was the same way at 1st with 56 multi. Gave it more volts and I was in.

Witchdoctor 02-01-2011 02:02 PM

What load temps you rolling with the Koolit ?

DrNip 02-01-2011 02:05 PM

Dunno on those clocks as I was out in the garage and old man winter was helping me. I was sitting idle at 20 degrees or so @ 5.5ghz.

rickss69 02-01-2011 07:28 PM

Keep bangin on that XP install...I wanna see a SPI 32M out of your rig. :good:

DrNip 02-02-2011 08:18 AM

Somebody made the comment yesterday for me to try my XP install on my Sata 6 Gp/s ports and I owe them a big thank you. I initially had the HDD I was trying to install XP on in the 1st Sata 3 Gp/s port because it was a Sata II and had my Sata III SDD and HDD plugged into the two Sata 6Gp/s ports. Plugged my HDD into one of those this time and got XP to install and reboot without the error message. PS/2 and USB mouse still doesn't work no matter what but I had my Bluetooth mouse plugged in still by accident and found out that it worked! ROFL

So I loaded everything on the install, went to the garage were it was 5 degrees and ran all my 2D benches just for them to be worse than my Windows 7 runs. I couldn't figure it out, it was cold so I went back in as I wasn't trying to stay out there too long.

I then proceeded to load TaiServer and mission was accomplished. Started up CPUz and noticed my CPU was at 3.4ghz instead of the 4.5ghz I had it at in BIOS. I then realized at that moment that I didn't have Throttlestop running on my XP install during my benches so my CPU was downclocking therefor making my benches suck! WTF! Total noob I tell ya. After my TaiServer run in a minute I will be putting XP back on and going back out in the cold to rerun my benches.

This is a little better. :D

Need better RAM or RAM that can clock higher. I have this 2133MHz RAM but isn't compatible with my mobo. This micro has treated me well but I need an ATX.

Please dont push those crazy volts on air/water. This is the only good chip remaining in OCA, :D. And it has to live to see many more WRs. And yeah agreed, this chip needs an ATX.

DrNip 02-02-2011 09:29 AM

Temps are 5 degrees or so out in the garage. Temps are well within reason.

Guess I never posted the pics of the completed build. Not much more to look at except the MSi N560 GTX-Ti GPU. Also threw a 160GB 3 GB/s laptop HDD above the SDD with my XP install on it for various 3D benching as well as some 2D benching when needed. Also added the black thumbscrews and pci slot covers to clean up the backside.

Wishing I had a better CPU for everyday use. Hella overclocking when it comes to high multi. Had to settle for 4.5ghz at 1.32v. Would have liked 4.75ghz at this voltage. Maybe one day I can snag another one and retire this CPU to strictly benching. Time to do some gaming now. Dead Space just ordered. Snagged it for $26.50 on EBay! Hope ya'll enjoyed another DrNip adventure. :D

Witchdoctor 02-21-2011 10:01 AM

that's some spooky shit :ohcrap:

Turned out nice man, clean work

Neuromancer 02-21-2011 10:22 AM

Looking real good Nip :)

Splave 02-21-2011 10:57 AM

nice man, I like compact builds

ny_driver 02-21-2011 11:06 AM

Looks nice.

DrNip 02-21-2011 11:47 AM

Thanks. Would have loved to gone with the 580 over the 560 but just couldn't talk myself into spending $500 on a gpu again.

DrNip 02-23-2011 05:10 PM

Another tim replacement story for the good. Replaced the tim finally on my 560 gtx and temps went from 91 degrees to 82 degrees max with 30 minutes of Furmark running. That is good seeing I have space issues with less than normal air flow in my case. :D

Neuromancer 02-23-2011 07:28 PM

Excellent. I am worrying about my build going into a case period.. SB and 580 uh.. temps are great by the window in an open bench situation ... in a case let alone a tiny case.. Im sweating it.. but it has to happen before I go house sitting this weekend.

Great setup and temps for that totally wrong structure.lol

DrNip 02-24-2011 06:07 AM

Yeah that was another factor stopping me from purchasing a 570 or 580. Was afraid of the heat they would put off.

marcam923 07-16-2011 04:05 AM

Nip I think we have the same taste. This is soo similar to a customer build I just did it's scary. I will post up a thread for it with pics.

DrNip 07-16-2011 05:49 AM

As usual I can't just stay with a setup. Seems about every 3 months or so I am tossing it up. When I get done benching this Gene-Z mobo I will switch the setup over to it as well as a new case. I love this Silverstone case in this thread but just can't get adequate cooling with it. My 2600k is a 5ghz daily driver but I can't do it with this setup. I couldn't even do 4.5ghz without temps of upper 40's. Stay tuned.

Neuromancer 07-16-2011 08:28 AM

Looking forward to it Nip :)

I ran a case for almost a straight month.

I built a shelf over my desk and have my main rig spread out on it now for the last few :)

I am going through the same thing. I have been going through hardware left and right lately. Got a new setup in the works now, will get a thread started as soon as the case arrives and I can get working on it.

Hopefully I will be finding myself a 5GHZ daily driver :clapping::good:

Alrighty a complete overhaul already. Loved this build but it just wasn't practical for the overclocker in me. I had to keep the overclock around 4.2ghz due to heat.

New Parts are as follows:

Asus Gene-Z
Lian Li PC-Q06 Test Bench w/ M-ATX Tray
Noctua NH-D14
2 - Scythe KAZE MARU 2 High Speed
Lian Li 5.25" Quad Fan Controller
Single Braided Cables

Sorry about the poor pics. All I had was poster board and a desk lamp, lol. I love the 140mm CPU cooler. Don't think I will ever go back to 120mm. Pushes a lot of air and waaaay quieter than a 120mm cooler. Also opted for the Lian Li 5.25" Quad Fan Controller as I have no use for a DVD drive. This device is a quad fan controller as well as holds two SSD drives. That is good seeing that the case only has room for one HDD. Plans of adding another 560 Ti are in the works. As soon as I nail down this overclock I will post. So far at 4.8ghz at only 1.35v! :D

This ended up being way harder to put togther than what I imagined. Trying to cram all them cables in that little box was a bitch. Not to mention this case is one of those designs that everything has to go together in order and right or else you will be stripping it back down to fix your mistake. The 140mm CPU cooler is trippling up as a RAM cooler, Mosfets cooler ontop of of being a CPU cooler. Going to be doing some extensive gaming with this the rest of the year seeing that there are many of game titles dropping this month and on. Also thinking about upgrading to 8 GB's of RAM. :D

A couple of running morning pics.

Bro, what kind of RAM you using - would Dominators fit?

DrNip 08-14-2011 09:38 AM

GSkill 2133 cas 8. They should fit.

Neuromancer 08-14-2011 11:12 AM

If they dont fit, just take off the red fins on top and they will :)

I have the noctua c12- uh D14... it is the 120mm version that uses a 140mm fan (with 120mm hole spacing for hold down)

I also like it a lit, and no need to control fan speed on it it is so quiet at full :)

Nice job Nip. Like the open bench design, everytime I try going back to a case, it lasts a week or so before I get annoyed at the too high temps.

MaadDaawg 08-14-2011 11:27 AM

My problem with cases is once I'm done, it was such a huge pain in the ass I don't feel like doing anything with it :P

That little case did look like it'd be a bitch packing all the wires and such in - you did a great job though

kikicoco1334 08-14-2011 12:28 PM

holy damn bro! that looks sexy as hell!

MaadDaawg 08-14-2011 02:11 PM

yeah, but why didn't you use those sexy flesh colored Noctua fans
