To be honest, I think these top coolers are all about equal. I almost believe it comes down to the mount. I did notice a rather large difference (over 5c) loaded on my E8400 vs. my zalman.

so it almost makes sense for cooler manufacturers to invest more R&D into mounting hardware then to minimise the bad mount effect i guess

DrNip 07-13-2009 03:12 PM

It does have a nice mount.

Kal-EL 07-13-2009 04:03 PM

I hate the THor's Hammer Mount, unless you're previous employee at the WillyWonka Chocolate Factory with iddy biddy hands, you won't get any gorrilla paws in there to screw it down.

MaadDaawg 07-23-2009 01:53 PM

Put two 125cfm Delta's on my Noctua and it brought by cpu temp down 10C. Previoulsy I had one of the Noctua fans and a CM garbage fan on it. Runs in the low 30s which isn't far from water temps.

Well I meant a proper mount on the cpu lol, but you are right. Most coolers mounting SUCKS!! Megahalem is very easy to work with other than the fact one of the holes were off on the 1366 holes. Pissed me off for sure.

Kal-EL 09-22-2009 12:46 AM

This cooler is about a 1000x's easier to mount up than anything I've used before. Such a relief for a quick change type of guy. Shoulda checked this one out from the git go. Thx chuchnit.

Neuromancer will have to fight with the Thor's Hammer mount from here on out, lol.

are you referring to the Megahelams? I've heard nothing but great thing, supposed to be the best cooler out there heh?

Hah, now I know why you sent it to me! Because I specifically said I was saving up for the megahalem :p

Well it is going to be stressed on I7, hope i dont ruptre any heatpipes!!! :p

(hmm really should get another panflo 38mm fan to make a nice push pull setup... )

jk.... Thanks again Kal. Will have Mjolnir back to you safe and sound inside a month :)

side note
Any see that 92mm Coolermaster heatsink with offeset push pull config? Looked really interesting if it has a high fin density the turbulence cause by the design coupled with some 38mm high pressure fans could really make it something

92mm fan size limits it of course... but the design looks interesting..

Yah Chicken_patty, was talkin bout the megaharlem, its groovy :cool1:

I've heard nothing but great things about it, I would love to try one out one day. I wanna get a few more crunchers going in the future, so maybe I'll get a Megahalem for one of those :D

Buckeye 11-12-2009 06:45 AM

Ok I am about ready to pick up one of these for a new round of testing coming soon, so I could use a little advice as I am not a real air cooler guy.

I am looking for a HS that will give me the max cooling possible with air and have the ability to use ducted cold air later on.

This is it

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/96...ml?id=xnhUjsyK

So in reading the description this does not come with a AM3 mount ?
It looks like it will mount up all types including the Core I5

What would be the best fans to use with this ?
I want to run push pull with teh max air flow I can get, so high RPM and CFM.

Chicken Patty 11-12-2009 07:58 AM

You won't be dissapointed with that cooler man. Not sure what fans are best for it, but some deltas should be good. You looked into Deltas?

No not yet, I have no clue really on fans, do you have a link ?

http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g36/...ml?id=WC9wiKvv

How about this one, will it work with that HS ?

Kal-EL 11-12-2009 08:21 AM

You can run just about any fan Bill, If its too large for the fastening clip, bend it, if its still too large, rubber bands work GREAT! I'm running with rubber bands now, sick results. :D

Chicken Patty 11-12-2009 09:38 AM

Rubber bands, tie wraps you name it. However I think they do sell 38mm clips.

That 252 cfm delta should flow pretty effin sick  might give your computer imaginary wings :p

Buckeye 11-12-2009 10:11 AM

HAHA yeah I bet it will. I decided to go with just 1 fan for now to see how it works. With the flow that one has I dont think 2 will be needed, but who knows, besides those fans are not cheap :(

Splave 11-12-2009 10:43 AM

try not to cut your fingers off buckeye, those fans are serious business.

I am very interested on seeing how they perform as my bench rig which I hope to have running sometime end this year/early next year will be at first air cooled with the same setup.

Megahalem has arrived

The Delta fan is a monster, it slices, dices and chops and grinds. It makes as much or more noise as the Cascade does LOL.

The air output of this thing can be felt 3 feet away. I tired to show this in the video but the wind is to strong and the paper just blows stright.

Note that I put a fan guard on it as it only had bare blades with no guards at all and I thought it might be a wise idea to put a guard on it LOL.

Neuromancer 11-19-2009 10:44 AM

LOL nice fan Bill!

I used to put my Nidec Beta V (Industrial 120mm fan) on the desk blowing straight down and play air hockey with it :)

that Delta would probably flip itself over LOL

Chicken Patty 11-19-2009 01:04 PM

so how are the temps buck? nice setup bro, thing looks sickkk!

Kal-EL 11-19-2009 01:53 PM

Buckeye 11-19-2009 01:54 PM

Holy crap that looks like a monster :clapping:

Chicken Patty 11-29-2009 08:07 PM

While i was troubleshooting and re applying TIM on the NB/SB the other day.

I have been troubleshooting for a while now. Having issues again with the GX2. I think it was just a bad PCI-E connector. I changed that and reseated the card and its fine now.
