:ohcrap: so I was the lucky one to get a open-box fubar board from the store (although I bought a new one)

Well I guess RMA is on the way.

You're not gonna get any from me. So far its a POS!!! I cant even get close to 1000 on air. My vanilla one did 1k on air without breaking a sweat.

Dentlord 03-17-2010 12:55 PM

No ram sink, that ram next to the pot is gonna be so freakin cold anyway lol

Crossing my fingers, gonna fire it up after I eat a bite. Hope I have enough ln2 left to go for a decent time :S

No Bud I'm talking about this big fat aluminum one that's stock with the card:

http://www.overclockaholics.com/foru...1&d=1268627886

Was it easy to remove?

GFDuke 03-17-2010 01:18 PM

Every Driver i try to install fails. Whats up with that? ATI

I'm with Jor. It dosnt seem like its taking the voltage. Unfortunately my mm needs batts. So i can't check it atm. Using the OSD in the bench shows that the voltage is stock. Which i believe. I lock right up in 06 at 1000mhz on 1.35. I tried going up as far as 1.45. Nothing. The temps are in range as far as i can see but it could be spiking so quick that the software dosn't have time to read and display it before it freezes up. But honestly i doubt that. Pretty sure we need a hard mod. OC? Is it in the same spot?

Dentlord 03-17-2010 01:42 PM

1300 so far is ok, cross your fingers!

Yeah something fishy I guess 1400/1400 only with all the hard mods on and with the voltage cranked.

Problem is hardmod for this card = void warranty or any online sale for that matter, card will die with ya (will be a good paper weight though). It's very extensive and needs removal of several smds etc...

I take it your voltage is changing with AB?

Dentlord 03-17-2010 02:12 PM

Running great, but my driver god borked in vista and I cant get back IN LOL

I dont have enough ln2 to fuck with it so imma just run 06 05 and 03

NO VOLTAGE CONTROL ON THE FERMI CARDS :ohcrap: :keeporder:

Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so :wtf2:

Dentlord 03-17-2010 02:57 PM

Well Im out of ln2, that started out great and ended up fail

Ran @ 1300/1250 no sweat, but wouldnt go faster with any volts, all the way to 1.6v

All I got was a few hundred point bump in vantage and 03

Splave 03-17-2010 03:03 PM

bwahaha loved the pic dent :) made my shitty night better

atleast you got 1300 out of it rofl, How much voltage did it want for that?
Could it be that the drivers/afterburner or some shit likes vista over 7?
I guess we got pwnd just like the 7.1ghz 670s

"Massman"
~ vgpu = 1.55V; temp = -100°C

I was running 1475MHz GPU untill halfway GT2 when either OCP or OVP was kicking in. With a bit more time (and ln2), I'm sure 1475 will be Vantage stable ... and then it's only 25MHz away from 1500 .

Also did 105k 03 with safety clocks (1400/1250) ... ran GT4 without any LN2 left ... card warmed up to -80°C

Maybe we are running them too cold?

I was kinda thinking that myself, the colder I got it, the more problems I seemed to have. It ran best right at the first when I was cooling it down still. Once everything got nice and frozen, it became almost impossible to run.

Splave 03-17-2010 03:51 PM

intersting,

Our very own steponz came through with some great intel, he spoke to MSI and they said you need 1.5.1 afterburner which is unavailable at the moments. Its a known bios issue with the current one lol they didnt put that on the box did they ;)

Dent you sure you are getting the voltages to change, or maybe you just have a great clocker. Would you mind dumping your card bios and I can compare it to mine?

Hondacity 03-17-2010 04:01 PM

woot i love this thread :D

oca's best :D

sorry i can't shut my pie hole...

I am very sure, had the dmm hooked up to vgpu measure the entire time, dmm reflected exactly what I set in AB every time (with slight overvoltage as mentioned earlier)

I cant dump the bios right now, the card is swimming in melt-off lol

Yeah I sent a gpu-z Ss to compare BIOSes, maybe you got one with new bios already...

Last I read, vcore control was a given on the 470 and 480.

Source Rom?

Not this Rom, not sure bout fermi. I am sure that the lightning sucks with this AB and its current bios. Prepped it properly, got ABE installed and no voltage control.
Still pushed thru a vantage at 1250 on the core with 1.14v so if I ever get votage control, this card looks promising. Pics are the only thing I got out of the mini-session, que sera.

Here is my bios version according to gpu-z
http://overclockaholics.com/forums/a...1&d=1268882133

Any chance it would be ok to fire it up with an empty pot long enough to save the bios??

RomDominance 03-17-2010 05:19 PM

honda
I use my own sync's, they allow me to insulate better. Thanks.

Jor-El 03-17-2010 05:23 PM

Very nice pics RomDom! Man that is a lot of eraser, how many per card?

So far the results are only with the card scaling with cold. Can't wait to see it scaling with cold & Voltages.

RomDominance 03-17-2010 05:49 PM

Me too! and thanks Jor. I used three blocks of eraser per side. I don't usually insulate all the way out, but I figured this card would be very cold for longer than usual bench times, so wth. Good news is no cb at -150, so with some V she should perform well. btw did you get my response that I was in Tucson?

OMG 3 blocks perside?

I used 2 blocks on my mobo... damn I gotta learn how to insulate i guess :ohcrap:

Then again my pot don even get frosty... you are in a desert arent you? Why the hell you frosting at all? Its 30% humidity here I got no frost with DIce.....

Hondacity 03-17-2010 08:43 PM

last time i insulated my board i used like 12 erasers ..the big ones...LOL

Holy crap!! what you do the entire thing both sides? Or did you not knead the eraser and just push the blocks on?

I must misunderstand what the eraser is doing if I used so little (then again.. after seeing the exorbitant lengths some of these guys go to with paper towels and all that) well I ain't been to -170C yet so cant compare... but with DIce.. it just dont get that frosty...and minimal insulation is needed. I had to expose a metal object cooled to a DIce temps to see any frost at all.. hell even my styrofoam cup siting on the desk full of DIce powder got only a catina of frost on it and I could still grab it with my barehand.. not a white styrofoam either.. a thin one...

Hondacity 03-17-2010 08:57 PM

i fear water....LOL

i had problems before...it won't happen again :D

i make sure i compress the eraser onto the board...but really its not needed but...heck if it can be done...8hrs is nothing...i' just double everything :)

FACE 03-17-2010 11:35 PM

Yeah, I use a shit-ton of eraser as well. Better safe than sorry, even under dice.

Dentlord 03-18-2010 01:54 AM

I had never used ln2 on a card before yesterday and holy CRAP the whole thing was solid ice when I was done

I will definitely add some more eraser before next time, high humidity here is a killer.

BTW I have the bios from my card saved, if anyone wants to check it out pm me.

Splave 03-18-2010 03:17 AM

yeah in NY was epic frost too, had about 1/2 inch of ice on the backside in half an hour at -160 lol

rom thats probably the cleanest mount job I have ever seen, kudos.

Dentlord 03-18-2010 03:41 AM

Imma fill up the dewar today and try again with the lightning. This time Ill insulate better and keep it around -100c and see if it likes it warmer.

Dentlord 03-18-2010 09:16 AM

This thing is going back to the egg, fuck this massive POS card in its over-hyped bunghole

Kal-EL 03-18-2010 09:20 AM

Well thats just sucks, has no one had good results with this highly hyped card?
