DOM 02-07-2012 12:37 PM

how are the psu's set up ?

are you running all 4 cards on one psu ?

punx223 02-07-2012 12:43 PM

also like DOM asked are you loading the 5V and 3.3V on both PSUS?

MaadDaawg 02-07-2012 12:57 PM

ummm.. I'm using 1 PSU for the board, CPU, DIMMs and 1 580 - using the second for the remaining 3 580s, the water pump, and the rad fans. Using that little dohinky in the first pic to combine the PSUs... only 1 black and 1 green wire that jumps to the second one so I doubt if I'm using the 3.3 and 5v but :Dizzy:

Anyway, WD and the Punxster were right... dammit. Turned off the lanes of the 3 cards being powered by the second PSU and started it up, just set it for gamers oc to keep it quick, and it booted right up to 4700.

Is there another way to jump the two PSUs together that works better? Thinking I may need to take the Corsair AX1200 out of the wc gamer and use that instead. Maybe 3 PSUs ?? rofl

Just a thought...
One of the six pin PCI connectors from PSU 1 goes into the mobo to power the PCIe lanes. If I were to replace that with a six pin from PSU2 (which currenlty is connected to the 3x580s and used PSU1 to power two cards, would that give me a more even load?

hook a spare Hdd or 2 and a fan or 2 to the second psu an try again

KAL Had same issue awhile back.... (shit many years now) and we did that and all was well after :)

punx223 02-07-2012 01:09 PM

basically what happens is without proper crossloading the psu 12V rails will freak out and either shut off or just get buggier than a 2 dollar whore in hollywood

MaadDaawg 02-07-2012 01:11 PM

Interesting thought.

Add more load to PSU 2? Worth a try, and easier than disassembling the wc gamer and swapping PSUs around :P

thanks bro :)

I'll let you know what develops :D

rofl, I have more spare hdds than I do spare change rofl but it's time to get ready for the wife coming home for dinner... gotta keep the priorities yada yada yada :D

Thinking of putting a 230mm fan on top of the cards and maybe a couple in front of the cards, then I'll plug in a couple hdds off to the side. I thought fans were 12volt too :Dizzy: Do the adapters from molex to 3 pin knock down the voltage? Prolly shouldn't use the big delta's huh

Okay, added 2 92mm fans onto the 5v rail of PSU2 - had to help them start turning but they kept going on their own after than :)

Just let it boot into Gamers OC which I had set last night and it booted up on the first attempt. Nothing earth shattering at ~4700mhz, but better than it would do yesterday. Shitty RAM timings too on this one... default gamer oc I guess? Set the cards up to 845 and ran a vantage test (this time with with the CPU handling the Physx)

Hard to get a good screeny cause in this mode effing Speettrap is still on so it bounces from 1200 up to 4700. Caught it the fastest I could but forgot to drop down the box to show the 4 GPUs.

Next test will be full extreme oc, and we'll see what happens. May still need to balance the load between the PSUs better :D
