Finally got water to work, temporarily :p

Hey,
I gave water a go for the 2nd time over Christmas, since i received some new stuff, including an EX58-UD5 with waterblocks, no heatsink, so i didn't really have a choice.
Here my loop (will ad pictures later)
EK DCP 4 >> MCR320 >> EK UD5 NB block >> EK HF >> EK UD5 mosfet block >> XSPC bay res
After some leak issues, finally sorted it all out
Am currently folding at 4.2 @ 1.28v, temps are around 70 on cpu, 60 on NB.
Want to get them lower obviously.
However, i used tapwater, which apparently is a big no no
So, am having to redo my loop...
Which isn't a bad thing I suppose, means I can use standard tubing (at the moment, am using varying colours, brands and sizes :P)
And while I'm at it possibly get new fans for my rad, am currently using a ZM-F3, Scythe S Flex 1600rpm, Thermalright 1600rpm.
Just wondering, what would you guys recommend to get the temps down?
Will be running distilled water probably, with maybe a bit of pt nuke or something similar (quite a few guys on BTUK have reported no problems just running straight tapwater which has confused me no end)
Thanks

use some .999 silver, your temps are super high. Think you need faster fans or you have air in your blocks.

Oh, btw, thats while folding.
And yeah, I was thinking of faster fans, just not sure what ones....

Splave 01-15-2011 12:21 PM

is this 980x?

Hondacity 01-15-2011 12:22 PM

tapwater is ok for 1-3mo...after that many things could be multiplying :))

nb temps should be around 40+

cpu temps 60+...your cpu could be leaky...or just not mounted perfectly...

no need for faster fans..try remounting your waterblock...

i hope you're using clamps..they're your bestfriend :D

GeorgeStorm 01-15-2011 12:29 PM

Sorry, once again, no information
Tis a 920 (with HT)
Mm, not sure what to do :/
Obviously when I rebuild the loop will reseat the block etc, but it doesn't really explain the high NB temps aswell.
And yes honda, I'm using clamps :)
Although hopefully i won't have to with my new tubing, as i will be using 7/16 over 1/2 barbs.

my 920 was also hot on water there not like 980x

kikicoco1334 01-15-2011 06:01 PM

yeah cuz the 980x are 32 nms vs your 65nm 920s
my 970 which is a 32nm chip runs around 30C now :D

i am using water on my 775 bench setup right now
it's got a swiftech mcp655 pump with the 120mm and a stander d-tech waterblock and it's running at high 52 and low 36 on super pi 32
oh and this is with no thermal on it at all :rofl

How I used to do it...stoneage but effective...circulating ice water.
