Chipset compare 790FX vs 790GX
Hi all,
i know a few facts about comparing theese two chipsets such as integrated GPU and such and that FX is better for OC... But i wonder... How much is the GX worse ? Currently i see a great deal for a DFI LP 790GX board and im not sure if to grab it... Ill be doing LN2 on that setup for sure... what do you think ? |
Personally if you want my opinion I would go with this mobo if you are going the AMD route.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128377 It might cost you a lil more but it is worth it. I stated awhile back to a member here that the FX's are the better mobo over the GX's, I don't think he believed me though. :D |
Interesting... is Gigabyte actually better than DFI ? Ive had a few AMD DFI boards over the years (754/939) and DFI was always good on AMD...

I have no personal time on the mobo but alot of guys are using it including chew* and lovin it. It will be the mobo I go with.

DFI last I saw was not a very good board for AMD. Overheating chipsets and poor performance per clock was the real tradeoffs.
GB is highly recommended, not personally, but lots of top spots at the bot are running them. |
ask bill about taht one... hes used it.... its very nice

Thanx guys, nice find, i didnt know that GB is that good... I have not been in AMD since 939 days...

This machine is GA_MA790FXT-UD5P.
With 955. No better board around right now 2 ounce copper ground plane internally. Use the tuning utility to overclock on the fly, Not from the BIOS. You'll regret buying another one. |

No regrets with my MSI 790FX-GD70.
It's been a fun one to get into AM3 with and the BIOS has enough options to allow for some serious tweaking but not so much that it will overwhelm you. Runs cool and so far, no problems to note except that the RAM slots closest to the CPU fan can be a tight fit because of how close they are to it. That's the only real con I can think of. The LED readout visible with the sidecover off or through a windowed case is nice (POST codes and CPU temps once the system is booted), the CMOS reset button is a plus and the OC dial really works. Of course you can't go wrong with Ol' Bud's suggestion either. Both boards are great performers and have results to back it up wiith. I guess the only real thing is what you want and how much to spend. |
Well i think MSI is a bit overpriced so when i upgrade ill stick with Gigabyte...
Thanx for the advice guys :good: |
