Which OS to bench with?

Nice info there, thanks for posting this.

For me tho and I tend to go by the beat of a different drummer, I prefer to only use Win7 for everything. Yes I know I go outside the realm of hardcore benchers who flip OS's for every single thing.

Just do a sexa-boot or a hydra-boot, you know its coming :D

Neuromancer 12-14-2009 11:37 AM

At last Vinidcation for Vista! MWAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

Good read Kal .......

Just need some new OS's now ......

just have XP32, V64 and 764 ......

need some of that server OS action

Kal-EL 12-15-2009 03:02 PM

I've had a mixed bag of results different from other's around town on which os benched better. I wouldn't take this as a hard-fast rule on which os to bench with but more of a guide. Personally, I think it's best to have 8 operating systems on a multi-boot to see for yourself.

Soon, I'll have all these operating systems installed and updated as any regular os would be and bench it from that perspective.

Neuromancer 12-15-2009 03:09 PM

8 OSes? Thought you were just hexabooting?

You dropping server 2k3 and 2k8 R2 in the mix now?

DrNip 12-15-2009 04:26 PM

I see ya Vista 32 boy I see ya!

Neuromancer 12-15-2009 05:10 PM

Yah I think my new build is getting WinFLP and V32 installed. Which is good cuz I hate Windows 7 LOL I KNEW it felt bloated and slow since RC.

Witchdoctor 12-16-2009 02:10 AM

Just the opposite here .. Lovin win 7 but like any OS needs leaned up to the bare
essentials......

I have been using XP32 for 2D AM, 01, 03, 05

06, PCM05 & Vantage on win 7 .....

But am rethinking how I approach this now

Kal it will be brutal updating drivers on 8 OS's .........:Dizzy:

DrNip 12-16-2009 03:15 AM

Yeah it looks as though you would be better off with XP on 2D's still and Vista 32 on 3D's. I can't believe XP came in last on Aquamark.

Neuromancer 12-16-2009 04:03 AM

Yah I always thought AM3 was all about XP too. I guess the enhanced 3d engine in Vista really makes up the difference though

I'm used to it already, been running multi-boots since UT2004 days. (Which ran way faster/smoother in XP64)

Witchdoctor 12-16-2009 07:20 AM

LOL loved that game

"Killing Spree"

kikicoco1334 12-20-2009 09:07 PM

so......
what is good?
i am really confused right now
now i am doing super pi is that mean v64 is the way to go?
on some of the tests like 3dmark05 the 32 bit os is higher than it's 64 os, but if i got like 4+GB of ram 32bit os is not gonna read then how is that gonna be higher than 64?
:Dizzy::Dizzy::Dizzy::Dizzy::Dizzy:
i am running 7-64 super pi at 8min 28sec
is that gonna be higher if i swich to v-64?

Neuromancer 12-21-2009 07:15 AM

32bit OSes tend to clock a bit higher than 64 bit because you are not stressing a CPU as hard.

XP is this Superpi choice, although you are talking less than a tenth of second improvement. So it is up to you what OS you want to use. If you are trying to get every last ounce of performance, run a multi boot setup :)
