A new package in the mail!!

Got a few new toys to play with:clapping::cool3:

Going to do some air testing tonight and get some vantage scores on the table (I have ZERO vantage points @ the bot:blush:). Gonne use the new cat 9.12's that boost scores by quite a bit.

Will update as I go along :D

You Package guys..You remind me..of me!!!

I got a package today too.. Will try it out Friday....

Can't push em like you can with the H20 rig but it should be fun just the same!!:clapping:

Got a unexpected XFX 5970 Black..You think it will work with a HIS 5970 since it has this special voltage tweak????Will the MSI AB work with the two crossed up?

RomDominance 12-16-2009 04:23 PM

Should work ok LS....I rigged up my second Saphire OC edition 5970 today....promptly picked up a 38k in vantage...B E A utiful !

Congrats Karmamigo, enjoy buddy!

Kal-EL 12-16-2009 04:38 PM

Uh oh, is that the sound of a can of whooopasss opening??????????????

Thanks..wasn't expecting this or i wouldn't have purchased the HIS...You don't think the special voltage tool for the Black means it won't work with the AB???

I guess i will find out Friday when i get some time off..I am a Electrician for the Catholic Diocese and since it is Christmas if you stood still long enough i would put lights on you...:)
Speaking of Electrician's, I wired in a portable a/c that blows coldddd right on my GPU's when I drop the sides down...Can't wait to see if it helps...

I looked at your Vantage run..Not sure how you clock vantage that high..You have a talent my friend!!!! SWEET RUN!!!!

N, are you sure you don't want to come to that benching party????:smackbum:

RomDominance 12-16-2009 06:47 PM

Single stage my freind, -45c is good times. Oh and lots of voltage to my 5970's, they are the oc version so they will clock to a sweet 1k on their cores,....helps too! gl bud:good:

Neuromancer 12-16-2009 07:11 PM

Vantage is ALOT easier than 3d06 :)

DrNip 12-17-2009 01:13 AM

Boy you don't discriminate. Every card is of a different manufacturer!!! HAHA.

Chicken Patty 12-17-2009 02:17 AM

you going to run them in tri fire, or seperately? I'm hoping you are running them in tri fire :D

Witchdoctor 12-17-2009 03:56 AM

I would think both .single CF and Tri fire

Nice ...... I have one hoping for some CF action in the future

That would be 4 in total? didn't review one in the hole ???

Chicken Patty 12-17-2009 04:35 AM

Should be nice to see how they scale single, C/F, and Trifire :D

does your board have 4 PCI-E slots?

Well, I purchased the HIS..The rest were sent...Kind of a take this and try it thing....

I am so busy at work that I haven't taken the 5870 out yet...Got some time off this weekend.....maybe???

Splave 12-17-2009 06:12 AM

awesome! enjoy them, once you hit 1000/1300 it takes quite some cpu horsepower
I have 2x VaporX sapphires and have 2 more 5870s comming monday on the 4way board

karmakazi 12-17-2009 11:26 AM

minor update

messed around a little today... this is a weak fan on my TRUE. Maybe later tonight I hook up my dryer tube to the outside air w/ a 220CFM delta (its about -5°C here right now).

Cold air REALLY Helps.. get them VDDC temps down and crank those volts up :)

Ugh looks like 0 scaling in AM3 :(

Interesting to see very little CPU bottlenecking to with tri fire. 2% gain with a ~8% CPU increase? Sweet

I was posting over at OCF about people incorrectly using hte teerm CPU bottleneck. glad to see I was right

(looking at 295 reviews, I am starting to think that like Intel IGPs nVidia SLI is very CPU limited, more so than the performance would suggest)

karmakazi 12-17-2009 01:51 PM

Yeah the cold air is for the processor though. I need to run the full gamut of benches. prolly do that tomorrow. Im happy with the 950 so far. its clocking decent on the 24x multi which is surprising...

aquamark3 has never scaled with multiple cards (usually just a VERY small gain over single card).

also vantage is almost never cpu bottlenecked, it has nothing to do with 1 2 or 4 cards really. cpu plays a small part in that bench

You can only run 2 of the 5970's which would be quadfire since there is 2 GPU's per card....I saw somewhere a guy was saying he was running 3 5970's but i don't believe that is possible...They don't have the bridge hook up's for that....I could be wrong????

Didn't you get 5870's though?

lakeside2189 12-17-2009 06:36 PM

No, I had the 5870's but just got the 5970's.....I can see how this would be confusing...sorry...I added my package that i received today with K's....my fault...:Dizzy:

Oh ok, then in that case you can only run the two cards (Quad Fire) I dont' believe about that guy running all three neither.

Not unless they hack the driver.

Chicken Patty 12-18-2009 08:28 AM

That would be Fun. :D

karmakazi 12-18-2009 10:29 AM

Just hooked up the cold air tube we will see what gains that brings for the 950! :D

I seem to recall reading something about more than 4 GPUs being possible in 7... I will have to look around for it though. Might be something "in schedule"

# of cards is driver limited not OS limited. even if you "hacked it" to allow more it probably would scale really bad

karmakazi 12-18-2009 01:24 PM

Did a little more aquamarking
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8061/324ks.jpg

Small Bump in cpu & tightened mems

Bump in cpu & applied some tweaks

Kal-EL 12-18-2009 01:50 PM

Nice, we shoulda did Aquamark today too, dammit, forgot about that one, lol.
I'll get the 4-way up and running.

karmakazi 12-19-2009 08:40 AM

aquamark is fast becoming one of my favorite benches.

You can push every system component to the absolute limits and it will still run. Bench responds to tweaking of all kinds. You can squeeze points out almost anywhere

Really? Had much luck with 3/4way SLI in XP? heehee

Yes the limitation is handled by drivers, but it is based on OS by decision of operating system. You will probably people to hacdk it for Vista or even XP, but first it will be available as an option with the Windows 7 drivers :) Happy now?

Wasn't it easier to just say it as I originally did?

karmakazi 12-19-2009 10:59 AM

Well XP shouldnt be your Os of choice even if your using only 2 cards much less 3, 4 and above. What I meant was your OS can support 1000 gpu's but if the drivers dont support it... whats the point. And I was additionally replying to the "hacked drivers" statement: because even if you change some parameter in the driver to allow 5 cards, you probably wouldnt see any scaling from the 5th card, since the rest of the driver code isnt optimized to use it.

Anyways back on topic I updated my vantage score a bit:

Kal-EL 12-19-2009 12:46 PM

Nice! btw, looksl like someone's been submitting gulftown runs at the orb (50K Vantage)
How'd you break 300k in AQ3 at those speeds????????????

Chicken Patty 12-19-2009 07:34 PM

Good runs bro :toast:

karmakazi 12-20-2009 10:17 AM

AQ3 is very sensitive, so ram timings/subtimings & bandwidth play a role as well as of course just raw mhz. Im still bottlenecked by my cpu here, so every little increase in speed on the processor will bump the score up. Never run AQ3 in vista its awful :)

For some reason I can't get aquamark to run in W7 :(

Gutterz 12-20-2009 11:57 AM

u need the same patch for Win7 as u do Vista. I wouldnt bother cause it runs like crap just like in Vista an XP 64 in my experience, XP 32 all the way for that Bench

Thanks. Guess I won't even bother then.

You dont want to use vista thats for sure. You also dont want to use ANY 64 bit OS. XP is ok for it....but 7 32bit is way better ;)

Also you dont need to run any patch. Just navigate to the aquamark directory, and delete the file "Direcpll.dll" and you good to go.

Gutterz 12-21-2009 05:59 AM

Thanks for the heads up. I havent tried 32 bit 7, sorry for being misleading.
How much better in win7 does it run? Looks like Im doing an install soon.

Chicken Patty 12-21-2009 06:52 AM

Thanks guys. I'll give it another go when I RMA the board. For now I'm down from any benching.
