Internet Explorer 8 Available

Microsoft Corp. announced the availability of Windows Internet Explorer 8, the new Web browser that offers the best solution for how people use the Web today. It can be downloaded in 25 languages at http://www.microsoft.com/ie8 starting at noon EDT on March 19. Internet Explorer 8 is easier to use, faster and offers leading-edge security features in direct response to people's increasing concerns about online safety. A new study commissioned by Microsoft and the National Cyber Security Alliance and conducted by Harris Interactive Inc. shows that 91 percent of adults in the U.S. are concerned about online threats in the current economic climate, and 78 percent are more likely to choose a Web browser with built-in security than they were two years ago.

"Customers have made clear what they want in a Web browser -- safety, speed and greater ease of use," said Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. "With Internet Explorer 8, we are delivering a browser that gets people to the information they need, fast, and provides protection that no other browser can match."

Quick somebody d/l it and go run that new browser benchmark :p

DrNip 03-19-2009 05:41 AM

I used the latest version but wasn't satisfied overall with it. There were some parts of it I liked but guess I am a FireFox junky now.

Chuchnit 03-19-2009 05:42 AM

I can't get used to FF. I guess I should play around and tweak it a lil.

DrNip 03-19-2009 05:47 AM

I like how FireFox is an open source and there are many of tweaks and twists you can download for it whether it is an application or theme change.

Im starting to hate FF, slowly moving over to Opera and Chrome.

I'm using IE8 now.....no problems so far, but I'm not using all the new features like the web slice gallery or suggested sites.

Chuchnit 03-22-2009 05:30 PM

Well I've been playing around with opera the past few days and love it. I also noticed d/l speeds are lots faster with opera than IE7. I've tried on the same computer from the same link with both browsers and Opera gives me faster transfer speeds. IDK??

No crashing and shit Steve? I tried the beta for a bit and it would always hang and crash on me. I'll give this a shot soon on a new build.

I am definitely not a fan of ie8. Microsoft security is a joke, and gives users a false sense of security. Most malware writers gear their software to circumvent whatever Microsoft does for security and turn it into an exploit.

That said, alternate browsers like Opera, FF, or Safari may not be as feature rich, but I always push them in my shop over IE. Someone needs to strip down IE and make a handy "IE Classic" like they did with media player. I'd use that.

Whoever is king will be the target of the most malware writers......
As soon as anyone else passes up Microsoft they will find themselves the target of the malware writers.

No crashes or hanging up or any problems at all.
Beta IS beta...I would expect bugs in anything beta.

FACE 03-24-2009 12:45 AM

Well yeah, your right. But no other browser will ever pass IE simply because it will always come with Windows, and most people are lazy.

If windows came with more than one browser out of the box, then I might stop crying like a skinned-knee school girl.... sign13
