This is one of the reasons I'm picking up a Venom pot. :D
The other is better temps. ;) |
Have you looked at... instead of Venom...

I'm guessing NO COLD BUG = Venom ;) |

You been brushing up on your gocart skills? :taunt: |

I'm gonna drop like 200 lbs before the next xs event and we'll see who passes whom erm who :P |

After watching those guys work with the Venom in Vegas, perfect for Clarkbar. |

Which would be the better choice for me, I have both i7 and i5 configs. Is the venom even usable on i7 without smashing your head through a wall?

Thanx so much for this Kal! Were you watching me give someone a hard time about this on livestream by chance?
The 1156 mounting on the brackets for both venom and f1 are the same and its really simple, its just a square pattern rotated off center. Apparently is not so visible and easy to do for some guys who we wont mention... Kal I would be honored if you could make a post like this in my support forum for some of the nubs on my team could you? :D :D :D |

Hummm nice I'll need to check back here soon, but why do we have to use irregular bolt patterns?
|
I imagine because there are only so many holes you can place in that small area that are threaded and large enough to hold the screws.
Kal I use this thread daily lol, I might just have to print out the picture. Would you sign it on your hands for me? |
:Hi: Sure! :morpheus:
|
Would have never imagined that some OC doode would have a problem with ramming the threaded rods through the mobo to get the pot down no matter how aligned these may be. I guess I was wrong! :keeporder:
|
You mean we aren't supposed to drill mount holes in the board? :ohcrap:
:taunt: |
Does this look right (use 4 closest top holes to a square)?

JOR i think you want it like this or flipped

I just used Kal's guide to use irregular holes on the backplate and on top I used the straight rectangle closest to the center. |
I think Those are for s775. The ones Highlighted in red in the pic are the ones to use. :Hi:
|
I see them now thanks!
|
sorry! I meant depends on how you have the backplate mounted, pic could be used upside down as well. You have the top on the pot correct :) should have said look at the red dots
|

The backplate is mounted like the guide (red dots you made) but top should go on the red dots too right? I did that and pot looks a little bit shifted to the angle. Or should I keep the backplate as the guide (red dots) and the top plate like I placed mine (using 775 inner rectangle - closest to center)? |
pot will be on center but a little twisted, both should be red dots
|
Why does it matter what holes you use on the top? I mean as long as the studs fit throught the mobo holes who cares what ones you use on the top mount?

The rods are quite flexable. You could actually use the s775 holes in the top on a 1366 setup without any problems. I do have OCD though so I use the right holes. I would have more OCD with a crooked pot though.
|
I like 1156 holes as there is a bit more room for the insulation
|
Noob
I'm feeling a total noob:owned: like I've never done this a thousand times before...
I can't seem to find a way to mount this thing, my old pot was so much easier... I've tried mounting it 8 times now with insulation, without insulation, different holes on the plate, etc, but all I get is this less then sub-par mount: http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/3658/img0170rg.jpg http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/5532/img0169aa.jpg I'm really at loss here and don't know what to try next. EDIT: What's the amount of pressure you guys using? I'm stopping as soon as both of the plastic stoppers touch each other but I suspect this isn't enough... |
I almost bottom the springs out, been made fun of for that but never had an issue and consistant temps. I think you need a little bit more time and heat the pot up to the 40s or 50s and slightly twist the pot to get a nice spread.
|
^^^
I tried this a couple times now, and it makes for a great mount! Fire it up with an empty pot and get the cpu warmed up for a bit, give 'er a twist back and forth and shut down till cooled off. If you are touching the plastic stoppers together in the spring that should be plenty tight |
Easiest way is to slob on the tim to the cpu h/s and drag it around in a square, run the system without any cold in it till the pot warms up to about 40c twist her a couple times to make sure there are no pockets, bolt down the springs just a weee bit more then get cold.
|
I had a bad mount my first time with the 670 and I couldnt even reach the -165 coldbug with a stuffed full pot.
Today I had a fantastic mount and temps were so easy to control, got some much better scores out of it. wprimes at 6010 and pifast at 6360 |
somejor needs to transfer teams...
bwahahhaha |
The yellow sun will give him the strength.
In regards to mount pressure, personally I dont wrench these latest chips down very much at all. My gut tells me it effects the cbb temp. |
you don't need to put alot of weight on the springs....you just want to make the pot stable...so when it freezes your mount will be good even with the heat....
|
heard that spraying the inside of the pot with water and getting a nice ice layer helps control temps anyone tried it?
