Gulftown Overclocking/Performance Thread

1 Attachment(s)
Lets keep this thread on track for all things and benchmarks run with Core i7 Gulftown Chips. Please note your chip specs in detail when posting, include screenshots as well.

I'll start out with all 4.5ghz runs using a Corsair H50 Cooler
980x Q3QP
E759
Windows XP SP3 vanilla.
GTX1 triple channel
wprime32m1024m: 3.624s + 112.077s
Attachment 1749

Kal-EL 03-12-2010 09:52 PM

Lets keep updating our initial posts with benchmarks @ 4.5ghz, followed by ballz out sessions. Minimize the chatter, bumps are fine and will be merged as necessary.

lakeside2189 03-21-2010 06:53 AM

Staying around 4.56 I did a primew32 run with the 1866 ram jacked to 2033....

This is embarrassing with you sub cold brothers but my best with the 975 was 5.450 sec with wprime32 on water....
This 287 batch chip is a beast....I can actually run 4.6++++ at under 1.40 cpu....

I saw this chip has a max of 1.40 compared to the 975 at 1.55.....
What is really my safe zone with cpu,PLL,QPI, Dram volts...

3.995 at wprime32 from this paranoid non-benching wipe just shows the power of the chip....

OS win 7 64
water cooled(see my WC in sig)
Batch # 3003B287
MB-Asus P6T7

My thoughts are this sucker runs extremely cool and is waiting for me to release the Hounds

Cooling - SS ~ -50C
Batch # - 3003A957
MOBO - Classified E760

Just my first few hours of testing, this thing is a beastly cpu but volts are high compared to the others here, this batch may be a dog.

On ln2 for the first time:
CBB: -135c
CB: -170c

Was running great up to 1.65vcc, but then whenever I tried to set more voltage, it would freeze. I think had I been able to go 1.75v+ it would scream!

I'll have to do some @ 4.5hz i guess.
Moving my info here so we can keep it and find it without searching 3 different threads. I'll make a ss of my voltages for this thread for reference also.
This is the not chitchat thread right? lol

Batch# B287
Drewmeister Phase SS
classy 759
dominator GT's
Win 7 64 on Vantage
Tiny XP 32 on prime
Tiny 7 32 on pifast (will be changing to Xp 32)

Kal-EL 03-21-2010 08:34 AM

Yes, very very good when compared to my ES chip, at similar speeds I would need about 1.62 - 1.64 volts @ -96c. :good:

Jor-El 03-28-2010 03:40 PM

Sup results guys can't wait to put my hands on one!

Neuromancer 03-28-2010 03:40 PM

Holy hex attack! very nice. God.. imma get all these cards modded and DIce/LN2d on my 920 and get smacked around arent I?

Splave 03-29-2010 10:47 AM

mine is still on BO, Got a email from tiger that my shipment was sent......they sent the free game and no CPU yet lol

RomDominance 03-29-2010 12:18 PM

Same here Splig, but now the cpu shows "in process" on my td account info.
Should go out tomorrow and they upped it to overnight for me, so possibly wednesday is the day the Empire destroys the bot system, finally.:wt:

ps I will clean up these threads when the results start flowing Kal, sorry.

Patch 03-29-2010 02:07 PM

I just noticed this thread and should have posted here earlier.

980x Q3FE ES A4 DEAD AT 1.75v after only a few hours.
LN2
-160 no CB yet, CBB unknown - no chance to test
Only benched Vantage, no 2D testing yet
Classified 4way
Win 7
Crossfired 5870's (water+air)

CPUZ 1.54 kept freezing with more than one tab open. Any others with that problem?

Only benched Vantage under cold.

36,734 crossfired 5870's

New retail CPU on the way to make sure it isn't the mobo that's dead

Assassin48 03-29-2010 02:09 PM

want to send me that dead 980x :D

Sorry to hear that patch, if you need a 1366 cpu just hit me up i got a spare one you can use to test it out.

Hondacity 03-29-2010 02:26 PM

what was the vtt patch? those cpu's aren't good above 1.55v vtt...

I don't remember exactly, but I think it may have been close to that as I was pushing uncore a bit. Hmm....methinks I've been treating these 32 nm's too much like Bloomfield and been a bit too cavalier with some voltages. Lost a Clarkie a few weeks ago and thought it was a fluke.

Maybe......got it as part of a hardware trade with 3rd parties from Taiwan involved.

Hondacity 03-29-2010 04:35 PM

anyways watch the vtt its been the culprit for some gt deaths..

Sry for you loss bro,

Patch, if you can swing some additional voltage details, that'd be great brother so we can keep an eye out for similar occurrances

Patch 03-30-2010 03:59 PM

Got my new CPU today and Classy 4way works fine - so it verifies the dead CPU. :(

Must have been VTT. I reviewed my memory of voltages when looking at BIOS and nothing was close to out of line except for VTT.

The VTT "vid" on this retail chip is 1.25v. 100mv more than I assumed.

I was giving the dead 980x a VTT of 1.65v. Ignorance can be deadly, I guess.

Nobody's fault but my own.

I'm gonna go slow and post some info on this retail chip later.

After a rough start with the new weapon this morning, the battle goes well for the Alliance. The Romulan contingent has penetrated deep into the bot system and struck at the very core of the enemy. Jolan'Tru Centurions!

This morning when the 980x arrived I was very pleasantly surprised that it booted at 4.8 at just 1.475vc and 1.4vtt. I was elated when it went all the way up to 5.3 at that voltage and wprimed 32m. It was then that I discovered that this extremely efficient chip's cb is at -116c. Then the news got worse, the chip's cbb was -61c. FRACK!!! Needless to say, a 2.95s wp32 is all she has in her at 5.45Mhz.

Then the pot comes off, and the admiral goes on sebaticle to gather his thoughts and temper. I re-attacked it for 3d three hours later with surprisingly stellar results. Check this shit out. Oh and none of its been submitted. Its been saved for your counter offensive this weekend. Buwahahaha!!!:gun5:

Edit for Kal: Batch # 3003 B 320 Costa Rica, not sure whether I love it our loath it...guess I need to love on her a bit more to decide

xmp profiles of tripple chan sticks....required 1.65v for the vtt... these should never be applied to the 32nm chips......corsair and kingstons...have these settings...and its for the 45nm..but even the 45nm's are close to dying coz of 1.65v....

xmp profiles for the dual channel sticks require less...

have fun...with the new cpu...what batch ?

Yeah I know! He has been preaching the VTT rule again and again! Thanks man I know now not to set it over 1.5V.

Hondacity 03-31-2010 07:25 AM

the 45nm chips..ummm you can use 1.65v for benching...for high bclks..and high ddr3 speeds...too much..will only hurt imc

some 45nm chips can ONLY take 1.55 ****************************** encrypted*****

Splave 03-31-2010 07:37 AM

alright I will keep it under 2v, understood ;)

Nice results RomDom! Now you need a no-cold-bug cpu.

karmakazi 03-31-2010 10:10 AM

Patch: a real shame to hear your ES died :( Thats another rule with the early 32nm silicon, vantage and wprime at high clocks/volts is much more deadly than 2d or "non cpu" intensive 3d. I hope your retail is a winner!

kikicoco1334 03-31-2010 07:48 PM

omg this a sweet chip!
it's faster then what i thought!

lakeside2189 04-01-2010 05:09 PM

at 4.500 with the 10.3 which seem to be much better..Really shows in 06.....
This is a beasty chip...stuck with 25 multi until tom when new board arrives...
Check out the cpu score in Vantage...Beat my 975 by 15000 points at 4.550...

http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...2189/23189.png

I work for the Catholic Diocese and will be all over for Easter on Sat and Sun so posted a few scores....My best ever single card run and only at 4.50..Havent tried anything higher yet...Mostly new chip paranoid, but i will get over it!!!!

Nice clock tweaking Jimmy ;)

Neuromancer 04-01-2010 09:05 PM

Excellent start man.. now we just gotta get you off water and onto something a bit more extreme :)

Sniff sniff is that CO2 I smell in your general direction??? hee hee

Splave 04-02-2010 02:45 AM

Guys do you think that the e762 is just a better board for these GT's? Rom and I where talking about it, all the extra QPI signal, PCIE signal and other values like the p55 classy make a big difference? I find it hard to believe that there is a 500mhz difference in the same batch between rom and my chips. Also maybe higher CBB?

I was wondering the same. Just even comparing my 759 to yur guys 760, 762 CBB an running at -135+. My board shuts off at -115 an the 960 CBB is -40??? Thats just f___kd imop. I want to upgrade but only thing decent is the 4 way an realy its aging. Would I be stupid to get a 4 way with these new boards about to come out?

Hondacity 04-02-2010 04:58 AM

i'd wait for the gigabyte ud9 and the asus r3e

the asus r3e has some efficiency numbers that make the classy look bad ...its weird...

Splave 04-02-2010 05:16 AM

until evga comes out with another board ;)

I couldnt be happier with this e762, its covered in like an inch of dust and I man handle her and she just asks for more

thebanik 04-02-2010 05:25 AM

Got a Q4EG, :(, ES sample for testing but no board other than MSI Pro-E for another 2 weeks at the least....I am gonna put up a WTB 5870 thread as well, lets see how things turn out in these coming weeks......
