Here is a little something I threw together for Cecil.
This will be my last rack until I get settled in the new spread ..... After that if you draw it I will build it and ship it if anyone has an intrest in these types of racks 3/4" MDF with 3/8" ready rod construction .... the pics shown equal $ 52.00 worth of materail cost unpainted .... Labor is free for Alliance members shipping and materaial cost this oarticular rack will accomidte the Swifttech tri rad on the MB level and will have a ton of room underneat for harware drivs and so forth next to the board will be the pump and the top level is to accomidate a res Hope it works out for C ........... Sub zero configs include a motherboard tray with 1/2" elastmeteric insulation |
Looks really good Witchdoctor!! I see you are nifty with stuff like this.
|
Yea, I like it as well! :good:
|
Dude, you should sell these bad boys as DocTech lol. Looks really good :)
|
Looking good mate!
|
looks nice :leghump:
|
DocTech. ??? ................ LOL
I just do it for something to do ... since my rig is down I need some shit to do ..... LOL So I thought I would start building these things .... Nothing like a macheined rack .... LOL .... I am lucky if the holes line up ...... LOL |
dude... that is for sure sick dude... i love that design
|
Cant wait for it to get here so I can get my loop going.
Trying to decide if I want to paint it or not, I have some primer and gloss black paint, and some clear coat. hmm |
is it just for benching ? Cecil
if it is i wouldnt |

but i would paint the top one with OCA something for the money shots ;) |
looks great witchy. Like the threaded rod legs. If you go 3 legs across (6 total) you could turn the motherboard tray into 3 piece of either strap or box tube which would really reduce weight as well as leaving hte bottom of the board open for insulation or airflow :)
|
Thanks bro ...
I will have to give that a go ... I think I know what your saying .. Throw it down on a peice of paper if you could and post it Sort of like bulid three bridges of aluminum box channel to carry the board ??? |

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9526/photo002lh2.jpg http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4694/photo001yt9.jpg only pictures I could find of it As you can see I did not go all the way back.. because I was raising it to fit ODD/FDD under neath the mobo and needed wiremanagement space... Idea is sound though with a stiff enough piece... I will try and draw something up and maybe have you build be one too :) |
So this would be for an air or water system as the bottom of the board would be exsposed ???
Looks like it would be viable using 3/4" aluminum box channel but that shit is exspensive 11 bucks for 4' Three rail design lined up with the board hole and I could hold them in on an aluminum carrage .... it would be light as hell ..... using 1/2" plywood on the bottom for HDD's, ROm and PS would not add hardly anything either ..... could even get some 3/16 aluminum sheet stack for the botton and take wood out of the equasion ..... you may have to ground this beast though as it would light you up if something ios touching ...... :taunt: |
Got it today (who ever heard of UPS ground making it overnight?)
Painting now. I suck at painting, but its coming along ok. Doing 2-3 coats grey primer, 2-3 coats gloss black, and maybe a clear coat or two. Got some gloss white for the "OCA" stencil I made. |
post some pics see how its coming along ;)
|
|
i never done ups over night cost to much lol
so when is it going to be benched on ? do you do more water cooling the ln2 ? |
Quote:
Hope to have my loop up before the weekend. I dont do LN2. I have a pot for DICE, but havent gotten to it yet. Not sure if I will cause I have an AC apart I can use to chill the water. |
I do UPS ground with newegg all the time, 90% of the time its overnight :)
(Because newegg's warehouse is close) |

but now they charge sh on almost everything now |
Hey C looks good
How did the panels ship .. any dammage ? Please make sure the rad holes line up before you throw any more coats on Just in case they need adjusted .... Kinda done on a wing and a prayer not having the actual unit there. I usally make card board templates of that many fixed holes due to having to free hand everything as I do not have a drill press and proper machienery the two holes that were added from the OP are for the push pull fan wires and the notch in the front is to accomidaste the tubes according the the diagram Best of luck hope you like it ...... |

i was thing of moving my rack to the garage and using the ice box for the gpu loop but i dont think i have long enough tubes to run it but its a mess in there wife doesnt know what the dumpster is for |

I screwed up with the OCA stencil, the paper moved and smeered the white everywhere. Had to go through more black to cover it up, so Im only going to primer the bottom piece. |
Subscribed man, looking good so far :toast:
|
Witch, I have 3 extra nuts, but missing a washer. Is there suppost to be extra nuts (I can pick up the washer at the hardware store)?
|
|
:toast: That looks freakin' great!!!!!!
|
Looks good Cecil!!
|
you did a good job
|
The O is a little messed up, and there is a hair stuck in the paint on it lol. Other then that, Im happy with it.
|
On the bottom there should be no washers used so the feet stick past a hair further
on the end up rights there should be nuts and washers locking it down. I know they were not on in the pics but that was because I was just tryiong tio give you and idea Every deck should be locked in place on both sides and the underneath tof the bottom does not get washers the rods shopuld be flush with the nuts on the under carrage and the space for the first deck should be measured to fit a power supply upright and tighteened down til it is snug .... I personally use the little 3/8" round clear rubber dots at Home Depot in the feet section on the PS so it does not scratch the paint if the 1 1/4" screws did not get tight grad 6 1 5/8" screws to replace then all you should need is the rad mounting screws & the top deck is on upside down ............. LOL Looks great BTW.................:clapping: |
Quote:
Thanks again  |
You should have nuts in washers on the top of the second deck bro .....
it is just laying there and those nuts will not tighten .... It will give the entire rack more stability .......... |
Quote:
Ill fix it though. |
inshort bro all decks where rods penetrate should have an nut and washer on both sides of the wood except the the underneath of the bottom deck just gets a nut on it but the top side does get the washer as well
just helps the feet out a bit and gives you a bit more clearance lowering the chances of scratinging the table underneath Can't wait to see it .... hardware on it yet .... and loop praying the rad acomidations work ??? Good way to dress it up ios 3/8" cap nuts on the six riser tops. I didn't get them to save you a few bucks ... |
Nice work cecil!
can't wait to get mine setup at the new diggs. Not sure what color I'll paint it, but it'll be swanktastic. |
Dont have the loop yet, but added in some hardware that I had to test out.
The rad holes mostly match up, but I cant get it flush against the wood. Also, there isnt enough room for the tubing (the notch was about 1/4 short) so I had to mount it facing away from the board. Not a big deal though. http://s864.photobucket.com/albums/a...Custom%20Rack/ |
