A-hole flames out of work system builders on Craigslist
This guy is a jerk. Not everyone knows or cares to know how to build systems.
Things are easier, but to some it's like learning a new language... Quote:

I'd make that d-bags head spin in 20 seconds.

I know, right? What a jackass. If it were so easy, then Dell/Alienware, ibuypower, and the like wouldn't be in business.
The guys selling gamers on the bay and the list are usually struggling to feed their families, and this guy sticks his stink sauce in their soup. |
oh man..ebay and clist are treasure islands :)

I can't believe people these days. What's the world coming to. Everybody buys food from a store instead of hunting and growing their own. Everybody buys clothes on the internet instead of making their own. People pay other people to fix their cars, mow their lawns, teach their kids.
Now you tell me that we even have people that build computers for other people? And charge an astronomical 20% for the service? Shoot, they should reasearch it, order and assemble components, deal with the phone calls, troubleshooting, and RMA's for a mere 5%. Fat cat leeches. |

Whoever wrote that is obviously an a$$hole, mostly because most people simply don't have the motivation or KNOWLEDGE to build a PC. And the PC they buy at the store consist of underpowered obsolete hardware that will handle little more than internet surfing or MSoffice.
Anyone who built PCs back in the days before plug and play, however, can read between the lines and there he/she does have a point. A moot point considering it's 30 years in the past, but a point non the less. In the old days, everything that plug and play does for you had to be done manually using switches and jumpers. It could take anywhere from a couple hours to an entire day to get everything in sync and the pc booted and running. I have one of the original DOS based ASUS plug and play mobos somewhere in my garage with a 386 sitting in it, gotta find it and see if it's worth any bointange LOL Truth is the VAST MAJORITY of the public would not have a clue how to build a gaming machine, so they pay twice as much for half the power at the local Micro Center.. sad but true. Whoever wrote that missive on Clist is still and a$$hole though :D |
pic of the guy that posted this
http://a474.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...9218346ce1.jpg seriously though, all I have to say is it takes 2 seconds to bend a mobo pin ;) So when a layman builds a comp turns it on and it doesnt work because of a DOA part how do they test it? |
This is why I charge a percentage of the component cost when I do side builds. Cheaper rigs cost way less, but the more intricate expensive builds I get enough to cover my ass if I fuck it up.
|
I had a website doing builds for a year while I was 17 lol my bro designed it and I would do the builds. I used to charge components cost plus $100 was a sweet deal but ran out of time to hang with friends and do both so I shut it down. People thought it was great!

When I do build though my shop, there are tons of things to consider.
parts cost, and rma on any warrantied parts. quote cost. Taking the time to custom build the pc per customer's wishes. labor cost, how much is my time worth? bench time... Taking away from diagnosing on the bench. 1 custom build takes up the space of 3 towers running diagnostics easily. Then, you are practically married to that person. Every virus, pop up, and software incompatibility is YOUR fault. This adds labor to the build almost every time because kissing ass makes more money than not. Some of the builds I find on clist are actually only on a 5 - 10% markup from parts cost. That is pretty low considering. Dude's an asshat. :Hi: |

LOL, that would work, but that's what my primary business is in... tech work. Grinding out computer AIDS on a daily basis.
High end builds are too niche market to sustain a business in Kentucky. The real money is in working on run of the mill crap. |
Hey Face, I deleted system32 but now when I reboot I can't get back into windows, u better fix this shit mang! :Dizzy:
