Are you suggesting the thread is inappropriate or am I reading this the wrong way?

Splave 06-24-2010 04:09 PM

No I just dont know what the deal is, hes trying to start a cooling business but needs more capital?

Gunslinger 06-24-2010 04:15 PM

The concept of the business is good, the hitch is that person is not to be trusted, ever.

Thanks Chuch....
There are some who dislike that flavor, but who cares what a commie thinks anyhow.

That is exactly what he is trying to do. Plus dont forget the fact that he is not a builder so he will need to find some one to build all these units.

He tried this with me long ago and wanted something like $5k to be a partner, then I would be the west coast builder, plus a ton of other things we left up to me. I never never built a unit :)

Back then when he proposed a business plan to investers etc he estimated his company would sell ~100 units a month.

Of course I did not do this.

Don is famous for shipping things that never shipped and then getting renbursed for lost goods. In fact the only Magasuck unit that was ever made was not built by him, but NOL, it was purschased by several people, damaged, lost etc and in the end I think he was paid something like 3x's for that one unit, which does not work now or has worse performance than any phase unit out there.

Buckeye 06-25-2010 01:38 PM

Catch the last note on that.

Editor's note: This interview took place before IT trib launched and is likely out-of-date. We will try to re-connect with Don and see where Magnaphase is in terms of its roadmap and see if we can get some pictures to publish.

I think I might know a few people who can fill that editor in on whats happened sense that was writen :)

Hello everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Chris Barton, Editor of IT trib [Kal-El has verified my identity]. I would like to clear some things up regarding the Philly_Boy/Magnaphase interview as well as ask for clarification and perspective from your experiences.

I will explain my connection to Philly_Boy: In late winter / early spring of 2009 I was researching the possibilities of adding a small PC integration arm to my former start up. Philly_Boy was recommended as a system builder by an Admin friend of mine at XS Forums, prior to this I had never heard of Philly_Boy. Philly_Boy and I spoke over the phone and Philly_Boy over the next several weeks sent e-mails with suggestions for marketing the nascent PC integration arm which I found financially unfeasible. In the end, I deemed standing up a PC integration business unit far too risky, so I never actually hired Philly_Boy, or anyone else, in that capacity.

During the course of our correspondence, Philly_Boy mentioned he had an idea for an extreme cooling company, and from his words I thought I understood he was a phase change builder. In January or early February of 2010, I caught up with Philly_Boy on Windows Live Messenger and from that conversation the story in question developed.

My understanding at the time was that Magnaphase had not yet opened its doors for business. From the contents of this thread, it appears that Philly_Boy/Magnaphase has engaged in shady business practices, which I have been unaware of. I am looking to do an updated piece on Magnaphase Cooling, LLC and if you wish to clarify what has transpired, please PM me or email me. My contact information can be found here. Please not that I will confront Philly_Boy [if he accepts an interview] with any information so as to be as fair and objective as possible.

It is my goal to make myself as accessible as possible to the IT and overclocking community, so please, if you or anyone has a question, comment or concern feel free to contact me. Plus, this looks like a pretty great forum and belated congratulations on becoming the number 1 team in the USA!

Welcome to OCA man. You actually have yourself a very nice looking site yourself. Gunslinger and Buckeye are the two main people you need to contact for your update. I'm sure they will be very glad to share their story and back it up with facts.
