I'm looking at picking up another beast psu. As of now, I have a 1200w Zues and its been a keeper thru the thick of it. I'm eyeballing the newer Zeus ZM1200M 1200w version at the egg for about $384 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256038

Are you talking about THIS one? I have heard and read great things about Enermax PSU's. You might look into those. I don't know if they have single rails or if you are specifically looking for a single rail or if you are interested in a multi-rail. I assume you are looking the single rail. Plus the Enermax's have a 20% off promo code at the egg.

I would tell you to get the PC Power & Cooling like mine but it went back up to $500 after I paid $400 for mine.

Stick with the PC P&C, there are a few very good reasons they cost more and IIRC you already know all of them!

I have to agree. Once you get into that kind of money what does a little more for the best mean to ya? The silverstones are nice, but I would just go all out.

I guess you're right. Johnny Guru gave that Zues Modular uber high praises and put it in the same category with PC&C but he notoriously hates single rail designs too :cool:

Nope. PC&C are all out against modular PSU's.

LOL.....Then i'm completely against their $500 price tag.

The reason they are against modular PSU's is because you create two things with each additional connection within a rail: resistance and potential for failure, ask Supes as he thought his PSU crapped out once before but was only a corroded modular connection.

I guess your right on that and for a tech station I guess it really doesn't matter... But $500 for a PSU is kinda hard to swallow if you WC parts to buy LOL. I mean I have a Corsair HX1000 that has been rock solid and it was under $300. I do wish they would put out a 1200w or higher though and it probably would cost a bit more but the Zues is still under $400.

One other thing on the PC P&C PSU's is that they are rated for rms wattage on the box for their minimum life expectancy where most PSU's are rated for their peak output ( not sustainable).

I still may go with one, I know they are very good PSU's.... Just gotta talk myself into it LOL!

I 'm gonna save some scripts for another ride and pick up the cheaper, tried and true Silverstone Zeus 1200M until I get my pay day.

What's wrong with the one you have now? FWIW I highly doubt that you need anything close to that much power, I could bench my 4870X2's @ 872/990 all I liked with my quad at it's meager 4.2ghz running my entire system including cooling using a PC P&C 860w.

It wasn't until I got into bigger resolution (1920x1200) with high AA and AF that I started having power problems, I added a TT 650w booster to run the primary circuits on my cards and solved my power issues.

With you using externally powered cooling (slush system) and benching on DICE until you get off your olive colored ass and get setup with Ln2, I really think that 860w would suit your needs admirably. It would save you a few clams (turtle shells or coconuts) or w/e you people use for trade :P:rofl:rofl:rofl

I'm not 100% positive but I think Tagan uses a crappy OEM. Go to Johnny Guru's site cause I think he has a review of that power supply.

The new Enermax's are supposed to be sweet and stable. It isn't single railed though. the 1250w is like $339 and has six 12v rails @ 30A


Something else to keep in mind is true power draw. If you are gonna game with the rig at high res, the vid cards will consume much more power. If it's just for benching you'll use less. Some bencher from Europe had a Kilo-Watt meter on his ln2 cooled i7, 2x4870x2, and other goodies. He said he saw 980-ish watts being pulled from the wall during vantage. Now multiply that by the efficiency of the PSU you have and bingo!! There is your power usage of that rig.

Did he mention what speed the i7 was at and how much vcore by chance?

If I remember correctly he was around 4.8-ghz with 1.6-ish vcore and the 4870x2's were volt modded and had high clocks.
