so last Wednesday i received a pot from Neuromancer

when i open the box i thought i was so happy and laughing so much i thought i was gonna pass out or die what ever it works...


i was talking to Neuromancer last night and just got to talking and all... and he told me that there is like places sales DICE and stuff like that so i went to Korger this morning and got like 14 something LBs of DICE lol it i think it was 2 for price of 1 or something.. cuz 7LB was $6.96 and the ones i got was like a little more than 14LBs and it was about that too...:confused3:

i remember you guys was telling me how i need to do things to the board before taking it subzero..

please do remember this is like my practice bench for me, this is the VERY first time for me to use a REAL pot :laughing:as some of you remembered that i was using a Thermaltake Blue Orb as a pot back in that winter... (so... Mr. Superman told me i need to practice on the pot and have some ideas to some of those "how to" for everything :blush:)

did you use acetone too or just DI? doesnt look like its bubbling or anything is why I ask.
Also you need more than just painters tape. The air pockets under the tape will condense to liquid. Grab some eraser from the art store :)

you need a catalyst to start the reaction! pure grain alcohol or acetone need to be used to get the good temps. Thats why you werent at -60s :) You should be violently bubbling inside the pot.

acetone = nail polish remover.... ask the guys at the supermarket its easily available

Go to a Home dept or paint supply store and buy a quart of Acetone. Staples has kneadable eraser if you have one nearby.

i'll just use some of that medical 100% stuff would that be ok?

and also about the kneadable eraser i think i monna get some of that off ebay or something =)

That pot does have a pretty wild temp swing on quad cores.

Acetone = #1
99% Isopropyl Alcohol = #2


99% gelled up on me in that pot. Get acetone it is cheap and just make sure the windows are open when you bench.

Wrap a paper towel around the top of the pot (that insulation will sweat), and get a paper cup, cut the bottom out and stick it on top of the pot to prevent splashing :) I was using styrofoam cups when I was using alcohol. that WILL NOT WORK with Acetone.

I tried making a funnel out of a piece of paper for the top... it did not work well enough IMHO. an 8-12oz cup should fit on it perfectly.

Don't piss off your parents with the smell going thru-out the house bro, last thing I need is an overclocker down due to ass kicking by parents. Acetone has a strong odar that travels FAR and last for a bit.

Go with the highest % alcohol you can find off the shelf near the rubbing alcohol at Longs or something. Crush the dice, fill the pot about half way, drip some alchohol into the pot until you figure its about 2-3 mm deep in there, add alcohol every so often during the session.

Alcohol will get in the air but it dissapates much faster and isnt toxic like Acetone is once airborn.

^ Good advice. You want lots of ventilation if using acetone.

will everclear work? it's like 90~100% alcohol and it's drinkable =) or is that bad for the pot... i know Captain Morgan is prob not the best to put in it :D

hey kiki... for DIce... acetone works the absolute best. You can get it at home depot or lowes (easy reference). Make sure to stirr the pot every so often for best temps...

My best acetone/DIce ratio... roughly 3/4 to 1" acetone in the pot, the 1/4 cup powdered dice to begin with... you will need to add more acetone and dice (dice per scoop) as things get colder. you will also have to add dice more often like that, roughly a scoop or 2 every 20-30 sec. during a run.

Dice offers a huge swing, but if you can figure out the timing, you can easily compete with the ln2 guys ;)

!!! make sure you cover any plastics with painters tape, as the acetone will eat at the plastics as it "sprays" out. it is also not good for the pcb unchecked, so to compensate, you may want to make a "flap" out of paper towels to cover the top of the pot when not pouring so the splatter is contained.

edit: My next sub zero run on the 970 will be a dice run.. I will live stream it to show you what I mean by the ratios... the gen. message is "less is more." it means more scooping, but better temps/control. I'll update the livestream thread when I'm ready. :)

btw i been home for about half hr now and yep i fallowed FACE's method and i am at 78~80C at all time running around 3.7GHz on a 478 pentium 4 3.0e

How did it go?

it was really good, it was very stable and nice, Mr.Scott told me this board isn't really much of an overclocker so i am just using it to practice Dice and LN2 with :thumbsup:
it's a socket 478 with pci-e 16x and DDR2 667/ 800 (OC)

it was at 3.7ish at all time -72~80 after hrs of running :thumbsup:
i had like 14lb of Dice so i used about 2lb the first day then yesterday i used like off that was left over :D ran about few hrs.. i got home at 3 starting doing my homework at 7 so 4hrs of benching :laughing: it was really fun!

just realized i burned the living shit outta my knee with all that little dry ice on the ground
i was just in class today and my part of my knee just don't feel right so after class i went to the bathroom and left up my pants and a tone of those purple dots are on my knee
